communicate & protect
"The best way to protect something is to set it free."

Since the Moira has arrived on Ceta, things have been (mostly) quiet considering their usual stay on planets before it. The only cruelty about this one is the fact they hunt for both sport and gain, and the creatures of Ceta do not have a voice—or intelligence to defend themselves. However, as the crew of the ship will come to learn, this is an elaborate lie. With the previous problem of the MID malfunctioning, and causing a bit of a miscommunication fiasco, finally solved, it is apparent that whatever had been wrong with this technology had slowly begun to affect the crew prior to exploring Ceta. Only in subtle, unnoticed ways.

With everything beginning to run a little more smoothly, a shift in the air overtakes both the Moira and Ceta in the days following.
☄ A LESSON IN MID COMMUNICATION ( 03.17 - 03.22 )
As the translator technology has recently been fixed, the crew will notice that their MID devices now come with an extra feature: a brief explanation of the extra capabilities of the translation technology. Each MID records all language that is spoken near it, stores information on phonetics and linguistics in order to keep each language as current as possible. In the event that an unknown language is encountered, all known languages are applied until the meanings of each sound or word are decoded. In some instances, it’s a long process, and in others, it spans the time of a few weeks.

There is a small addendum that states that no conversations are recorded and stored in their entirety in order to protect privacy.

Crew may ask themselves why this is there, but all they have to do is get close enough to one of the flying, whale-like creatures to find out. Communication is still not quite perfect, and this is where the translator technology needs the crew’s help. The more two beings interact using speech, the further the database will expand. Attempting communication might be futile at first, but eventually, the low peaceful songs filling the misty air of Ceta are broken with words: a cry for help When the creatures have come close to the temporaries before, it was not out of curiosity; it was an attempt to destroy them and save themselves. But remember, even if you want to help, these creatures are skittish around sudden light and it takes time for them to trust, time the Moira might not have.
☄ TRADE FOR RESOLUTION ( 03.22 - 03.25 )
It’s common knowledge that this universe runs on a system of trade for either goods or services. If you can provide either of those to another, then you can have anything you want. This includes protection. The closest neighboring planet, like so many others, has a variety of groups that can be hired out to perform a number of duties. In an effort to offer the crew peaceful resolution for something that they’ve learned is discomfiting to many Moirans, the hunting and killing of innocent creatures on Ceta, the captains suggest something a little different this time.

Contact and an initial payment has been made to a team of soldiers to travel to Ceta to meet with the crew. Essentially, if enough valuable resources are offered to this group, they will do whatever is necessary to rid Ceta of the hunters and declare that Ceta is a protected planet. This means that they will protect these giant creatures from future harm as long as a yearly sum is delivered to them. The captains agree to continue payment as long as the rest of the crew can gather enough for the first year.
☄ FEEDING FRENZY ( 03.25 - 03.31 )
With everything finally coming to a peaceful close, the Moira and the crew’s routine begin to return to normal. The process for leaving Ceta is spread ship-wide. However, as they leave Ceta’s atmosphere and enter space once more, some odd things appear to have flooded the ship. An infestation of scraplets have led to minor complications that soon start to escalate. Feeding exclusively on metal, they make a mangled mess of the ship's systems, causing them to glitch and stop working altogether as they chew their way through its internal workings. You may notice your door will no longer open or close, or maybe the temperature has gotten unusually warm. Is that a leak? How did that get there? Maybe you happen to be made of metal yourself, or have metallic prosthetics - "living" metal is actually preferred over the walls of the ship.

The infestation will start to threaten critical systems if left unchecked and will need to be taken care of as quickly as possible. It is the crew’s responsibility to band together and figure out a way to stop these scraplets from devouring the entirety of the ship and leaving them stranded or worse.

Venom Snake || OPEN

Feeding Frenzy:

[Venom roared in anger as he aimed to smash into a nearby corridor wall, aiming to knock the metallic monsters attatched to his prosthetic arm. Even though he couldn't feel pain on his arm the creatures were gnawing it off his fucking arm. The skin attached to his arm was being attacked and he could feel that. Yeah, that hurt.]

