"We sometimes encounter people, even perfect strangers, who begin to interest us at first sight, somehow suddenly, all at once."
☄ lights down low The lighting has dimmed in all the rooms and halls, the normally crisp air that is pumped from the vents low, and all machines and tech are running at half-speed. These effects can be found throughout the ship. Water in the showers remain hot for only a few minutes before reverting to cold. Recreational equipment powers off not long after it has been turned on. The sanitation and water filtration systems require an hourly manual reboot, and all unused areas of the ship have no power allotted to them until a crew member steps inside. Even then, most functions are not optimal. It’s as if the Moira has been transformed into a dark house with only a candle flickering on the window sill. ☄ reuse & recycle The Captain and First Mate are quick to establish that this is a new regime and go about making the ship and its crew more efficient in the wake of their change in course and the low power state of the ship itself. This means they will systematically inspect each occupied barracks room and leave notes for what needs to be disposed of or stowed away. Unlike before, this is no longer a pleasure cruise, and each member of the crew is a guest on board; they will not tolerate useless clutter. Anything seen as unnecessary will be either placed into storage in the Cargo Bay or disposed of through the airlock. This new need for efficiency also extends to the need to conserve resources until they reach their destination. The showers are set to an automatic timer to minimize water waste. Those few minutes of hot water are all a crew member is now given. Meals are smaller, bordering on ration sizes, and luxuries are done away with entirely in order to preserve supplies so that the ship can go longer before needing to dock at a planet. ☄ new jobs, same faces The Captain and his First Mate, as expressed in their addressing of the Moira, explain that work efficiency is a priority. Applications for a head of the following departments will be accepted for a short period: Navigation, the Tower, Medbay, Defense, the Hold, Sanitation, Ingress work, and the Galley/Mess Hall. (Here.) After reviewing what they receive, one head of department will be chosen and tasked with helping crew find positions relevant to those departments and their own skillsets. They will be allowed to retain any positions that they held before that aren’t ship-functional jobs, but they will have to be done in leisure time. In two weeks time, they’ll be accepting department position applications which will be approved, and all those that do not apply will be assigned in accordance with their initial work application. They will also choose three individuals to act as guards of Ploiatos to ensure that there is a rotation available at all times. Will you choose to follow this new decision and promote yourself into a position of responsibility? Or will you simply wait for a reassignment? |
76 | overwatch
[76 comes out of the Ingress swinging.
Not immediately swinging, but close enough. It takes him a moment to realize that he isn’t in the same place he was just a minute ago, and when he gains his bearings he doesn’t exactly take it well. Survival instincts kick into overdrive, and all he can think is that somehow he’s been captured or compromised. It’s not what he needs to be dealing with, and as he stalks his way (cautiously) towards what he assumes to be an exit, he’s waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Suffice to say, when he’s finally approached (or, really, just happens upon someone else), he reacts very poorly.
If you’re fast, you might be able to catch him (or duck) before he swings a punch or slams you up against the wall. If you’re not, surprise!]
b. medbay
[Medbay doesn’t go much better. Though it seems he’s grasped what’s going on and isn’t trying to fight anyone who gets near him, he’s not exactly receptive to assistance or particularly cooperative (did he just growl at that person he totally did), and doesn’t seem to want to relinquish any gear for medical assessment purposes. It’s a little awkward to watch (especially the part where he totally growled at that guy, or you, maybe).
But eventually it happens, and the contract is signed, likely because he seems to realize that there’s no real choice in the matter. His face doesn’t need to be visible for it to be clear that he’s not at all pleased by this turn of events, and as soon as he’s able, he’s gathering up his equipment and getting the hell out of dodge.
Hopefully you’re not in his way. If you are, he probably doesn’t care, oops.]
c. sure is dark in here
[He doesn’t care much for the ship’s current politics, to say the least. They can sort themselves out, and in the meantime, he’ll familiarize himself with every nook and cranny of the ship he can find. 76 isn’t entirely convinced that things won’t take a turn for the worse, so it certainly can’t hurt for him to work out contingency plans. Potential escape routes. Places for getting out of the way if things really go south.
And it doesn’t hurt to memorize the layout, either, even in the dark (perhaps, especially in the dark). For a man of his size, he moves quietly through the halls, though the red glow of his visor will certainly give him away more than noise. 76 is still not convinced that any given thing or person he comes across isn’t a threat.
That’s what the really big gun is for, and it’s pointed cautiously at any sign of movement. Perhaps that is you?]
d. nomo 024
[None of this is really new to him, technically speaking, except for the whole ‘being in space’ part. Rations? Sure. Barracks? Whatever. A timer on hot water? He’s surprised there’s hot water in the first place. He’s certainly dealt with much worse in the field.
What he doesn’t really want to entertain is roommates, even though it seems inevitable, given the layout of the quarters. He supposes he’ll cross that bridge when he comes to it.
For now, he claims his space, and gets to disassembling his rifle to make sure nothing was tampered with. He'll give cursory acknowledgement to anyone else who enters the room, but it doesn't seem like he's interested in introducing himself. Rude.]

