BUILDING 90

She hates the fact that she's practically doubled over in front of Alfie, who she likes, but who she's not exactly comfortable with seeing her in such a vulnerable state yet. Fiona grits her teeth and straightens with a hiss, pushing her shoulders back. She's fine.]
Fucking monsters.
[Not super fine.]

There's not much furniture to block the door.
[His voice is tight, but he's thinking clearly, and he's not panicking. He leaves the table where it is - the rest of the house is ruined, and the anomaly could still get to them through there if it tried - and focuses instead on the chairs, stacking them up against the other door.
With the way they'd been lying haphazardly on the floor, it's possible that somebody had already tried to use them for this. If that's the case, clearly they hadn't been enough.]
no subject
Guess we might have to hold it if that thing comes after us.
no subject
Of course, even if they were both in tip-top shape, there's no way they could hold a door shut against an anomaly.]
Backs against the door all night, eh?
no subject
[Her words are clipped, and she's trying to keep her breathing deep and even rather than shallow and quick. That just means each breath hurts more, of course. Fiona lets her pack slide off of her shoulder and fall to the floor unceremoniously.]

Alfie drops his bags too, then gingerly eases himself down onto the floor - in front of the door, next to the chairs. He closes his eyes, catching his breath for a moment before opening them again to look at her wearily.]
The ribs?
no subject
I'm fine.
no subject
[He closes his eyes again.]
no subject
Nothing we can do about it anyway.
no subject
[He nods at his bags.]
Strong stuff. I chop 'em up.
no subject
What kind of painkillers?

no subject
Was it a deal?
no subject
Sit down, yeah?
[He shifts to the side, giving her more room.]
no subject
He's addicted to it, you know.
no subject
[He hadn't known for sure, but he'd suspected.]
Like I said, strong stuff. I'm careful with it. A third or fourth of a pill takes the worst of the edge off.
no subject
[She's quiet for a moment, considering it, but she doesn't think he'll screw her over if she gets a bit loopy. Fiona sighs, the breath coming out slow.]
Sure. Give it to me.

no subject
Thanks.
no subject
[He settles against the door again, wedging his messenger bag behind his back. It's twinging him more than usual because of the run, but not bad enough to make him want to resort to the pills.]
-- Quiet outside.
[So that's good news.]
no subject
[She leans back too, waiting for the pill to kick in and trying, stubbornly, to ignore the ache in her side and shoulder.]
no subject
[Which definitely makes him frown a little deeper. He cares about Tifa.]