Get the hell off of me! [Snake stamped on a few scraplets that failed to sink their teeth into the metal well enough and ended up on the floor. Snake growled and then launched himself on the ground, as he felt more of the metal monsters climb up his back and launch themselves onto his arm like a magnet. He was a damn magnet to these things. Whatever the hell they were. What was happening? All Snake knew was that they ate metal and were destroying his prosthetic arm.]

I need this, dammit! [He had no weapons on his that would do any damage to these things. His tranq was non-lethal and no good up against these metal munching beasts. Shit. It seemed hopeless as the metallic monsters kept climbing up his legs, over his back, up his chest just to get to his arm. Their prize. He kicked a few on the floor and then bashed his arm against the wall once more trying to knock them off.]

[Liquid had thought he and Venom had done a pretty good job kicking these things' tiny butts, but apparently the damage they'd done hadn't been enough. Where one fell, another one'd seem to burst out of the metalwork to take its place.

And speaking of Venom... that shout he heard was a familiar voice, wasn't it? Taking his knife out of his pocket, he moved to investigate, stomping on a few stray scraplets along the way. It wasn't long until he discovered the man he'd once thought was his father there, trying to fight off some of the little robot creatures that seemed fixated on his arm.

Wow, he had something of an upper hand for a change, huh? Too bad killing him wasn't on the agenda today.

He headed over, using the knife to dislodge a few of the scraplets from the man's artificial hand, then punched off another with his free hand. Flipping the knife around in his hand a few times, he stomped on a few that landed. There were more, but it'd help, for now.]

Need some help?

[Snake's head snapped around to spot Liquid punching and crushing the metal monsters.]

Eli- Liquid- I'm damn glad to see you. [He couldn't help but utter the man's real name even though he knew Liquid preferred his codename. But Venom was trying to save his arm right now so sorry, Liquid. He crushes another ravenous scraplet under foot as he felt the knife dislodge some of the others.]

These bastards are eating my arm. Hell knows why. [Snake was pleased to see that Liquid had gotten hold of a knife. He was also glad that it wasn't being plunged into him this time.]
saveyourserpent: (heh)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-03-20 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Liquid's grip on the knife tightened upon hearing his name, but he managed to focus more on the task at hand. It was a little difficult not referring to both Venom and Big Boss as 'father', so he understood. Sort of. A little.]

Well, I mean, it's got to be the metal, right? [He tapped on the knife.] Remember, we saw them eating things? Suppose they've decided your arm's delicious.

[He stomped on another one as it tried to head towards Venom.] Looks like it's some sort of... infestation. Well, this is a mess.

[Venom glanced down at Liquid's knife. Yeah. The metal. The creatures were attracted to the metal.]

How could I forget that. They weren't as aggressive as they are now though. [Venom felt something on the back of his neck. What the?- He went to swipe it off but not before it scuttled down his chest and bit onto his arm. Damn. He smashed his arm against the wall, crushing the creature into tiny bits.]

Watch they don't eat your knife. [Snake went into an attack pose as around five creatures launched themselves at him. He punched most of them off but one or two still had their jaws around his arm. They bit hard and one bit around where his arm joined to his flesh.]

Shit! [Venom swore as pain shot up his arm and drops of blood could be seen blooming under his Moira uniform where his arm had been bitten.]

[Liquid stomped another one. It wasn't super hard to get rid of them on the ground, although they did have a way of just scuttling everywhere. He was pretty much gathering intel on them as he fought them, trying to figure out just what to do with them. Maybe someone somewhere might know their origin? Didn't matter at the moment, though.]

They seem to have realized they've got a good feast around here.

I'll be so careful. I've only got the one, after all. [And he had no intention of losing it anytime soon. Or anytime later, for that matter. When Venom swore, he glanced over at him, noting he'd gotten a pretty bad bite. He knocked the remaining ones off his arm.]

You alright? Damn things are vicious.

[Imagine, actually being concerned for Venom. First time for everything, right?]

