[So the bodyswapping hijinks were only a slightly painful disaster and while he and James swapped back, things were a little awkward for him and Dave right after. He's working to make up for it and he spends the next day or two spoiling Dave as much as possible to make up for it.
Saturday is spent at home and spending their day together, low-key and alone as John re-calibrated himself back in his own body. Movies and a pizza and curling up as close as possible while his mind sorted through the last couple of days.
The next evening though meant it was the 12th and their eight-month anniversary and now that John finally caught on to the fact that they always have a date on the 12th, he goes about making sure the balcony is perfectly set up before going through the house to track down his wayward boyfriend.
Eventually, he finds him and floats over to him to drape himself over Dave's back and kiss his cheek.]
So...some cool guy I know told me about this meteor shower that's supposed to be happening tonight. Check it out with me?
[ honestly dave spent the reorientation time hanging off of john after an awkward half day of being a little wary like a cat who'd been hosed down with water to scare him off the counter. he got over it quickly enough but the period of hesitation had existed painfully, a far cry from how he usually orbited john's free space when they were together.
john finds his boyfriend in the music room that was once a study, working with his turn tables. he hums and tugs his headphones down when john drapes, leaning back into his boyfriend and tilting his head to the side. ]
Maybe. You sure you don't wanna go with this cool guy you know instead? [ it's an obvious joke. he starts to shut down what he's got going on, not complaining that having someone draped on his back makes this more difficult. ]
[Draping. He's comfortable here and he does nothing to help this process along. The weird adjustment period was a little too much for him and he finds himself grateful that things are more or less normal again. He keeps his arms around Dave's frame and watches over his shoulder instead.]
Maybe if you don't hurry up. [Also an obvious joke.] What're you working on anyway?
Just messing around, really. It's a setlist for a club in the event I ever need one? It's been months since I had a gig - anyway. [ he gets things fairly shut down and drags john's right wrist up to kiss. ] Tell me more about this date you're trying to seduce me into?
I seem to be the one carrying you, actually. But okay, you've got me curious. [ he drops john's hand and reaches back to hook his hands under john's knees instead, if john cooperates. ]
I've given you a ride before? [ there's a huff of laughter when john nuzzles against his neck, and dave heads out of the study, shutting the door behind him with his foot so mewpac can't get in amongst the expensive music equipment. ] You can carry me back to bed tonight if you really wanna.
I'll probably want to, yeah. [He's comfortable here though and he lets Dave carry him along.] It has been eight months, Dave. We should both carry our own weight in this relationship.
[He's definitely teasing though given he's kissing the juncture between Dave's neck and shoulder almost immediately after that.]
I'm gonna drop you on your ass if you keep that up. [ no he isn't. if anything, he adjusts his grip so it's more secure, although john kissing his neck is distracting in a lowkey way.
they're at the balcony door and he manages to get one hand free to open it up. ]
Sounds fake. [He holds on tighter anyway. Up to the balcony they go and Dave opens the door. The balcony is set up with a few blankets, a picnic basket, a telescope, his keyboard, and a few strings of white Christmas lights looped around the barrier of the balcony for extra mood lighting. One of Dave's cameras is also already set up there.]
I am pretty sure if you dropped me you would feel bad.
[He floats like the dumb balloon he is and doesn't mind at all.]
I'm not sure what you were expecting, but given I am the one who planned this date, yeah. [He rubs the back of his neck a little sheepishly.] Food's in the basket and the settings on the telescope should be fine.
[ dave remembers belatedly that sometimes john still gets nervous about romance things being "dorky" or "lame" even if dave never means it badly.
he turns and tugs on john's collar, dragging the balloon down to kiss him on the cheek. ]
Thanks. [ ...maybe he should give the full honest reaction even if it's embarrassing - john is worth the effort. ] I love it. Really. But I'm in charge next month, okay?
[A gentle laugh follows as Dave kisses his face and he lands on the ground.] Sure thing. I will look forward to it. [He'll also take his hand to lead him to the blankets.] When's the shower supposed to start anyway?
Okay that was also after being separated for weeks? That is totally different. [But he's moving to open the picnic basket instead. It's nothing fancy, just a waldorf salad and some apple pastries and apple cider.
