I see trouble on the way.

Characters: Everyone! Yes, you too!
Summary: Mandy's Masquerade hosts a fantastic Halloween party with a costume contest, some very special cocktails, and a few other surprises.
Date(s): Late in the month of October.

Mandy's is looking a bit festive this evening. Arrayed with spiderwebs, pumpkins, and other ghoulish decorations, the interior resembles a spooky haunted house. Spooky, not scary! Everyone's invited to stop by and celebrate All Hallow's Eve with spirited drinks, excellent company, and a lot of that Magnus flair.

You can loosen up on the dance floor to Monster Mash, Thriller, Dead Man's Party, or maybe something from this list. The spooky sky's the limit! Visit the bar for one of several special drinks you won't soon forget. You can also sample some tasty and holiday-appropriate baked goods, courtesy of the other Mr. Lightwood-Bane. Finally, stop by the table with the MAGIC 8 BALL to learn a little more about your fellow partygoers.

Siren Song
If you're a little tone-deaf, don't fret. This drink will turn you into a master at serenading. It won't actually give you the ability to influence anyone via magical means, but maybe if your song choice is apt, you'll woo someone either way!

Firework!
A drink that comes with a portable fireworks show hovering over its surface. Drinking it will give you the sensation of ingesting liquid pop-rocks.

Blacklight
Does what it says on the tin and makes the drinker glow under a black light. It's also kind of sour.

Frankenstein's Monster
This drink is quite shocking. Not dangerously so, but when you drink it, you'll have the impression of getting a tingling little jolt of electricity down your spine. It's aliiiiive.

To Be or Not To Be (A Daemon)
Drink this and you will find you've been magically swapped with your daemon. It only lasts ten minutes, but hey! You'll get to see how the other half lives. A note: you won't inherit one another's abilities!

Congratulations to our costume contest winners!

In first place for individual costumes...

Rafa wins for his devilish costume and he'll be awarded 2 potions: the first of which will up his luck stat, granting him good fortune in an endeavor (it says "Deal with the Devil" on the bottle) and the second will up his persuasion stat, helping him to be more successful in an argument (it says "The Devil's Advocate" on the bottle).

In second place for individual costumes...

Nico plunders the second place spot and will be given a treasure chest full of chocolates that are rum flavored. Careful, they pack a bit of a punch and when consumed, they'll make whoever eats them feel especially happy. No sad drunks here!

In third place for individual costumes...

Zeke and his amazingly sunny costume are in third and he wins a sunflower plant that will never cease to bloom and seems to have a bit of a glow about it. Plus, perpetual supply of sunflower seeds?

In first place for couples costumes...

Magnus and Alec came first for their portrayal of... each other... and they win a pair of seemingly mundane t-shirts that say "Bennet" and "Darcy" on them. What's that about?

In second place for couples costumes...

Vex and Kenzi delighted with their take on the Addams' family patriarch and matriarch and won second place. As a prize, Kenzi will be given a shampoo and conditioner set that seems pretty innocuous until you check out the writing on the bottles: 'Have YOU ever wanted hair like Cousin Itt? Are you ever in luck!' Just a small amount will make her locks lustrous and smooth. Vex will be given a very lifelike and animated hand in a box.

In third place for couples costumes...

Rose and Kaz were drop dead gorgeous in their mafia-inspired garb. As prizes, they will receive the following: for Rose, a pair of magical die that make music when thrown, and for Kaz, a set of playing cards that are intricately illustrated with astonishing art that seems to move. Watch out for the face cards, they get very opinionated about your playing. They both also receive a chip that can be relinquished to Magnus for a small magical favor.

A. Doin' the Monster Mash
[His own outfit wasn't chosen with the costume contest in mind, so he doesn't enter it. Instead, he focuses on simply socializing - and, since he as good as promised he would when he and Rose made up after the fair, he does it with an eye toward getting close to people, generating the intimacy this city seems to need as much as Eudio did, if not more.

So though he recognizes precisely zero of the songs, he throws himself into the dancing. He's a quick study, and light on his feet, so he at least manages to avoid stepping on any toes - or tripping himself or anyone in the vicinity.

And when someone catches his eye in between songs, or seems to be wallflowering, he'll approach with a smile and a] Care to dance?

B. Say, What's In This Drink?
[Social drinking being an even bigger part of Imperial culture than dancing, he spends a lot of time at the bar too. He remembers hearing about the famous "magic cocktails" at Pandemonium, though he rarely ventured to the club to try any himself. He's rectifying that now, though, sipping at a drink sparking with fireworks to start with then systematically working his way down the list.

