"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."
☄ LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on ) The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out. ☄ COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on ) The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit. ☄ LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on ) The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it. |
luke skywalker | ota-ish.
[Wearing a sleeveless shirt, it's easy to see the prosthetic hand that begins a little below his wrist. He holds it out, now, and smiles reassuringly.]
Ready to go?
[Please plot with me at least a little bit so I know where we're going and what we're doin beforehand, but I'm basically open to anything. My plotting comment is here if you'd like to peruse it, and you can also contact me at
no subject
I'm always ready.
[She retorts, smiling just a little as she glances up at him. If it were anyone else, she'd shove them back and make sure she leapt first. But since it is him, she moves forward and tugs him along with her, so they can leap at the same time.]

[The heat hits him like a wall, and Luke instantly knows where they are. He opens his mouth to apologize to Cassandra, and chokes on sand. Preemptively rubbing at his eyes, he stumbles to stand, not sure when he fell over.]
[After a moment, two, standing and squinting in the blinding heat and brightness, Luke looks up at the sky.] It's noon. We- we need to get out of the suns. [They're standing in the desert, surrounded by an expanse of orange sand on all sides, but Luke can see the familiar bulk of the Dowager Queen over a ridge not far off. Luke points at it to orient Cassandra.]
Good, we're near the city. [Again, he holds out his hand. Ready to go?]
no subject
Luke seems to know more about this place, though, which quickly tells her that this is his home. The heat is almost smothering to her, so she makes quick work of removing her hoodie and tying it around her waist. She does it as he's pointing over at something, and she squints to look up and over at it.]
Is this where you're from?
[She glances at his offered hand and doesn't hesitate too much in reaching over to take hold of it. There really isn't any actual need for it, but she finds that she likes the contact. There's a desire there to take the lead and drag him along with her, but he knows this place and not her, so she walks at his side, eyes still squinting as she looks at everything around them.]
How do you survive without taking off all your clothes? It's so hot.
[Complaining might be rude, but seriously. It's hot.]
no subject
I- No, m'gasha. Hey! [Luke attempts to shoo them away as politely as possible, whining a few more words in their tongue.] We're not dressed like natives, they- They think we're suckers.
[He is, honestly, a little insulted by the thought.]

fuck yeah family-outing time
All he can trust in right now--all he does--is in Luke's outstretched hand and the offer that comes with it. He would have to be blind in more than one sense to not understand how starkly contrasted this is to the man's usual hesitance whenever Anakin is involved, and any chance to work at that, any chance, is not one he's about to pass up.
He takes Luke's hand firmly and without hesitance.]
As you are.
[More or less, anyway. So why is his heart jumping into his throat as they do?]
no subject
[They jump.]
[Luke hadn't remembered how Bespin had a smell. Something about the gas refinery, he remembers hearing about that when he infiltrated the place. He opens his eyes to... orange mist.]
[How fitting.]
I didn't think I'd see this place again.
no subject
He opens his eyes, and it's bright, but not in the way he's used to with Tatooine's boring double suns overhead. It's softer and full of color, hued in much the same way he recalls a Coruscanti sunset from the balcony he'd finally started to call home. Inoffensive enough, as far as the alternatives go.
But it's a sharp pang in his side, a reminder that this isn't home. And in that, he's not sure if he should be grateful that there's seemingly nothing to latch onto, or upset that the infomercial didn't match the experience as advertised.]
Where are we?
[Luke seems to recognize it, and even without words Anakin can recognize the shift in his posture, just enough of one that doesn't speak positive volumes of the place. But it's better than being stuck somewhere neither of them recognize, and that's a start.]
no subject
Cloud City. Ask Lando; he owns the place.
[Luke takes a step toward the staircase.]
We're in the lower levels. It's kind of nice, if you get to the top...

[In any case, it's certainly got his attention. Are there fish? Is it dangerous? Luke attempts to be cautious, and that lasts about five minutes before he's taking off his shirt and boots, perparing to jump in. Almost as an afterthought, he disconnects the prosthetic hand, leaving it wrapped up in his discarded shirt.]
[Luke has heard the term 'good swimmer' before, so he knows, intellectually, that some people are better and some are worse; he doesn't think he'll be very good at it. But it doesn't occur to him that he won't be able to. And, to be fair, he can, just... not very well. It's not long before current (that's what it's called!) is too strong for him, and he's left stranded on a rock in the middle of the river, looking very much like a drowned rat as he attempts to crawl up the mossy sides. The distance from the rock to the shore is too much to jump for the average person, but maybe, if he can get free of the water, he could concentrate enough to call on the Force.]
[Luke slips again. It's a good enough plan, if he can manage to hold on. Doing all this one-handed isn't turning out to be the easiest thing in the galaxy.]
no subject
and miles with his broken arm. not that he thinks much of it when he bounds for the edge of the river, looking around hurriedly for an anchor of some kind. ]
Hold on!
[ he's already shrugging out of the sling supporting his cast, managing to pull it off one-handedly in an impressively short period of time. he unfastens it to its full length and finally catches sight of a half-sunken snag of wood that nonetheless seems to be stable enough. miles hooks one end of the sling around the snag, securing the other end to his belt. oh, there are so many ways this could go horribly wrong.
but he's not about to just stand there and watch luke struggle. miles wades slowly into the rushing current, keeping his footing steady as he can, but he's keenly aware that there's only so much the slight weight of his body can stand up to. let's hope he can get luke to shore quickly, at least. miles grits his teeth and stretches a hand out to luke. ]
Can you reach?
no subject
[It's not a very heartening thought. Luke hasn't passed a test in what feels like a very long time.]
[Luke shifts a bit, grasping the rock with what remains of his right arm while he reaches out with his left. It's enough that he can grasp the other man's wrist.] Thank- thank you.
[Of course, Luke has never been in a scenario like this before, and he has no idea how to move forward. He's not even sure the twig can hold them both-- wood always seems to brittle-- and it leaves Luke stuck, hooked onto the rock with one arm and grasping at a stranger with his remaining hand. Um.]
If I can get out of the water, I can- I can probably make the jump. [And, what, throw the stranger? This is a terrible plan.]
no subject
I'll lose my grip on you. Look, I'll count to three, and on three, you let go of the rock and jump forward. I'll pull you back -- we should be able to get past the main current and close enough to shore.
[ should, right. it's a risky move for sure, but there isn't exactly a safe play right now.

