How do I protect my privacy on Dreamwidth? (Part 1)

This guide explains how to ensure your privacy and keep your journal as secure as possible.

This page explains the easiest way to be as private as possible, the second page explains what it means when you choose to post content at the Public security level, and the third page lists the steps you can take to keep your account as secure as possible.

We recommend you read at least pages 2 and 3 to get an understanding of how security works on Dreamwidth and read this page if you'd like to be as private as possible.

What's the easiest way to be as private as possible?

Take the following steps:

• Go to the Privacy section of the Manage Settings page and select exclusion from search engines for your journal and a minimum security level for your entries of Access List or Private.


• Remove all of your interests.


• Remove any userpics that could identify you.


• Log out and view your profile and your journal; make sure no information that you want hidden is visible. Please see the "What does my profile contain? Who can see the information on it?" FAQ for information on what you can and can't hide on your profile page.

While it isn't possible to make your journal completely invisible, taking these steps will get it as close as possible.