When he takes his first sip of a Frankenstein's Monster, he jumps - then laughs at himself for doing so. Glancing at the person on the next barstool, he offers a sheepish smile and says] Cheers. Have you tried one of these yet?

C. Under Your Spell - closed, for hasitsthorns
[He's tried to keep his distance and not interfere with her date, and physically at least, he's managed. But he hasn't been able to keep his eyes off of her all night, and the more drinks he puts away the stronger the temptation becomes to cut in and smuggle her away to some dark corner. After the costume contest is finished, his resolve finally crumbles. After all, how could he stand by and just let her be unhappy?

So while her date is elsewhere, he slips his arms around her from behind and plants a kiss on her cheek.] If it were up to me [he murmurs, voice still thrumming with the effect of the Siren's Song he drank shortly before he came over] you would have won first prize. [Kiss, kiss, kiss, go his lips down the side of her neck as he talks.]

[ It wasn't that she didn't want to enjoy Vanyel's company. Quite the opposite, in fact. But she hadn't told Kaz yet about her... involvement with Vanyel and Farraige both. There hadn't been a reason to, honestly. She didn't try to kid herself into thinking there ever would be.

Okay, so. Maybe she hopes there will be. Hoping despite herself is what Rose does best though. Just like how she'd hoped to win this competition and instead fallen extremely short of that goal. Third place. Just the thought makes her face scrunch up in disatisfaction again. Not for the first time, she thinks she might as well have just lost. She's currently brooding over it again somewhere by herself when- ]

Is that so? [ she asks, question ending in a huffed laugh at the ticklish feeling of his lips against her skin. She doesn't even tense this time despite the surprise; it's a sign of how far she's come in comfort with intimacy such as this. A satisfied hum escapes her as she leans back into him just slightly, encouraging more of those gentle kisses. ]

What would have made me win?

[ Tell her she's pretty, boyfriend. She needs to hear it to cover up the sting of loss. And to Vex, no less. ]

[And he doesn't begrudge her that, truly - at least not most nights. On this one, when every glance at her tempted him to do exactly this? It was very, very difficult to resist the urge, or to care at all that doing so would disrupt her date.]

Simple, [he says, and nuzzles just below it.] None of the other contestants were so gorgeous I could scarce keep my eyes off them all night.

['Gorgeous,' because he's picked up that she dislikes 'beautiful,' even if he doesn't quite know why.]

[ She can't help the smile that curls her lips at the phrase 'scarce keep my eyes off them all night.' Sometimes, she forgets that he's from a time so different from her own. It's easy when they get on as well as they do. And while this is a reminder, it's- It's a good one, honestly. It's charming. It does all the right things for her in this moment. The musical lilt to his voice probably doesn't hurt matters either.

'Gorgeous' is also a much better adjective than beautiful. She breaks out of his hold, only for a second, so that she can turn around to face him instead. She's wearing heels so it's easier to bridge the distance to step up on her toes and kiss him. She doesn't even care if Kaz sees at this point anymore. He hands grip the front of his shirt, holding him close. ] I think I'm still winning as long as I have you, anyway.

[ What a sap. ]

[He didn't drink the Siren's Song with this in mind, exactly, but he's glad it seems to be doing something for her. The charm, of course, is entirely intentional.

Once she's turned, he wraps his arms around her again, kimono sleeves draping down to cover part of her silhouette - which he can't help but think is all to the good. He'd think she was lovely no matter what, but she looks absolutely stunning tonight, and now that he has her in his arms he isn't feeling inclined to share.

Humming in pleasure, he leans into that kiss while it lasts. And steals another one with a smile when she says that.] I could give you a prize this time around, if you'd like.

[Which, yes, is referencing his 'prize' for their privates round of 'two truths and a lie'.]

[ It isn't often that she's seen Vanyel be a bit possessive. There's something attractive though about him desiring her so. Rose knows he could have anyone he wanted here tonight and yet- And yet, it's her he wants more than any of them. It's her, she's his, and she's so happy to be that sometimes she doesn't know what to do about it. ]

Oh, [ she says, a mischevious glint now in her eyes. ] I would like a personal prize, I think. Something [ is said as her hands start to wander now, teasing the low dip of his kimino ] just for me from you, maybe?

I'm sure we can find a place appropriate for that.

[ Since she knows she's suggesting something completely inappropriate for everyone else's eyes. ]

[There are plenty of lovely people in fascinating costumes here, that much is true. Under other circumstances, he might try his luck with one or more of them - but he wasn't lying when he told Rose he hadn't been able to keep his eyes off her all night.