[ Nihlus is, fortunately, very fast.
He deflects the oncoming blow with the back of his arm, free hand coming up to snap shut around the man's forearm. If that move succeeds, he'll twist said arm up and against his attacker's back, kick the guy's foot out from under him and slam him into the floor. ]
no subject
Don't.
[He has them effectively locked in a stalemate, however temporarily. 76 knows well enough how easily that might change, so in the instant before Nihlus might try something else, he growls a warning.]

C. Because Genji never boasted to be a clever man
Which is why he doesn't think much of it when he spots someone he recognizes.
Ahh yes. The vigilante. He clears his throat superfluously and tosses a hand up in what he hopes is a disarming greeting. ]
Hello!
[ Hope for the best, right? Sure. ]
rest in pepperoni
76 stops short, suspicion written all over his body language, like he's trying to decide whether or not to betray recognition. He supposes it's not out of the question that a shady vigilante actively targeting old Overwatch bases would know who used to work for the organization.
Still, he settles on a more neutral response, growled out as he motions with the muzzle of his rifle.]
Out of the way.
[It's little more than a growl, the warning in his voice abundantly clear.]

Nomo 024
Fortunately for its occupant, he has configured to the local network links by now. As well as the cameras. And speakers! The voice that pipes in through the ceiling is flatly cheerful, a robotic male greeting.]
<Greetings. Welcome to Domesticon warranty and recycling-->
[There's a crackle of static, and the tinny echo cuts entirely. The commentary that follows is in recognizably the same voice... but nothing of the syntax or tone remains alike.]
Whoops. Sorry about that. Still, ah, shuffling some scripts.
no subject
Suffice to say when the voice rings out, he does not react well.
He's on his feet in an instant, exhibiting almost inhuman reflexes as he snaps the magazine back into his rifle, visor scanning the room for any sign of life. Not finding any only sends his survival instincts into overdrive.
It's clear it's taking some concentrated effort not to blast up the room.]

b - medbay
[He's in one corner, and the sound of... growling...? is in another. Regardless, he glances over once or twice, while he wraps scrapes on his arms. The armor neatly stacked beside him.]
It is easier if you just go along with it, you know.
[He says, without giving the other man a second glance -- it's a man, right? Or maybe it's an ape like Winston. Hard to tell without another look.] The sooner they are done, the sooner we leave.
no subject
He's acutely aware of his own breath on the inside of his mask and counts along with inhales and exhales, reminding himself that there's no way Reinhardt will be able to know that it's him.
So he can't believe he's actually thankful for the nagging medbay staff. The poking and prodding isn't an adequate distraction, but it's enough for him to keep from looking over, checking to see if Reinhardt has even acknowledged him yet. In between questions about medical history that he refuses to answer, 76 plots an escape route--hopes that he finishes first and can make a discreet exit.
But he doesn't exactly get the chance, because Reinhardt speaks up after he accidentally lets a particularly disgruntled noise escape him. 76 is silent for a long moment after that, taking in a voice he last heard on television, reciting a eulogy.]