I was hoping we'd end up somewhere better than this.
[Luke steps forward, through the mist gathering around their feet. The trees are drooping with stale humidity, and their branches hide the sky almost entirely. He has to walk carefully, to keep from tripping over the uneven, slippery ground.]
[In that way, if nothing else, the Force provides. He's never really thought about how sure-footed he is, how he never seems to trip, always finds his balance without trying. Still, he offers his hand to Leia once more.] C'mon. I'll take you to see Yoda.
no subject
Great.]
Definitely not Alderaan.
[She tries to keep the disappointment out of her voice. Of all people, she wishes she could show Luke her home--but that's not what they're getting this time, and that's that. Yoda means Dagobah, and she knows just how important this planet is to her brother.
Taking Luke's hand, she nods.]
If he knows where we can find some dry ground, that'll be even better.
no subject
[He gently pulls her forward, and they begin their trudge toward Yoda's hut.] I would have preferred Alderaan, too. [He tries to say it flippantly, like he can't feel Leia's disappointment hanging in the Force.] But don't tell Master Yoda I said that.
no subject
They walk, and they walk--or more like stomp and stomp, since Luke's right. They started out on the damp side, and now everything below mid-calf feels splattered or soaked with mud and standing water.]
Where will we find him?

HOTH!
[The promise of a planet and a star system vastly outside his own comprehension was enough of a pitch to sell Sans on taking up the new mantle of Space Tourist. When you're as fascinated by space, even living on a space station isn't quite enough to dampen a guy's interest.
After all, that's sort of the appeal of space, isn't it? You kinda never run out of it.
He takes Luke's hand, his bones clattering against the metal of the prosthetic and nods for the guy to lead the way.]
no subject
[They jump.]
[...Luke will never forget the smell of tauntaun. It's not, despite Han's litanous complaints, terrible, but it's not pleasant either. Luke knows where they are before he opens his eyes. It's the tauntaun stables. That means they're on Hoth, and that means that Luke needs to get a jacket and hide his prosthetic. An older tauntaun leans its head over the wall of its stable to sniff at Luke.]
[With a sigh:] It's not feeding time. [Another leans its head over and does the same thing.] It's not- oh, fine. [Luke begins searching his pockets, and all the tauntauns in their row of the stables begin to take notice.]
no subject
What the heck are those? [Their appearance doesn't alarm him so much -- monsters were a diverse bunch -- but the way they're huddling around Luke like he's their king is a little confusing. That is, unless they're--] Some sort of dogs or something?
no subject
What-? No, no. Actually, they're reptilian, according to 3PO. [Like Sans knows who that is. Luke keeps going.] We use them as mounts; they're native to Hoth.
[Luke hands out the last of his ration bars.] No, that's it, I'm out. [Tauntauns are not, actually, intelligent enough to take verbal cues. Luke sighs deeply.]

Seriously, dude?
Hold onto your head.
[He meant to say 'hat', but. Points for trying.]
[Because, if Luke doesn't object, he's going to simply scoop him up. And grin a lopsided, cocky grin at him.]
Thaaaaaat's better. Ready now?
no subject
Let's go! [He holds on tight to the nearest finger.]
no subject
[And without further ado... it's time to leap into the portal.]
[Which is weird. To say the least. But no weirder than staggering out about the same time you left. It's even the same time of day. The same scrap yard, with the rows of cars and junk lined up like various walls. Aisles of it, really. They'd stumbled on a big one when they'd established their base, and thankfully, the quasi-loony owner didn't mind them living there.]
[... but no other bots.]
[He sets Luke down, gingerly, looking around with his hands on his hips.]
Oooookay. This is it. But where's everyone?
no subject
[Noticing the wheels--] Is this a... car? [Like 'car' is a word from a foreign language. Which, you know, technically it is.]
