"the trees rustle in the evening when we stand uneasy before our own thoughts."
☄ LEAP OF FAITH ( 05.01 and on ) The barren planet of Amissis-Re is devoid of vegetation and organic life except for a lone woman, and the planet itself is an intricate honeycomb of machines that go for miles below the surface. Yet, that seems insignificant and unimportant in comparison to the news that the crew has just received. After Thán has looked at the Ingress, he tells the crew that he cannot say for certain that it is properly functioning, but Emiri native, Ben Link, will volunteer to test it out. ☄ COMBINE THE EXTREMES ( 05.01 and on ) The woman that greeted the crew and led them to the platform will allow anyone that wants to go home the opportunity to go. There’s only one catch: it’s not permanent. She’s worked for years to fix the Ingress so that she can return to her own home but hasn’t been able to make the trip an everlasting one. Everyone always comes back. Always. They go for a few hours, at first, but that amount of time increases with each visit. ☄ LINGER ON ( 05.05 and on ) The more times the Amissis-Re Ingress is visited, the more it seems that your trips last longer and the experience becomes even more vivid. More real and harder to distinguish from the current reality that you know. It’s difficult to explain why, but you get the feeling that maybe if you went without the aid of the host, that perhaps you’d be able to stay. Forever. It takes some subterfuge, but in time, you see your chance: she’s nowhere in sight, and you take it. |
Peter Maximoff
[He doesn't hesitate; even if it's only a change to go home for a little while, Peter is jumping for it. The Moira might be shiny and advanced and hold his new family, but he's missed his sisters, his room, his space. And coming away from the mayhem he's caused, there's a childish part of him that just really wants his mother to remind him that no matter how badly he's screwed up, there was always a place Peter was welcomed with open arms. Even if she was more likely to give him a good smack before hugging him.
Whomever he's pulled along on the ride has been given some specific rules. No powers outside of the house. No talking to his family about what happened the last few months. They're welcome to follow him home, if they promise to play nice by his sisters. Or they can explore DC on their own, he doesn't care. He's got business to attend to.]
Maybe I should stop and pick something up for the baby first. Coming back empty handed seems a little bad, right?
There's Room In a Hotel In New York City; Closed to J/Ed
[She's alive. She's not talking and she's probably more traumatized than he is and they've got miles of shit to work out that neither have the maturity to even start on, but he can push all of that aside because she's alive.
After seeing the broadcast, Peter felt like turning tail on his world. But he remembers her talking about New York, the way her eyes had lit up and he's taking her through the portal before he can second guess himself. He owes her, more than he feels capable of paying back in his lifetime, and if he has to suffer through a world that has a sudden knowledge and suspicion of what he is, then okay. He'll do it for her. He can't make up for what he caused but he can do this.
So he's made J pack extra clothes in case the trip doesn't agree with her, stuffed all his hair under a knit cap he'd taken from an earlier trip home, and pulled her through.]
Just stick close to me, okay?
[There's part of him that's irrationally afraid to have her in his world, regardless of that need to grovel for what he caused. Part of it is the walking into the unknown, unsure of what population is really thinking about the mutant reveal and what could happen if they figure out what he is. A lot of it is just because it's her. He's watched her die once and cities are dangerous even without a rocky political climate.]
I'll have no idea where I'm going without you, anyway. I'm crap at reading maps.
no subject
It shouldn't be hard to find something. But...are you sure this is all right?
[Who is he even going to tell them she is?]
no subject
[Maybe it’d be weird, but it’s not like everything about their family wasn’t already. The little none would accept it pretty easy. For his mother and the other Wanda, well, at least this one had a way of proving it wasn’t a lie.]
You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to let you meet them.
no subject
[Because while yes, she can prove things...meeting your alternate universe self or daughter or sister is pretty heavy.]
I want to meet them, but...I'm nervous. And I haven't seen my mother since-- [Her throat tightens and Wanda bites her lip. Peter saw it; she doesn't need to explain.] What if they don't like me?
[A silly fear, perhaps, but when you have so little family left...]
no subject
[He grabs at her hand, trying to impart some comfort. He can understand her fear. It's a strange situation all around, but he thinks it might be worth the initial awkwardness to give her back something like what she once had.]
Our baby sister is going to go nuts over you. She's probably going to make you wear her crown and try to braid your hair and adore the fact there's a girl in the house that actually pays attention to her. Mom might take some convincing, but she's our mom. If she wouldn't turn me away for all the shit I've caused, she won't turn you away either. Hell, she'll be thrilled that some version of her kid actually turned out responsible. The other Wanda will be the hardest to convince, but I know how to talk to her. She'll be asking for make-up tips in no time.
They're going to love you. I know that because I do and I know them. Trust me.

