Summary:
Issues with cut text selection
Original Request:
Hi!
I have an issue with the cut tool.
When using rich text, if my selection included texts of different sizes, different alignementetc... it will not be selected inside the cut tag.
If I try to do it directly in HTML, it doesn't work either and the cut tag will be applied directly to only the first text in the same format/alignement etc...
I've tried it on LJ imported entries, which were imported fine, and as soon as I tried to edit them, the cut texts went all messed up.
I tried it on entries written directly in Dreamwidth and it never works. Only text of the same size, same alignement can be inside the same cut. This makes impossible to write my entries correctly.
Diagnostics: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/57.0.2987.133 Safari/537.36

I just tried on a tiny part of text on a new entry, it doesn't work if I try to select anything other than regular text. It's messed up if I select bullet lists, images etc...
I tried to make the cut on a regular text selection first, THEN formatting my text afterwards, and it messes it up too.

Dear winkychan,
Could you link us to one or more public entries when the cut tags don't work as you expected them to? Maybe one you've made with the Rich Text editor and one you've made with the HTML one?
Best,
90d

You can see here the cut appearance of this entry:
https://winkychan.dreamwidth.org/2017/03/17/
The full entry is here:
https://winkychan.dreamwidth.org/97388.html
I selected all the text to be inside a cut in Rich text. What it did was only putting the bold underlined centered title under the cut, and besides, it messed up the following text by aligning it to center (it was aligned to the left before applying the cut).
Thank you.

Ok I've done some testing around in HTML, this bug happens as soon as the <div style=> tag appears.
I tested it with this entry: https://winkychan.dreamwidth.org/2017/02/18/
The cut worked fine as long as I wrote in HTML using only <center> tags, but if I go back and edit it in rich text with the alignement tool, it messes it up. The </cut> closing tag will be moved before the first <br /> tag.

Hi there!
Unfortunately, the rich text editor in our original update page is very old and doesn't function properly in many modern browsers, especially when you switch back and forth between the rich text and HTML editors. We're working on implementing a newer version, but it isn't available yet.
In the meantime, if you want to add cuts to your entry, you can do it in HTML mode, by finding the place where you want the cut to start and typing:
<cut>
Or, if you want it to have any text other than "read more":
<cut text="What you want the cut to say">
I'm sorry about the inconvenience!
Best,
Denise
