"Open up, and let them in."
☄ WEEK ONE Crew are asked to hook cryo beds together and to use any appropriate vehicles that can be made or fashioned to fit the terrain to carry injured crew on the journey to the center of the Hub. Supplies are gathered, and the Captains, as well as any crew who want to, give the Moira a proper sendoff, heads bowed as they say goodbye to what’s been their home. Traveling starts out slowly, a line of a hundred-plus crew members making their way slowly forward. Stops are frequent, but camping for rest only occurs at night. Crew are assigned watch shifts, fires are built, injured tended to, and those who are able are asked to explore nearby caves and hunt for food. ☄ WEEK TWO When crew finally pass through the sector gates, a strange sensation encompasses them, and a depowering of sorts goes into effect. The creators put in security measures meant to put all visitors on equal footing as well as to protect themselves from harm. All crew will essentially have the strength and abilities of the average human. An unforeseen issue, this causes Captain Thán to slip into a coma as he is no longer able to continue to recover at a steady pace, and with the loss of the former Captain’s abilities, crew can no longer be brought back if they die. For the first time, all Moirans are subject to permanent death. ☄ WEEK THREE Entering the third week of travel, settlements and houses begin to crop up and are prime areas for exploration and general supplies. Those who go inside may find items that have been left behind and evidence showing that those of varying species and cultures lived in the homes. Some appeared to have been scientists while others were explorers, but all living quarters are deserted. Crew who are less lucky in their search might come away with no fresh supplies, and others might walk into traps or safeguards left behind by previous tenants; these come in many forms, from mild paralysis to temporary unconsciousness. As there are more residences, there are also more caves. The entrances vary in size, and light sources will be needed to explore. Once inside, crew can find purple underwater streams, which can be consumed, and glowing surfaces. When crew drink the water, it temporarily restores powers, a few minutes tops, and then, extreme lethargy settles in for a couple of hours. ☄ WEEK FOUR The Captains, aware that the crew is exhausted, stop and make camp for the first few days. Someone mentions that it’s the holidays where they’re from, and the Captains do their best to throw a party. Set up at the base of a cave, tents are built and fires roar. Soft music is played in the form of guitar, thank you Ira, and Cúrre brings out some legumes that taste like cherries when roasted. There isn’t much in the way of decorations, but crew are encouraged to dig through their pac-discs and contribute to the festivities. |

But while he had been avoiding people, the doctor had at least been paying attention to them in turn. His voice, when it came from somewhere behind the other man, was low key and dry. ]
This is as good as your suggestion that someone jump in a hole; for science.
[ Which was to say ... a bad suggestion. Stark, seriously.
Despite any misgivings the doctor may have, it didn't stop him from approaching the purple stream and hunkering down on his heels close to it. He had his makeshift bow slung over his shoulder, as well as a very battered old messenger bag, that he now carried everywhere with him. Courser was with him as well, though the bahari was sitting a safe distance away from the purple stream and looking down towards the shadows at the back of the cave.
Adrien dug into that battered bag and withdrew a piece of equipment. Balanced on his heels, he fiddled with the settings, brow furrowed pensively. ]
I know I read the manual on this thing, or maybe I just meant to read the manual on this thing.

Tony glances over his shoulder at the interjection, giving Adrien an accusing look. ]
What? It was for science. And so is this. [ He glances back at the purple stream, rubbing at his chin thoughtfully. ] ... Well, mostly.
[ Morbid curiosity is at least half of it. Probably. Tony wanders closer when Adrien crouches down at the edge of the water, eyes drifting between the machine and the water. ]
I hope that's a convenient "tell us if this stuff'll liquefy your insides or not" probe.

IV. (week 3)
[Is a reply that's both flat and ernest. Hawke isn't exactly the wonderful ball of sunshine and cheer that she usually is. The loss of her magic is brutal. It's affecting the very core of her being. Something like being Tranquil but not quite so extreme. It's like her emotions were in a lockbox along with her sense of humor, leaving only an usual directness and logic, try as she might to find more. Sometimes other things escaped but she mostly felt dull. Even around people like Tony.
And back to the water. Hawke walks methodically up to the pool, drops to her knees, and sticks her hand in the purple liquid. It's pleasantly warm and yet makes her shiver a little like waking up from sleep.]
It feels safe.

And yet.
When she stoops down to shove her hand in the water - well, that part, at least, seems quintessentially Hawke. ]

III (Week 1)
[No, this was somehow a different Ingress! He rushes into the cave and...]
[Unceremoniously trips, falling face first with a...splat?]
[That was definitely a splat.]
A-AUGH...AUGH!!! WHAT THE HELL?! WHAT IS THIS?! IT'S LIKE I JUST FACEPLANTED INTO SOMEONE'S TONGUE!! UGH!!
no subject
[ "An Ingress filled with a giant tongue" would not even be the weirdest thing Tony's seen around here.
Still, he's a good Samaritan - sometimes - so he stoops down to scruff Darin and peel him off the moist, deeply unnerving ground and thanks the high heavens that he's not wearing anything that can actually get wet. ]

If you would be so kind to remove mine, sir. I would be very grateful.

And here I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to hold onto something so fashionable.