How old is the baby?
[He's got some ideas on what they could get and Ben has no reason not to follow Peter's rules. He'll follow him home, since he doesn't know this place, play nice with his sisters, and has no powers to speak of.]
We should get her a toy or some kind of treat.
no subject
[He says it in a distracted sort of way, chewing his lip while weighing his options. Having Ben around meant he likely couldn’t get away with stealing a present, which nixed getting anything nice. Or much of anything at all. Maybe he could pickpocket someone and Ben wouldn’t notice.]
Right. She’s got a sweet tooth, like me. Maybe we should get some candy.
[He pauses, stands straighter.]
Just one thing. Do you care about walking or can I run us there? Kind of a big place around, but some people kind of find the running weird.
no subject
[Which only changed what they got a little bit. No teething rings or toys geared towards infants.]
Definitely candy. Most kids like it, so it'd be hard to disappoint with that.
[Ben pauses, looking over at Peter with a raised brow.]
You'll have to explain running us there. If it's faster, then why not, but what exactly does that entail?
no subject
[He had a hand in raising her. To Peter she was always going to be the baby.]
True. Not like she's not used to me bringing her sweets anyway.
[He grins, taking the slightly skeptical look in stride.]
It means you try to stay still and keep from getting sick. I hold your neck to prevent whiplash and kind of carry you there. Won't take but a few seconds, but from what I'm told it kind of takes longer for your stomach to settle after.

[Wrapped up in a scarf, hat, mittens, and overlarge sunglasses, Sans barely looks like himself. Which, supposedly, is kinda the point. Still, to a skeleton who valued comfort at a premium, the disguise was starting to chafe against his bones.
The surface was, in a word, amazing. Bright skies, green grass, cars, houses with yards, it was almost too good to be true -- a twofold feeling of awe and mild bitterness. That bitterness, at least, was cancelled out by seeing Papyrus' enthusiasm rocket them from place to place.
Peter was patient and kind, facilitating their immersion with a warm maturity that Sans felt proud to see. Times had been... difficult recently, for Peter and for the entire ship. If anyone deserved a break, it was the kid.
So when Peter suggested visiting his own family, the one Sans heard him gush about more than once, the skeleton immediately agreed. Crummy disguise and all.]
Well? What're you waiting for, kid. [He tips his glasses down just enough to let Peter see him wink.] No fear.
no subject
[He’s not wrong. It’s not like it’s Peter’s first trip through and the weird loop of time never seemed to alert the little girl that he’d been gone all that long. If anything she probably found the constant candy bars and princess dolls more confusing than his absence. More besides, she was still at that age where she acted like Peter could do no wrong. He’s her clear cut favorite, no bribery required.
He turns and gives Sans a sheepish smile. He’s sure the man understand the need to overindulge a younger sibling. He’s pretty sure that’s what most of this day had been about; Peter’s offer to show off his world turned to Sans indulging Papyrus’s desire to see everything Peter could think to show them.
It’d been kind of nice, to stop and try to see the world through their eyes. To feel like his small effort had an impact, that he’d done something good for people he liked. A very small token of thanks to Sans for all that loyalty.
But now it was time to go home.]
Want me to run you in or are you going to do your little trick? Because if you do, aim for the basement. Mom sees you just pop out of nowhere, she’s going to throw something. She’s done it to me a few dozen times.
no subject
You don't have a dog, do you? [Sans winks, already stepping away from the front stoop.] Kidding.
no subject
I wouldn't have already warned you. [He laughs.] Just meet me inside.
[He pulls his goggles down over his eyes and takes off. He makes a pit stop, scooping up a little girl from the living room, before he deposits her on the couch in his basement. The child will be calm about the whole thing, curling up in Peter's lap and continuing to play with the doll in hand like this is a daily occurrence. She doesn't even look up immediately when Sans enters the room, though Peter does and points to the little girl with excited gestures.]

