Dear mizundahstood,

Welcome to Dreamwidth! I'm sorry to say there isn't a book on this topic but I will suggest to our documentation team the creation of a 'Getting Started' FAQ. Thanks for pointing it out!

In the meantime, I can suggest a few links which should help you get started (these can all be found in our FAQs but let's cut to the point):

-- http://www.dreamwidth.org/update is where you can post your writing to your personal journal. Note that if you don't want your writing to be public, you should change the 'Show this entry to' option to anything but 'everyone'.

-- http://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/search is where you can find personal journals and communities interested in the fandoms you like. Communities are journals where several people can post (a bit like forums) so they're good places to make new acquaintances and share your writing with a wider audience. Search results can be filtered to 'users only' or 'communities only'. Communities usually have a description so you can know if they're about a specific fandom or not, a place to discuss the show, post fanfiction, graphics, etc.

-- To join a community, click on its name and you should see a join community icon or link somewhere (see http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=17 for a more complete explanation or what to do if you don't see the link).

As for an app, I'm afraid there isn't one yet. This is something we'd like to have but it requires lots of time which our very small team doesn't have. We've had several people expressing an interest in developing one so we hope this will happen one day.

I hope I've answered all your questions and clarified some things for you but let us know if you need further help or some things were unclear.

Regards,
90d
