I. Rock Around The Clock
Being that this party is for the opening of a music store, it makes sense that the main feature of the night is a dance floor! Music from throughout the 1950s will be playing, both in the store itself as well as the large loft above that has been converted into a miniature sockhop for everyone in attendence. Records and streamers hang from the ceilings and there is a lot of black, white, and pink to be seen. There's also a small stage in one corner set up for anyone brave enough to pick up one of the guitars that usually adorn the shop downstairs, as well as several microphone stands that are hooked up to a karaoke machine. Come in and dance the night away! Anyone wearing era-appropriate attire will random prizes.
II. All Shook Up
Being that this is a Magnus party, there is a wide range of cocktails to sample being made at the open bar. Most of them are were what was popular at the time—Manhattans, Old Fashioneds, the classic Gin & Tonic—but requests for specialty drinks are being taken as well. There are also, in true 50s style, milkshakes that are creamy enough to tempt even those who would usually try to resist. But there's a twist: they're alcoholic. None will be served to minors, but it's totally possible that the adults won't realized their delicious treats are spiked until after they've had their second (or third) glass. Also, though the upper loft is well-lit for dancing, the first-floor store has plenty of dark corners for making bad decisions. So grab your honey, grab a drink, and enjoy the night together.
III. Tutti Frutti
Half of the upper loft is dedicated to refreshments as well as boasting furniture looks like it was ripped from a diner—you guessed it, chrome with red vinyl upholstery. A table along one wall is ladden with miniature versions of popular diner food— cheeseburgers, hot dogs, even tuna melts—as well as french fries and plenty of other finger food. And, because this is the 1950s, there's jello. Lots of jello. So much jello that it's insane, how can anyone love jello this much? Luckily, if you don't go ape over gelatine-based desserts, there are also record-shaped cookies and non-alcoholic milkshakes for the kiddies. Seeing as this is a small town with families, and thus minors, there are plenty of drink options for those who aren't yet old enough to drink or who prefer not to.
IV. La Bamba
No invite is necessary, IC or OOC, for anyone who'd like to jump in and join the party! It's safe to assume that flyers have been up around town to announce the time and place. Hopefully, with enough people in attendance throughout the night, there's plenty of chances to make friends (or maybe enemies). Feel free to choose your own adventure, and don't worry about boundaries—if it doesn't break the game, it won't break this party post! But be aware that your hosts, one of whom is a warlock and the other a demon hunter, won't stand for any altercations inside the store. Instead, maybe take it outside if the mood or your ex-girlfriend strike you. If you'd like to assume that you're helping run the party—bartending, music playing, etc—go nuts and have fun!

Damon Salvatore l open l i'm what you make me only to take me
But, like any couple, they don't spend all night with one another.
Damon mingles like it's his job, brushing off any questions into his demeanor the day before. Things happen, they all have days.
When not by the bar where he spends most of the night, he peruses the paraphernalia, doesn't touch the jello, and avoids the plastic-looking furniture. When he realizes he's taken to a dark corner alone, he decides to stop channeling his brother and return to the party.
If asked to dance, he obliges. Keeping up appearances means maintaining friendships he doesn't trust. He dials down on the flirtation-ships he's been keeping up, but he's no less charming. Elena may not be able to hear his every word, or anyone else's for that matter, but that doesn't mean he will give her any reason to not trust him. By design, Damon and Katherine gravitate back to one another several times throughout the night, mingling and playing along with their public personas.
He manages to keep the vest on all night thanks to his lower body temperature. Eventually, his sunglasses rest atop his head, the longer the night goes on. ]

For a moment, nothing happens. Then there's the voice of a young man telepathically transferred to his head.]
You have a core too.

He's mid sip, the bottle to his lips. Eyeing the cat only for a moment, he swallows, and then looks to his right. Someone else is mid-conversation with someone who isn't him, and they're not talking about a core. He looks to his left. He furrows his brow, concerned. Is he remembering something? ]

Catching Damon on the dance floor during one of the slower songs, Magnus pushes a drink into one hand and grabs the other one to settle it on his waist. Two men slow-dancing together isn't entirely appropriate for the era, but that's one convention that Magnus is happy to break.] My my, don't you look handsome tonight. [Grinning, he reaches for the sunglasses on top of his head and puts them on himself.] Elvis would roll in his grave with delight if he saw you sporting his name.

Damon's moving through the crowd. He doesn't ask for a drink, but he'll take it. Nor does he ask for the dance, but this is Magnus. Everything with Magnus is infused with genuine affection for the guy and his husband. The longer he lives here the easier it is to accept these fleeting connections he can't trust. It's that Magnus is closer to his real age than the age he died that he lets his guard down around him.
Damon's lived a long time. He may not have danced with a man before, but a dance is a dance. ] Better than an article about dying near his toilet. [ Too much, right? Better that it's more vague. RIP Elvis Presley. ] Am I handsome or do you just like that my pants match your jacket.

Also, he's happy to be a first for someone as old as Damon.] Or all of his middle-aged impersonators in Vegas. [Magnus shivers at the thought.] Only the King could pull off a white bedazzled jumpsuit.
[Grinning, he draped an arm over Damon's shoulder and sipped from his glass.] Am I allowed to say both? There's no harm in dancing with someone who literally compliments my outfit.

Laughing softly, he shakes his head.] Oh darling, I hope those aren't some tragically seventeenth-century views you hold. One would have hoped they died with you in 1864. [Clearly as playful, if his smile is anything to go by.]

Laughing at Damon's assurance, Magnus pulls down the sunglasses he's wearing to level a look at him.] I'd believe it. Your wife is definitely what I'd call a strong woman.

