[Backdated 8/25 - mini-GP open to team demilich or by request] is anyone dead?

Coming back to consciousness hurt, significantly more than Loki remembered hurting in recent memory. There didn't seem to be a single part of his body that wasn't in some kind of pain, and on top of that he became aware, very quickly, of an odd whistling emptiness that said too much magic. He couldn't even have called one of his knives.

All of that being the case, he didn't move. If the fight was still going on, he intended to stay down. For a little while. Until he had something to act with or on. Or until he legitimately passed out again; that seemed horribly likely, with the way his head was swimming and the warm-wet of blood flowing out instead of staying in.

The desert was essentially silent, though, for the definition of 'silence' that included the sounds of wind and ordinary movement. Footsteps. Voices.

He wasn't dead, then. Was anyone else?

Clarice - Open

[personal profile] st_rongernow 2018-09-02 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Clarice was tired. That was the understatement of the century. After checking on a few of her fellow fighters, she managed to make it to a nearby tree and just slumped against its sturdy back to rest. She just needed to catch her breath or sleep for a week, either would work.

After resting and a little (okay a lot) of help getting to the Inn, Clarice crashed on the couch in the lobby. She was just going to rest. God she felt like she was eighty and needed to rest after walking a bit. Maybe she'd invest in a wheeled walker and make her way around the inn. That was just a smart ass thought but one that sadly was a bit appealing at the moment.

Clarice looks tired.

Thor makes note of that when he sits down in a chair across from her couch. He plans on waiting around until she wakes up, but he realizes once he's settled that she is actually awake.

Thor leans forward, arms folded over his knees and smiles despite it all.

"How are you holding up?"

"Just peachy." Her lips curved upward but she didn't move from her spot. Clarice's head turned so that she could see Thor though. "Looks like you had fun."

She did, too but she was too tired to share the smile.

"Fun is probably too strong of a word," he says. His smile dims a little, but it's still there.

"Have you seen a healer yet?"

"Don't really need one. Just need to rest. The portals sucked my energy dry." Clarice settled back against the cushions. "If there was something really wrong with me, my portals would open all over the place and do serious damage."

She let her gaze roam over him, "you get healed?" Clarice knew that injuries didn't always show on the outside.

"I'm self-healing," Thor says, giving a his bicep several healthy claps, as if to demonstrate his hardiness. "I was once hit by the full strength of a neutron star, and yet, here I am, alive and well."

Thor keeps on smiling.

"I know, that all happened," Thor says, good-naturedly. "The forge at Nidavellir needed to be lit again in order for us to forge Stormbreaker, but the iris broke and I had to hold it open. It's the closest I've come to dying in almost a decade, so whatever that thing out there was --"

Thor gestures vaguely to the outside, then sinks to the back of the couch.

"-- compared to that, it was nothing," he says, with considerable less bravado.

Clarice whistled. It was as close as she could get to reacting to what Thor said. It took the less amount of energy. "I can see how battling a skull kind of pales to that."

"Thanks for having that last bit." Clarice chuckled softly and shifted her weight on the couch. "And thanks for saving my ass. We make a pretty good team."

She didn't just mean her and Thor, though that was strongly implied. She meant all of them that fought the skull.

Tony collapsed in a chair adjacent to the sofa Clarice sat in. After some emergency treatment courtesy of Loki and a little more stabilization help (arm in a sling, torso in a wrap) he was certain he needed more but while as long as he was lucky to be conscious, he was going to spend the ATP on checking in with the folks who had his back.

"Let me get you a drink. If you're dry I'll get you something else." He paused--cutting to the chase took it out of him. "Tony, by the way. Tony Stark. I really admired the way you, ah, repeatedly opened wormholes to teach Bonejangles a lesson."

"I haven't been dry since I was probably fourteen." Clarice smirked, "and I'm a cheap date. I like any alcohol, buyer's choice." She shifted slightly to get more comfortable before she continued. "I'm Clarice, and thanks. Your kick ass suit, kicked ass, and saved mine more than a few times. You design it yourself?"

Clarice's laid back energy in the aftermath put Tony at ease, and he leaned back into the chair.

"Clarice. Beautiful--with an appreciation for economics, no less." He winked, and hoped it wasn't too pained. "Drafted, funded, designed, and built all by yours truly. This is the fiftieth iteration, but clearly that are some hinks to work out. Got lovingly abducted by the hotel before I could do much testing back at my lab."

He nodded at her. "Enough about me. Holding up on your end?"

"Well then you could consider this a field test for your suit." She smiled slightly. "And yeah. I just need to sleep for about a month." It was more like a week but right now it felt like a month.

"I'll be good. You guys took the brunt more thank I did."

Tony fiddled uselessly with a few strands of his thoroughly-disheveled hair before letting his arm flop back down. Even just keeping his limbs suspended was a feat.

"Comes with the territory." He forced his arm back up to gesture at Clarice. "Mind if I ask how you got so good with the portal generation? If not, we can plan our 'We're Only Half-Dead' after party."

"Would you think less of me if I said dumb luck?" Clarice smiled slightly and pushed her hair behind her ear, which exposed the pointed tip that also said she was a mutant.

"You get better at running away when you're being hunted for being different." She said honestly with only a hint of bitter. "When your abilities just appear, you try to figure them out as best you can. Which is why it's generally dumb luck you get better at it."

"Trial by fire. I'm no stranger." He really wasn't. An extended stay in a cave surrounded by terrorists who wouldn't wait for the shrapnel cozying up in your pericardium to kill you first would give you that perspective.

"Can't chalk all that panache to sheer dumb luck. Give yourself a smidgen of credit."

"Thinking on the fly helps a lot. I've never done a portal with a magical barrier, we don't have magic where I'm from. Well we do, but it's pull a rabbit out of its hat kind." She gave him a quick grin, "I'm kick ass at improvising."

"Well. Teammate with a wallet. Sponsor. Sugar Daddy. Whatever you want to call the guy who pays for everything, designs everything, and makes everyone look cooler." Tony winked. A self-indulgent thought flashed through his mind of rebuilding the brand, as it were, at the hotel. "Granted, I've been in retirement, and getting my head split is probably a sign I should stop living like it."

"Sometimes it takes a knock on the head to get your head back in the game." Clarice knows that from experience. "And I don't see you in real retirement, because if you had, you wouldn't have had a new cool suit with you when you were yanked here. Unlike me that my cool talent comes with me wherever I go, you have to be using yours."
