[GP/EP] Check-In Day
Why Caroline had needed her to help with Check-In Day she hadn't bothered to say. Just, "you said you'd help," and when Regina protested she wasn't good with people, "aren't you a Queen or a Mayor or something?" complete with shooing gestures. While Regina found Caroline more exasperating the terrifying, she did have a point.
So Regina suited up--literally, gathered her files and folders, coffee mug, pens and pocketed the wooden carving of Henry/Roland Robin had made for her, then headed for the cafe. If, polished and politic and patently Busy, she didn't offer newcomers the brightest or warmest smile when they arrived, it was nevertheless confident and quite possibly reassuring.
Caroline did friendly. Regina...did knowledgeable and polite. Dot and Ignis had been asked to provide finger food on catering trays. The still-grieving Miss Pryde had been tasked with samovars of tea and coffee and ice chest of soda and beer. Caroline's welcome baskets sat on the table beside Regina's for easy access. And though she didn't when she was alone in the office, Regina spent the magic to fix her eyesight so she didn't put glasses between her and new arrivals.
Madame Mayor was in.

Merrill - OTA
Her fingers ran over the smooth cool lacquered wood of the bar. It was- Oh it was so lovely. Disturbing, yes, but lovely. She was sure Isabela would have a few things to say about it. Varric as well. She could almost picture her friends sitting at a corner table, drinking and laughing. That felt like so long ago.
She got a drink and went to sit at the table she knew Hawke would've chosen so she could sip at it and people watch. It wouldn't do to get drunk, not when there was so much here when there were so many people to meet. Her heart ached for a familiar face. She didn't think that would be likely and if it were she knew her own luck. If anyone were to come to her here, it'd be Mahariel to compound her guilt for what happened to their clan. Still, she'd be overjoyed to see him no matter how much pain it brought.
Re: Merrill - OTA
He found a spot at the bar and pulled Madam Fluffy out of his coat, setting her down so she could stretch her four tiny legs a bit as he waited for a barkeep. While waiting and occasionally petting he happened to glance at the people around him, or rather he happened to glance at Merrill.
He blinked once at the sight of her then couldn't help what fell out of his mouth next. "Andraste's burning knickers. Merrill?" Anders, surprise to him, was very pleased to see her. Really he would have done with any familiar face but as he hadn't seen another until now he was mildly thrilled. "What in the Maker's name are you doing here of all places?"
Re: Merrill - OTA
Merrill couldn't stop herself from grinning broadly at the sound of his voice. She also couldn't stop herself from running over and hugging him. It'd been... It'd been too long. None of their past arguments mattered. She'd been- Well, she'd been so worried about him. About them both.
"I only just got here not a few hours ago. I was- I suppose it doesn't matter, does it? I'm here now. Are you okay? Is Hawke? Is anyone else here? I'm sorry. I didn't even think to ask."
Re: Merrill - OTA
"It's just me and the cat." he nodded to the kitten who was cautiously sniffing the air in Merrill's direction. "Varric, I don't know if you heard or not, joined up with some religious organization. They're supposed to be dealing with that green thing in the sky. Anyway, Corypheus is apparently involved so he wrote to Hawke and of course she went. That was a few weeks ago I suppose. I was headed off to the shops this morning and suddenly I'm here instead."
Re: Merrill - OTA
"Corypheus is dead, though, isn't he? We...we killed him." And joining up with a religious organization didn't sound at all like Varric, but she supposed there was probably more to it than that. There always was with him.

Re: Merrill - OTA
"I'm sorry," she said, "I know you would've wanted to go with her." They all would've.
"Is your room nice at least? I heard they were all different. Mine's very fancy, looks like it ought to belong to some little Orlesian noble up in a tower."
Re: Merrill - OTA
"I haven't seen it yet though I was given a key. I thought I needed to get her tended to first." He rubbed his cat's chin. "Poor thing hasn't had a thing to drink in a while."
Re: Merrill - OTA
"If you'd like, of course."
Re: Merrill - OTA
He made a kissing noise at his cat before he picked her up and held her in his arms, "That would be nice, I think she and I could use a proper rest. I don't really recognize the writing around here though, do you understand it?"
Re: Merrill - OTA
She moved away from the bar and then paused, looking around before she stole a bottle of something. If anyone had earned some time drinking, it was the pair of them. Celebration and mourning all in one.
"Did they say what room you were in? The man at the desk. Do you think he's tranquil? He certainly acts like it, poor dear."
Re: Merrill - OTA
"One four two." He shook his head. "He didn't have the brand and he didn't seem as emotionless as he did... Disinterested? I don't know. He didn't feel tranquil." He was sure he would know a tranquil when he met them, they were relatively easy to spot."

"There. This one's my friend's. So yours should be somewhere close by, right?"

Re: Merrill - OTA
He pulled the key from where he'd hidden it in his coat and he offered it to her. "Just try the door. If I run screaming you may just have to deal with me sleeping at the foot of your bed for a while."
Re: Merrill - OTA
"I didn't say you'd be afraid, just that you wouldn't like it very much. No need to be cranky about it." She walked back over to Rey's room and the door next to hers.

Re: Merrill - OTA
For a moment or two he was quiet as he looked over the colors and the bed and the rock. Eventually he burst out laughing. "By the Maker. Justice lived in the fade, saw all the weird and terrible colors there and yet he hates this. Absolutely hates the look of this room."
Re: Merrill - OTA
"You know, for once I agree with Justice," she said, following him in and letting the door shut behind her.
