Tags in a community -- cannot go back more than skip 480

Hi there! I've noticed that there is a limit on how far you can go back in entries by tag. So if you have a community with several thousand posts tagged 'fic', you can go to "?tag=fic&skip=480" in the comm, but as soon as you go to "?tag=fic&skip=500" or further back, it doesn't seem to load anything.
Is this deliberate? I can't find anything about it in the faqs or in post limits or anything, and it makes it harder to use tags for sorting (for example, tagging a long term rp with your long term character). Thanks, let me know -- or if there are any workarounds!