Excuse you, there's no need to be rushing around like this. There are injured people here I hope you realize.
[ And she'll give him an unimpressed once-over, blue eyes sharp for a change. She won't make any mention of recognizing him or knowing they've come from the same place, but she will also... not let him pass her easily, side-stepping to stay right in his path. Her expression and tone gentles after her first bark, shifting down into something borderline friendly. ]
Those doctors in there were only doing their jobs. We've all been displaced from our lives the same as you, so there's no reason to act out.
no subject
His expression is mostly indiscernible through his visor, but she can probably see the way his eyebrows pinch together.
Reinhardt is bad enough. Angela twists him up inside the same way. 76 has to fight it down, remind himself that the very particular feeling in his gut is just the last vestiges of someone he used to be. He has different priorities now, and can't get caught up in things he put to rest six years ago.]
I'll get out of your way.

[She's seen the reports, seen those hazy half-focused pictures of the vigilante.]
I know you.
[Know of you, have heard of you, have watched the news vids with a warring sense of justice and order. She was never sure what to make of him; acting for rightesouness but outside the bounds of the law. Facing him, now, she feels all those conflicting emotions rise up again.]

[Kaz is making the rounds to see which rooms are the most powered down. Making notes on an actual pen and paper tablet so that he can reference it later, what areas are safer or not. Some are more quiet than others. Some... well, he's been warned about the whispers. And after what happened a few weeks ago to him, it's disconcerting.]
[He's catching hints of those very quiet sounds, voices barely heard. He's not been in this part of the ship much.]
[And then he turns a corner, and there's a guy with a gun. Welp.]
[Kaz has plenty of experience with this, and other than a slight twitch of brows over his sunglasses (which he's wearing even in the dark like a true champion), he doesn't react. Just raises his hands (pen in the right glove-hidden prosthetic, tablet in the left) lightly in a surrender position. Then steps back around the corner out of range, ready to duck into real cover if he needs.] Need to confirm you're crew, do you have an MID? [Simple enough question right off the bat for a man patrolling with a gun. There are some, so he assumes. C; way to scare the kids, dad
[They nearly run into him turning around the corner and yelp in surprise, stumbling back a few steps. The red visor catches their attention first, and Frisk is quick to plaster on a cheerful smile.]
Um, sorry! I, um, I didn't see--
[Then they spot the gun.]
[It feels like the world freezes for a moment. The darkened halls were already putting them on edge, just a little too like the SEELE corridors for them to shake that uneasy feeling in the back of their mind. Combined with the eerie light they carry with them everywhere, and an imposing figure pointing a gun right at them...]
[Suddenly the air stinks like blood, too much of it, in the walls glowing orange and they can't move but they have to, they'll die if they don't run, Papyrus will die and the guards will come, and it will all be over and it's their fault--]
[Frisk's mind is racing, their stare vacant yet fixed on the barrel of that rifle. They clutch the papers to their chest, and tremble hard enough to set their hair chiming against itself. That's...a bit extreme of a reaction for what seems like just a kid, right...?]

he's nothing if not a people person, though, and he quickly busies himself trying to assist anyone who looks like they might need it to push down his own anxiety about the situation. it was something he did was he was leading against vishkar and something he finds does genuinely help him relax. they're all in the same boat, after all. literally.

She tries to distract herself as they take her vitals, and she ends up watching a new arrival put up his hackles for every medical worker that tries to get close to him. It's a little funny, but she doesn't blame him in the least; she's exactly the same way. Her first checkup had gone about as well, even if she hadn't literally growled at anyone.
Their checkups finish at roughly the same time, and she's about as eager to get out of the medbay as him. Even though her muscles still ache from the shackles and her ribs are still bruised, she nearly runs towards the exit, the little droid rolling behind her, magnetized head tilted forward as if she were running as well. Her timing is perfect for an almost-collision near the doorway, and she tries to shoulder past him even though it makes her exhale sharply through her teeth.]

What he isn't expecting is to be swung at. So when 76 aims to hit him, Arno suddenly reacts- ducking underneath and whirling, feet spread apart as his arms pan outwards for balance; a stance that shows that he can either run or fight, depending on the enemy and the situation.