Keeping an eye on at least three other people regularly as she enjoys herself? Not out of the normal for Katherine, but she hasn't felt compelled to do so, with quite such a strong urge, since waking up there in town. Elena, who, she wishes could stay a nonissue. Then, naturally, Stefan, and definitely Damon. She knows enough to know that timing is everything with broaching the...intense subjects of late. Picking and prodding never works.
It's when she notices Damon emerging from a quiet spot, once again, that she draws closer as he steps back to the bar. She lets her arm brush against him, settling in closer for a moment. ] Looks like the throwback's a hit. [ Yes, people seem to be enjoying themselves, and she gives a cursory glance around the room. Does Damon order a drink? Katherine waits for him to or not, taking her glass, letting it rise to her lips before whispering across its rim, for Damon's ears, as she looks back out over the crowd. ] Maybe not everyone, though, huh, Damon? [ Maybe he's enjoying himself, to an extent, but he knows what she's getting at here. ] Do I get to know what's going on with you, or are we going to...jitterbug until sunrise instead? [ Then she looks over, taking a sip, eyeing him carefully.
Her expression isn't necessarily unkind. Desiring to know what's up, from his viewpoint. She and Stefan didn't exactly do a lot of...talking, not about this. Or, in general, but. Details. Also, because she's Katherine and can't help herself... ] You could cut the tension with a knife, you know. [ Obviously. ]
no subject
Dislike for Katherine predominantly outweighs fond feelings created in this town, but he makes real effort when she speaks not to directly dismiss her. It's not that he's concerned about how she feels (it's been months since show-and-tell, he's over that) but, it still feels like the wrong impulse. He knows underneath her exterior, she thinks she's helping. Maybe she's curious and maybe that music from Stefan's room masked their deep conversation, but Katherine asking about the brother's divide answers that, doesn't it?
He turns, in kind, looking out at the crowd. ] You should get a knife, then. You never know when one of these nights will go sideways. [ Like every event ever. In Mystic Falls, anyway. He leans his head as he talks, looking to her and then back at the crowd. ] You don't dance, Katherine, which leaves one choice between the two. One, I assumed you'd know the answer to, or did your closed-door music appreciation session last night not lead to one of your signature Stefan-Katherine heart to hearts? What could you possibly have been doing?
no subject
She makes a sound, acknowledging but wry, over his suggestion of her acquiring a knife. ] That sounds a little double-edged, Damon, but I can look past it. [ And whatever he implied -- she really does. Negative comments, of any variety, aren't uncommon from him when aimed at her, especially not when he's in mood.
Her brows lift, nope she doesn't dance, and then he goes on. One brow rises again. ] This is about you [ one hand comes over, gently touching a finger to his chest ] and Stefan, Damon. Not me and Stefan. Does it have to do with something else you told him about with these...handy memories you got? Or [ her nose scrunches ] well -- we didn't do a lot of talking once we got home, and his mood is even worse than yours. But that doesn't mean I don't wanna know, Damon. I care. [ She. Does. ]
no subject
[ Double-edged. ]
He found something out he shouldn't know, and he's taking it personally. I think this town likes us separated. When it took us from, now this.
no subject
Then, she casts a look over. ] What did he find out? [ As if he doesn't know that's the next step in this conversation. ] Who did what this time?
no subject
no subject
She listens, looking over. ] A letter from there showed up here? Really. [ Well, that's interesting in and of itself. Anyway. ] So you willfully abandoned your brother, your friends, because you couldn't stand not having Elena around. Wow. [ She blinks, once, twice and breathes in. ] He knows what extent you go to when you love someone, and. You'll both be together again. In...three years, apparently. [ She's not an expert on their future, but she garners detail as she goes. ] Stefan always comes around to understanding, Damon. He'll, get over this, I know he will. [ It seems so small in the pool of personal affronts Damon's committed. ]

Since you and Magnus had a turn around the dance floor, I'm guessing you're the one he spent the evening playing two truths and a lie with.

Damon's by for a refill. He has a high tolerance and a specific taste that Magnus seems to be providing for. But, this isn't Magnus behind the bar, but his husband. ]
You're right, as good a guess as that was. He could've just liked my pants. [ But, it was that also. ] I'm guessing your husband was quite the handful when he came home last night. I guess I should take the credit. I've always been able to drink him under the table.
no subject
He probably does like the pants, but that wouldn't be enough for the slow dance. [He has the feeling that before they'd arrived in town, he would have been jealous but now he's happy that Magnus has been making friends. Or maybe he'd found an old friend that doesn't seem to hate Alec?]
He's always a handful, but he was more excited than usual.
[Blinking slowly at Damon, he tries to process the idea of someone able to drink Magnus under the table. The thought boggles the mind.] I didn't think anyone could out drink him.
no subject
Hm. [ Alec knows his husband well. It's almost like they're actually husbands and not people thrown together, not that the two of them come off as mortal enemies, or even enemies at all. ] There's a first time for everything. [ It seems Magnus hasn't shared Damon's age with Alec. Well, that works in his favor. ]
Then again, I may just be good at that game. I know we both lost track of what we drank. [ Nothing to see here. ] How long have you two been married?
[ One of his double-edged questions. Are they really. ]
no subject
No, Alec is not going to question Magnus' interest in Damon. His earlier conversation with Izzy had nothing to do with Magnus straying. It'd been about a subject that Alec will puzzle over later.]
If it was just because you were good at the game, you wouldn't have drank Magnus under the table. [Magnus had told him enough to be curious... and amused. Better that Damon keeps up with Magnus' drinking than Alec since he didn't seem to be immune to hangovers.] We've been married a few months. Dated a few weeks before that.

Only a few weeks. Whirlwind. Where'd you meet?
