How to embed a Mastodon verification link?

Hello,
I would like to use my Dreamwidth page to post a verification link to my Mastodon page. Mastodon is an open-source microblogging platform similar to Twitter. Their verification process is simply to include a link to one's feed with an extra property on the page one wants to use for verification.
In my case, the link code looks like so: <a rel="me" href="https://indieauthors.social/@saxbrightwell">Mastodon</a>
I have tried multiple times embedding this link within the text bodies of posts, but it didn't work. I have a feeling the link being in that location stops the rel="me" property from working. I can't include the rel="me" property in any of the link fields available to me using the basic interface. I even tried linking from my profile (and changing the link on my Mastodon to my profile page specifically) but that also failed.
I was wondering if there's a simple way to add it as a link to the area of my page at the top, just under my username, alongside "Recent Entries," "Archive," "Reading," "Tags," "Memories," and "Profile"?
Diagnostics: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:127.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/127.0
