Test Drive Meme 016
Welcome to the Test Drive Meme! Here is the place to see how your character might fit the setting, grab samples and have fun!
1. Post with your character, including their name and series in the subject. We’ve written out some prompts but feel free to make up your own, you have a whole train to play with!
2. Assume they've been around long enough for threads to jump right into the action.
3. Have lots of fun. Mandatory, mod-sanctioned fun.
Happy testing!
Silence in the Library
The library is a double carriage. Downstairs is brightly-coloured, with cover posters across the walls, tables and chairs in the strong colours of the team uniforms, and a wooden model train placed as though winding its way through the carriage with carriages of shelves in tow. The walls are shelving, and beanbags litter the floor. Upstairs is quieter, rows of nonfiction shelves with private desks at the end of each row; the sound up here is muffled.
You don't know who, you don't know why, but someone or something has had a bad power day. How do you know? Well, the fact that the characters of any book you read keep coming to life as tiny versions of themselves and running riot around the carriage... that might have been a clue.
You just wish you'd picked a different book before realising it.
An Apple a Day
Medical is another double carriage, though it boasts one of the few person-sized lifts on the train as well as stairs. On the bottom floor, two of the three rooms are examination rooms, with simple beds, equipment and first-aid capacity. The third is a surgical bay, albeit a simpler one than some passengers may anticipate. All three rooms have ICPs with instructions and manuals for all equipment and a number of medical procedures.
Upstairs, there are four private recovery rooms, with a medical bed and an accessible en-suite. It's possible to check a passenger into one of these rooms, at which point they cannot leave until discharged by the person who checked them in.
Which, unfortunately, you are entirely aware of. You've been here for three days, and you're climbing the walls. But that'll teach you to get injured in such a stupid way. Or so they hope.
Sprockets and Skysong
In which a train arrives among the smokestacks of Little Underpool with some unexpected visitors.
Little Underpool is a township on Void world #30630687444. Caught up in the middle of what appears to be a series of industrial revolutions, the world is in a state of constant, chaotic innovation. Currently, that means that there is a power struggle going on between the skywhaling megacorporation Scrimshaw Inc and the Zephyr Company, an airship manufacturer, over control of the skies above Underpool, and the rapidly diminishing population of skywhales, whose bones are used in most modern airships, and whose blood is a key fuel source for a great number of new devices and engines. The voidtreckers are, this mission, to rescue the whales, rather than any humanoids.Team One
Infiltrating Scrimshaw Inc, this team's job is to sabotage the tracking drones used to locate the whale pods, to allow the great beasts to migrate successfully away from Underpool. The offices of the corporation are in a series of spiralling brass and bone towers in the centre of the town, connected by exposed cable bridges that run to dizzying heights. Their clockwork guards are numerous, but often faulty, and highly vulnerable to tinkering.Team Two
This team's job is to hijack some of the Zephyr Company's airships, and use them to defend the whale pods closest to Underpool. Several pods contain whale calves, and cannot evacuate as fast as the larger bachelor groups. The airships are light, and handle well, but their oddly organic design can be rather unsettling. The primary weapons are harpoons and short-range bomb slings, both as deadly against other airships as they are against their original targets.Team Three
The final team's task is less direct - they must go among the populace of Underpool and spread unrest, redirecting the attention of the people towards the plight of their nonhuman neighbours in the sky, and the wrongdoings of their resident megacorporations. The people are not aware that the whales are an entirely sentient species, which appears to be a deliberate obfuscation by the town's council and sponsors. Your job is to change that.
Ken Ichijouji (& Wormmon) | Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna
This is nice...
[ Looking around in serene appreciation - Ichijouji Ken, age 19, whose Zen expression is somewhat offset by the presence of his unusual hat.
He meanders along the paths, taking in the ambiance, and sits on a bench to watch the water flow. From the look on his face, he could stay here for hours. ]
It's pretty, huh, Ken-chan.
That it is. [ Ken closes his eyes, takes a deep breath. Frowns a little. ] Though....
Though?
[ Standing, Ken looks around the artful display of flowing water. He identifies a spot and heads over. ]
Wouldn't the experience be enhanced by a shishi-odoshi?
[ An Apple A Day ]
Hey, are you the doctor?
[ Whoever's passing through the bottom floor of the medical carriage will suddenly find themselves with a giant green larva clinging to their leg. And looking up at them with big, teary eyes. ]
You are, right? Hurry! Come quick!!
[ Tug tug tug tug. IT'S AN EMERGENCY!!!! ]
[ Sprockets and Skysong - Team One ]
Sticky Net!
[ The guard in hot pursuit of a suspicious pair of interlopers trips over itself and falls, pinned in place by a, well, sticky net made of webbing. Wormmon looks up at Ken, who responds to these expectations with a sincere grin. ]
Good job, Wormmon. [ Ken's expression sets into determination. ] Let's move on quickly -
[ One of the clockwork guard's arms has just knifed its hand. Literally - the fingers latch together and form a blade.
It begins sawing away, though at an awkward position, at the net. ]
---Ah.
an apple a day
[But the weird little familiar was incredibly insistent, and it would be lying to say he didn't have some medical ability.]
...Okay, okay. [He gently nudged Wormmon off of his leg with the walking stick at his side.] I'll do what I can, let's go.
no subject
...It's this way.
[ He can't reach the button for the lift, so he crawls over to the stairs leading up to the second floor. Scrunches himself up -
Bounce. Up one stair. Scrunch -
Bounce.
This could take a while. ]

[. . .]
[Waver sighed, leaning over and holding out the hand not otherwise occupied with a cane.]
Shoulder, if you would? I presume time is a bit of the essence.
no subject
[ This man is SO NICE. Climbing onto Waver's arm, Wormmon skitters up it to find purchase on the proffered shoulder. He clings tightly and looks up the stairs.
Fast, they have to go fast....!! ]

