Getting Started: Decorate Your Journal

Pick a Style

The Select Style page shows all our pre-made styles, which can be customized further (especially colors) once you pick one. Browse by featured styles, base styles, or see all at once.

When you find one you like, hit "Apply Theme" to choose it. Then, if you want to tweak it until it's perfect, go to Customize Style.

Upload Icons

Icons are 100x100 pixel images that you can use as avatars throughout the site. You aren't limited to just one; you can have many.

Search for icons of your own, or find an icon community. When you find the perfect icons, upload them at Upload Icons.

Edit Your Profile

Unlike other sites, where your profile is the only way people can learn about you, on Dreamwidth it's a place for people to get an overview of who you are before they get to know you through your journal. Fill out your profile! Include things you're interested in, a brief biography, and anything else you'd like for people to know, and it'll serve as your introduction to others as you start to explore.