Home!
[Allison is definitely following Peter home. She's eager to see what sort of people managed to survive being this kid's blood relations. Honestly, Peter, she loves you like a brother, but you are a real handful.
She rubs self-consciously at her forehead.]
I should have brought a hat or something... I don't want to look like That White Girl With A Bindi.
no subject
[He'd met someone who claimed to be from his future and that had pretty much throw out any idea Peter thought he had about how the Ingress worked. Questioning it seem too hard at this point.]
When? It should be 1973. It was when I left.
[He'll ignore the small stab of panic that it's been months or years of even a decade in this timeline. He'll cross that bridge when and if he comes to it.
He turns and frowns at Allison, watching her rub her head.]
You got a headache or something? What's a bindi?
no subject
The 70s didn't have internet did they? Great. So I guess, like, we find a newspaper to check the date or something?
[They could ask, but then somebody might think they're crazy. Allison probably already looks a bit out of place in her 2010 future fashion - not that it's especially fashionable even then.]
What? No, the thing in my head, it looks like a bindi. It's like, this dot that Indian people wear?

He can't stop his head swivelling in every direction, utterly amazed at everything he sees. It's so busy, so big-- he's never seen anything like it, not even Central has anything on this.]
Huh?
[Oh, right. His attention finally comes back to Peter, a little sheepish.]
Right, a gift sounds like a great idea, maybe some clothes? Babies always need clothes.
no subject
She's got like a hundred princess dresses already and I know that's all she'll want. I think she's going through a phase. It's all call me 'your highness' and hitting people with a wand.
[It's clear he's not talking about an actual baby by this point.
He gives Alphonse a look over.]
I wonder if we can even fit you inside a store entrance.
no subject
[He might be giving off an air of pouting slightly, because he so can fit inside a store entrance as long as he hunkers down a bit.]
Is she your sister? Or-- niece, maybe? She sounds really sweet.
[It's actually refreshing and pleasant to hear of a kid actually acting like a kid, being into dresses and make believe, not being traumatised and hurt.]

Besides, exploring new places is far more fun, especially if there's something to be gained from it. He adjusts the cold gun holster on his hip and casts a sideways smirk toward the speedster at his side.]
Whatever you say, kid. I plan on picking up a few things myself. Know anyplace interesting we might stop?
no subject
[Peter laughs, spares a moment to wonder if he should change plans for returning home and just let Leonard hit up DC. But after the incident at the Pentagon, surely the civilian areas had to be crawling with cops looking for Erik.]
We’ve got the standard malls around here. Some fancier shops if you don’t mind running to the nicer neighborhoods. We’re pretty close to DC, but we might find some trouble there.
no subject
Trouble? What kind? [Len doesn't necessarily want to go looking for trouble, but if it finds him, well... he could always stand to blow off a little steam.]

While she didn’t exactly feel particularly ‘homesick’ anymore she did miss New York. The scenery, sounds, smells, the people. True, her life there had been as far from glamour as possible but the city had been her dream and she still couldn’t help but love just the thought of it. But still, so much had happened and there was still too many complicated feelings that made the idea of getting up and going out insurmountable.
But when Peter had suggested that she’d go with him J found herself answering ‘yes’ without a hesitation. So, for the first time since her resurgence (a time that felt like an eternity to her) she combed and styled her hair, painted her face with the make up and put on the skin-tight black dress and red heels she had arrived with. And for a moment she looked like her normal self.
With a bag hanging around her shoulder, she carefully steps through the portal and takes his hands to her own. She scans their surroundings quickly, trying to hide her nervousness before turning to look up to him and raising her eyebrow, giving him a questioning look.
How is he planning to get them there? ]
no subject
We're going to find a map first, so you can show me where I'm going. And then we're off.
[He laughs lightly, pulling her with him toward the station and bumping her shoulder with his. He keeps a eye on her, watching every movement and facial expression for non-verbal cues. He's used to filling silences, he's always liked the sound of his own voice. But in the few days that she'd been back, he's found he misses her's and misses her jokes, her teases. He won't say it aloud. He doesn't want to make her feel any worse about it than Peter knows she already must.
His job right now is to make her as happy as he can, try to make her life a little easier. It's the least he could do.]
I hope you meant it when you said you were okay with there being a next time for the running. Because that's the only way we're getting there without me having to steal a car. Which I can totally do, but honestly a lower profile might work best if you want time to really explore the city.
no subject
His words makes her frown, lips drawing slightly back making her pout a little. She doesn't mind him carrying her around, that's not the problem even though at this point she couldn't help but question his stamina. But to have her take look at the map? When she didn't even know where they were at the moment nor didn't have any idea whether the roads had changed within ten years or not.
She pauses and let's go off his hand, taking a quick look at the gas station ahead of them and then looking back at him. The more he tells about his plan the more awful does it sound and she's feeling a regret creeping to her mind.
She now wishes she had brought paper or something else to write on with her as using something like MID would stand out way too much in a environment like this.]
