Summary:
New comments to already imported entries
Original Request:
Is there any way to have potential new comments to already imported entries show up on Dreamwidth, as well? For example, if I have an entry from last month that someone on LiveJournal leaves a new comment on over there, the comment will not automatically appear on the Dreamwidth version of the same entry. So, is there anything I can do without having to import all entries ALL over again, therefore having double the amount of entries?

Dear ladylivin,

You are correct in assuming that the only course of action is to import all the entries again. However, the importer will not duplicate entries.

Nothing will duplicate, and the comments will appear on the proper, already imported entries.
If you have deleted any entries or comments, they will be re-imported and show up again.

Best,

But you see, I manually imported all the entries myself when the tool wasn't working for me. And whenever I've selected "import entries" again, it causes my journal to have an identical duplicate side-by-side. I'm afraid the same thing will happen if I do it again. I want to avoid that but still match the comments.

There is an option to import comments, yes, but it says "along with entries." I guess what I'm looking for is comments only.

Hello Miss James,

We are working on making it possible to just import comments to entries you've previously imported. However, because you copied your entries in manually, the importer will not be able to tie your comments to the correct entries.

The best course of action would be to delete the entries you've manually imported and use the importer to import both entries and comments. What was the error you were getting with the importer previously?

Best,
chemicallace

I believe it was the day I signed up, 5/1, and it was still waiting in queue after 7 hours had passed. Thing is, that's what I decided to manually import them. Then I come to find, hours later, that it's finished and that's when I discovered the duplicates. :)

Dear ladylivin,

The importer keeps track of which of your entries it imported and will not be able to relate entries you manually posted with the entries and comments on LiveJournal. The only way to get your comments imported would be to delete all the imported entries from Dreamwidth and run the importer again.

After this, all you will have to do to pick up new comments is re-run the import -- no need to delete all entries after this single time. Please note, the import queue can be very long at times, taking up to 36 hours to import your entries. If the import fails for some reason it will notify you, so do not worry that the import has failed if it takes a while to get a response.

Best,
exor674