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-03-20 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'll be fine. It's just a scratch.

[A scratch that looks like a nasty gash along his arm just where the join of his prosthetic is. It looks like the creatures have made a nice pattern of teeth marks in your flesh, Venom. Snake shook more of the little bastards off and smashed his fist into the wall, crushing two in one go.]

How many are there of these things? Wonder what they're weak to. [Ahab moved back to press his back up against the wall, hearing more trying to scuttle under the doorframe.]
saveyourserpent: (distance)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-03-20 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright. [It looked pretty bad, but if Venom was going to be okay with it, then there were more pressing matters to attend to.]

I don't know. They seem to have appeared rather suddenly, and so far I haven't found anything out about them. I'm still working on it. Can't have been a deliberate introduction; I've discovered nothing of the sort.

[Because nobody can slip something in under his nose, right? But, hey. Technically he's been doing his job.]

They're weak to smashing, at least.

[Individually.]

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-03-21 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Smashing.

[Snake had to chuckle softly at Liquid's words. It seemed the blond still enjoyed beating the crap out of things even at this age. Whether, it be him or the real Big Boss or these metal monsters.]

How about we get out of here? Find someplace where it's metal free. The Gardens? [Surely, they wouldn't be followed there, right?]
saveyourserpent: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-03-21 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's true, isn't it?

[He took a second to gesture at the 'carnage' on the ground before smashing another one with his fist. Of course he loved beating the crap out of things. And stabbing them, and shooting them, and otherwise being destructive. It was just how he was, wasn't it?

He had a lot of anger, and he needed a place to put it. Fighting worked.]

There's probably some metal there too, but might be enough less that your arm'll be okay. Wouldn't hurt. They'd probably want to stick around places with less... vegetation.
cardboard_boss: art: shinkawa (naked snake)

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-03-21 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. That's what I'm thinking. They don't eat plants so let's go.

[Venom was tired of being attacked by the Scraplets and wanted to give his arm some breathing room. Also he could feel the blood continuing to slowly bloom over his Moira uniform just around his elbow. Shit. Maybe the bite was worse than he thought?]

We'll go to the gardens then I'd better get checked at Med bay for this arm.
saveyourserpent: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-03-21 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's hope not, anyway. Last thing we need is to find out they're vegetable fans too.

[Pretty unlikely, but he learned not to ever dismiss things just for being unlikely. His life (and death) in general were pretty damn unlikely. Making sure they'd at least cleared enough to head out, he started forward.]

Just long enough to shake them off. That doesn't look so great.
cardboard_boss: art: shinkawa (Default)

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-03-23 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Come on, let's go.

[Snake made his way down the many corridors of the Moira towards the gardens. Where else could they go to escape? Most places were made out of metal and the Scraplets would track them down easily. Venom looked back to see if Liquid was following him, as he stamped on a rogue Scraplet scurrying towards him on the floor.]

We'll make it.
saveyourserpent: (dramatic)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-03-23 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Liquid nodded and set to following Venom, keeping an eye out for any more of the robots along the way. Luckily, or not so much depending on who was talking, they seemed busy. He didn't have as much to worry about with them as Venom did; Liquid, after all, had no robotic parts. Being essentially a biological experiment had its perks.]

I know I'll make it, but I'm not the one running around with metal bits here.
cardboard_boss: art: shinkawa (Venom artwork)

[personal profile] cardboard_boss 2016-04-01 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Lucky you.

[Snake shot him a sly smirk and continued onwards. Lucky you, Liquid. You don't have any metal parts for the Scraplets to chew off. They made it to the Gardens just in time, as Snake slammed the door behind them.]

That should hold them off for a while.
saveyourserpent: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] saveyourserpent 2016-04-01 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
About time I got some kind of lucky.

[He made sure to kick at any that might seem like they'd hinder their progress. So far, it easily could have been worse. Once they made it into the gardens, he turned to look at the door, arms crossed.]

Yeah, until they eat the door.

[Way to be optimistic, Liquid.]