She always looks pretty, whatever she happens to be wearing, but there's something almost entrancing about Rose fully done-up like this.

He grins, equally mischievous.] Yes, I'm sure there must be somewhere around here better suited to our needs. Let's go find it, shall we?

[After stealing one more quick kiss from those so-red lips, he shifts his grip, wrapping an arm around her waist and heading toward the back of the room, looking for a route to the offices, or at the very least a convenient stock room or the like.]

[ She'll have to do herself up more, knowing it has this kind of effect. Or maybe it'd be nice to save it for more special occasions. Their anniversary, maybe? It occurs to her that that's growing rather close, actually... It hasn't felt like a year since they decided upon an actual relationship.

It actually didn't feel like they ever really decided so much as just... fell into it. But that's what made it so fun, so exciting. Just like this is, Vanyel whisking her away to some secluded spot so they could be alone.

They end up only having access to a storeroom, in the end. But it'll serve their purposes just fine, she thinks. Once the door closes, she's kissing him on his lips, his neck. It's possible she's leaving behind little red imprints of her lips on his skin, too, but the idea that he might wear them for the rest of the night and everyone will know what they'd gotten up to was kind of. Hot. It was really hot, actually. ]

[He won't object either way - but then, he never objects to anything she wears or doesn't wear. It isn't his place to, for one. For two... he'd think she was beautiful no matter what (though the word itself hasn't passed his lips since he learned she dislikes it).

Those kisses are returned with interest, and his hands wander, sliding that fur coat off her shoulders and sweeping over them. One hand trails down, cupping her breast through the fabric of her dress and lingerie, while the other slid around to her back in search of her zipper.]

As wonderful as you look with this on, [he breathes, just before his teeth graze the curve of her neck (she won't be the only leaving marks, apparently)] I think I'd rather have it off you. [He disentangles himself long enough to get that coat off her all the way, then closes the distance again even as he reaches around to unzip her dress.]

[ Just the little things, really, that make this work so well. He's so thoughtful of her, so content to let her have her small freedoms. Tiny as they might be, it definitely goes a long way in keeping Rose happy. And she is. Happy. A couple years ago, she might have said the exact opposite about her life. Things with Charlie were declining fast and she was trying to find a way out before it was too late.

It did end up being too late, unfortunately. Or maybe fortunately, honestly, because it led her to Eudio. To Vanyel. To nowhere else she'd rather be but with him. She gives a little shake of her shoulders to drop the fur coat and smiles at the hand that grabs onto her. It's a little harder to navigate everything in heels but they do certainly enhance the aesthetic in a way she can't deny. ]

That makes two of us, [ she agrees, sighing softly at those teeth pressing into skin, at the sound of the back of her dress being unzipped. It takes only a moment and another wiggle of her shoulders before it's rolling passed her hips and right off her. Underneath, is equally inky black and lacy lingerie with gaterbelts to hold up the hose she has on. It's

probably the sexiest thing she's ever worn. And she wasn't entirely thinking about that in case things went this way tonight... but it did definitely factor in to her costume choice. ]

[Tiny things, perhaps, but why shouldn't he do them when they're so easily within his power? It obviously makes her happy, and that's... all he can really ask for. So long as she's happy (and safe, of course) then so is he.

It would be harder not to be, now, as her coat falls away and so does her dress shortly afterward. He can't take his eyes off that lingerie, anymore than he could off the whole outfit earlier.] Gods... [He breathes, damn near reverent as his hands trail down over lace-covered curves, following the dress's progress.] Look at you.

[He tugs her close and kisses her hungrily, unable to help himself. They've nothing remotely like this lingerie in his world, so he never knew until Eudio how utterly enticing it could be - and it's made all the moreso by Rose being the one to wear it.

Even when the kiss breaks he doesn't really pull back, lips still brushing hers as he murmurs] I hardly know where to start.

[ Oh. Rose is probably the last person deserving of worship but she can't deny she enjoys the way his gaze makes her feels. It's something longing, desperate, and all for her. While she often has a hard time believing she's anyone worth desiring, Vanyel certainly makes it easier in moments like this to think there might be something to that after all. ]

All for you, [ she purrs, which is. Half-true. It's not like she was planning on getting anywhere with Kaz anytime soon but Janus was here. Zeke, too. Plenty of people available for her interest... but she found her way back to Vanyel, as she often did.
It's easy to understand why with the passionate way he kisses her, how entranced he is by her. ]