Re: Ken Ichijouji (& Wormmon) | Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna
The words come from the pink-haired girl in pigtails, who, until now, had been tending to the various plants and flowers silently.
"Ah, that is... hello! I'm Hanasaki Tsubomi! Your suggestion... it's a good one!"
She hasn't noticed the unusual "hat" on his head yet.
no subject
"Is this your garden?" Ken asks, walking over. His curiosity and smile are sincere. He shouldn't plan renovations in someone else's space; that's a nuisance. But if she agrees, and her taste is this good...!
"Hello!" says his hat, raising a claw with complete disregard for the mood.
no subject
Tsubomi looked up, and stared at the creature that just waved at her.
"Your. Your pet talked."
Hypocritical on her end, but she didn't expect it to happen with other people.
no subject
Wormmon is having to correct people all over the test drive today. It's like nobody on this train is used to seeing amazing boys with bugs on their heads!
"I'm sorry if we startled you," Ken says, reaching up. Wormmon figures out what's going on and climbs onto an arm, clinging until Ken can get him settled in both arms instead, closer to where Tsubomi can get a better look at the partner-not-pet.
He won't hold Wormmon out, but the Digimon is here, if she were curious. "They're becoming more common in my world, so..."
And he likes it. He likes not having to hide Wormmon. He likes being with Wormmon.
He likes knowing how it feels to like something enough not to change your behavior for others.
no subject
A beat paused, before she started bowing her head in apology. "I'm sorry I called you a pet, Mr. Caterpillar!"

Garden Car
"Guilmon! Wait! Where are you going?"
"I smell a digimon!"
no subject
Wait, back up. ]
"Guilmon"?
[ Oh. That's why he knows the name Guilmon.
Wormmon screams and tries to fit down Ken's polo shirt. He's going to remember Takato and/or that it's his job to protect Ken-chan in a second and be extremely ashamed of himself, but
but TEETH are coming. ]
no subject
Sorry! Guilmon thought he smelled another digimon on the train.
no subject
Ah - about that...
[ He doesn't want to out his partner if Wormmon is going through Something, but at the same time, ah, if Guilmon has that good a nose....
he'll probably be attracted to the way Ken's shirt is, um, wriggling... ]

Garden
What's a shishi odoshi?
no subject
It's an ornament from my world. [ His country, precisely, but the explanation takes priority.
Ken tries to trace the general shape in the air with his hands. ] Water fills a bamboo pipe on a fulcrum. When it tips over and then back in place, it strikes a stone. Originally they were placed in gardens to scare away animals, but now they're enjoyed on their own merits.
The noise it makes when it swings back and forth....
[ He sighs. God, he loves anything that helps you chill. ]
It's so soothing.
Garden Car
[Her curiosity peaked at the sound of two voices, she looked over and found... a human and what kinda looked like a green shrimp. Tasty looking, but sentient beings were not on the menu.]
[She couldn't help overhear what they were saying and stifled a chuckle.] If this place has a shishi-odoshi, it should also have will also need to have a parasol and a nice bento.
no subject
Never mind that, she understands. Ken's face lights up. ]
A bento would be good....! Three layers seems ideal, I'd say. Any more and it would be too much to eat, any less and it'd be out of proportion with the car....
[ Wormmon, atop his head, nods along.
He has NO IDEA WHAT ANY OF THIS MEANS. ]
no subject
[The girl lights up even more. Oh--not only did he know the beauty of shishi-odoshi, she also knew how important of what was being served!]
Mmm! And I think a nice fruit tea would be best, too. Though I have been liking the modern fruit blends. Why not too long ago I had a strawberry banana smoothie with coconut milk and it was exquisite.
[She also notices Wormmon and gives him a polite wave.]
no subject
I can't say I have flavor preferences, but that would evoke a summery feeling.
[ Wormmon nods back. The nice - is she a Digimon? He is not sure! Not everyone who is not a human is a Digimon on the train! - lady has given him a clue. ]

to investigate at this point in time
And so he allows himself a break. The mysteries of the multiverse require a clear head to truly comprehend, and certainly the mysteries of this train are a microcosm of sorts; surely a few minutes' rest in this car is the best way to get there.]
[At least, that had been the plan. He was not expecting a hitchhiker.]
Well yes, I am a doctor, but-
[Generally, when someone is desperately seeking a doctor, they are not looking for the local astrophysicist.]
[But a cry for help is a cry for help, and as there seems to be nobody else in the vicinity, Siebren nods.]
Lead the way.
no subject
It's upstairs.
[ Upstairs means either lift or, well, stairs. Stairs...Hm. Lots of stairs. So.
If he bounces -
High enough -
Will he be able to hit the button for the lift -
With his claw? ]
Ouch!
[ The button lights up, having been pressed via forceful contact with....Wormmon's entire face. ]
no subject
Alright.
[He'd been thinking stairs himself, but evidently the critter is intent on the elevator, to the point of...personal damage. He extends a palm, and Wormmon will find himself floating easily in the air, as though gravity itself has taken a vacation, but only from him.]
[These powers do come in handy, on occasion.]
Perhaps you should ask for help in...high places. Otherwise, you may need the doctor yourself.
[Is that a joke? Well, he's trying. He enters the lift when it arrives, gently setting the critter on the floor of the lift as the door closes.]
no subject
[ Wormmon's legs skitter in the air, as if he thinks he's going to find anything to cling to there. But he doesn't seem to be in....danger.....and he's set down easily enough.
He looks up at Siebren, eyes wide. Did he do that? Wormmon didn't know humans could do that. ] Are you a magic doctor?
[ Going up. ]