I ( week 1 )
With the MID now completely useless, she'd been unable to get in touch with anyone she'd made friends with. After he'd dumped Adrien off at Medbay and had gone off shortly afterwards, no contact could be established with the crash killing off all communicators. She'd been so busy with the Medtent to seek anyone out herself, pretty banged up herself, but hearing him now call out...it was a relief to hear his voice.
The three kids reached her waist, huddled close. She'd stopped to look for where he was calling from and then smiled as soon as he was spotted, herding the three with her. ]
Do you accept tips?
[ God she'd been wondering how to get the stupid thing off after emerging from her pod with the kids, screen cracked, the bracelet like a dead weight on her wrist. There hadn't been much time to clean up, blood dried and caked down her left arm from the bandage Nate had wrapped and secured, her right arm in a sling, side of her face a colorful splash of bruising and cuts.
And yet...she was smiling and pushing through the pain. ]
I'd wondered what had happened to you after you left me with the Doc. You all right?
no subject
Depends. Do you tip in effusive praise and ego-stroking? [ But he's wandering closer anyway, pulling out the various tools he'll need for the little procedure. He moves slowly, lest the kids spook - he has no idea what their temperament is like normally, but they just lived through an honest-to-god shipwreck, so no surprises here if they're a little on edge. He tips a screwdriver in their direction, greeting them directly in the hopes of taking any edge off. ] And this must be Alvin and the Chipmunks. 'Sup, kids.
[ Then he's motioning for Elena to present her wrist, shrugging at the question. ]
Oh, just spent that afternoon murdering an army of monsters. Typical stuff. Barely noteworthy. [ He gives her a scrutinizing look through the curtain of flippant words. ] It sorta looks like I made it out in better shape than you did.

[riptide just gunfingers at tony, while walking backwards into the river. until he's thigh deep in it.]
Well, it's not burning off my armour, so that's a start.
no subject
[ Tony fingerguns right back while Riptide deposits himself in the water, though he scoots closer to peer into it, brow furrowed. Well, it's true, it's not devouring Riptide's legs. Yet.
Huh. ]
No tingling-burning sensation? Bizarre flashbacks? Feeling you might be pulled through a slip in space-time disguised as a babbling purple brook?

I know you're jealous of my slick future-tech but you don't have to try and get me to break it.

Difficult didn't seem to cover it.
So she did what she always did when she didn't want to face her feelings: she kept busy. She assisted with the search and rescue, she helped with salvaging, she even helped with some minor first aid when she could. Anything so she didn't think.
Which is why she's still lingering by the crash site, and why she spots Tony when she does. It's been a while since she's spoken to him, and now definitely seems like a fitting time to check in.]
Mind setting me free? [She gestures to the useless device still on her wrist. It's been an annoyance since she arrived, and while she's gotten used to it over the last nine months, she won't complain to see it go.]
no subject
He offers her a smile that borders on genuine more the cynical, which is novel enough right now. ]
You get the family discount, which exempts you from needing to sing my effusive praises as compensation. Lucky break.
[ Just in case Peggy doesn't already get enough Howard flashbacks. He gestures for her to hold out her wrist while he plucks out a series of tiny tools that look like they must be for extremely miniaturized circuitry, under normal circumstances.
He probably won't accidentally saw her wrist off. Probably. ]

@ week 3
I dunno, Stark, want me to push you in and we find out? [She starts with a teasing tone, the "threat" not much of an actual threat - might as well play it cool until she knows what he last remembers from home.]
no subject
Well, he'll be damned. ]
Y'know, suddenly, I'm actually not all that interested. [ He looks taken aback, a touch amused - all good signs, probably. ] I didn't realize this cave was full of deadly spiders, or might not've wandered into it alone.

It's not poisonous.
[Kaz says as he hears the "ew", showing up just in time to witness this part of the investigation. He steps inside himself. And wincing behind his glasses as his now-bag-covered shoes squish down into the squelchy moist mass.]
Which doesn't mean its pleasant. I took some samples of the tissue just in case. Any idea of what's happening here?
[Who knows, maybe there's a part of the journals that's never been released? Or there's something reflecting changes to the Ingress prior to the crash? Or maybe all they know is "ew" and that a dog with a finicky palette decided she wanted to drink from it.]
no subject
[ Tony crouches down to scrutinize the floor, the HUD tossing various pieces of observational data at him that he largely ignores. He presses a gauntleted hand flat against it out of pure scientific curiosity before looking up at Kaz. ]
Is that a general question, or a question specific to this particular Ingress's choice in interior decor?

How about you try being a little bit more careful. We’re supposed to be searching for supplies… not adding to the body count. ( she murmurs the last bit under her breath as she considers throwing a book at his head. )

That may or may not confirm her "he isn't overly concerned about it" theory, or else he's just really good at playing it off as blasé. ]

[He's in full vigilante gear as he explores, keeping a safe distance from Tony (and trying to stay out of sight), until Tony, predictably, triggers one of the traps.]
[And out comes the Devil of Hell's Kitchen (or... wherever this is, anyway), from the roof, slamming into Tony to knock him out of the way.]
--Watch out!
[aaaaaand getting sprayed with some kind of paralysis gas. Now he's on top of Tony, and he can't move. This is awkward.]

He curbs his instinct to deck his (attacker? no - doesn't seem like it) once he realizes the guy is helping. Trying to help. Except they're on a pile on the floor and honestly, yes, it's a little awkward. ]
Look. [ He's gonna go for conversational. The fuck. ] I'm easy, but not quite this easy.
