hypospraying: (scared ○ slice through your heart)

001 | [voice]

[After finding her clothes and things, Christine is tiptoeing through the ship, expecting an enemy around every corner. But when she comes to the hatch that leads out, she feels a rush of relief. Slipping outside, she takes in her surroundings, and then tries the communicator in her hand -- one that looks so much like one from the Enterprise that she assumes she can reach her ship.]

Chapel to Enterprise. I'm at an unknown location. I was captured and placed in some sort of stasis pod. Requesting you beam me up immediately.

[She waits, and nothing happens. Nor is there any response from the transporter team. Uh oh.]

Enterprise, come in?

[More silence. Sighing, she begins to move away from the crashed ship, wondering if there's something about it that's blocking her signal. She looks curiously at the domed city in the distance, and the landscape surrounding her. Then she speaks to herself.]

Where am I?

[The "enterprise" bit sounds vaguely familiar, though Lyall couldn't guess from where. Still, he's awake, working on paperwork he had missed out on while recovering from the full moon. Some of it, to his mild amusement, even has his own name on it.

So since he's awake and catches the attempted communication and all, he replies.]

Your pardon, miss. But I'm afraid you quite likely very far from home. This planet is called Verdana, and no one yet who's arrived has heard of it. Are you all right?

A bit troubling, I know. When I came out of mine, I didn't have the faintest idea what it was, or what anything around me was. That structure you came from is a crashed space vessel of some sort, and there are people waking up on it fairly often. You ought to head down the mountain into that ruined city you see down there. Most of us are near the center, where the electricity and plumbing still function.

[He pauses, tilts his head at her with a little smile, and adds,]

The name is Randolph Lyall, by the way. How do you do.

Anywhere from roughly a century to... longer. That's just the estimate for how long that ship has been crashed on the planet.

[His voice is a little apologetic, but he does have some (possible) good news.]

But considering we all come from vastly different places and times, and even universes, it's quite possible we will be returned to where and when we were taken from.

We get that crashed vessel functional again. There are quite a few people working on the problem, between doing work needed around the city, though it isn't likely to occur very soon, I'm afraid.

[He remembers now where he's heard of the Enterprise.]

You do not happen to know a Doctor Leonard McCoy, do you?
professorwolf: (chuckle)

Oh, is that so.

[Lyall chuckles at that.]

I believe I know better than to say such a thing to Doctor McCoy, so I'll take that advice. So you are a doctor, as well? You would be welcome here: there is a hospital, if, according to Doctor McCoy, a primitive one.

It's better than it has been. There was a plague here, but your friend and a couple of the other doctors managed to put a stop to that. There are still plenty of injuries and smaller-scale illnesses to contend with, and a young native woman with no immune system, apparently.

And if you do come to work at the hospital, I suppose you will have to put up with me. I handle most of the scheduling and supply acquisition and patient organization and such.

[He never knew so much about hospitals until that blasted plague when he had to literally take over... ah well. At least he's being useful.]

I'll keep that in mind, thank you.

[Good luck. He's not a werewolf Beta for nothing, and he has the key to his office, these days, not Pepper. And this is the work he likes best here, for the most part, since the work he'd want most he couldn't do here. There aren't many political and governmental investigations to run in a post-apocalyptic world.]

Has anyone directed you to the Flop yet? Or are you heading for the hospital first?
professorwolf: (dubious)

[personal profile] professorwolf 2013-02-21 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Probably for the best, then. He can show you around-- if he thinks about it. If not, you can ask anyone for directions. The Flop is where most of the ship's compliment live, at least if and until they find somewhere else more to their liking. There is free food there, though not much, and the roof doesn't leak.

[Which is better than most of the city, really.]

Is this difficult? I have rarely seen him change moods.

[That was a joke, if a potentially hard to see one. Lyall does have a sense of humor. Sometimes.]

If you wish to drop by my office once Doctor McCoy is finished with you, for any gaps in your knowledge he might have forgotten to fill in, I should be here until about noon, and I will be back again tomorrow morning, early.
professorwolf: (gentleman)

I'll look forward to that, Miss Chapel. Good luck with the good doctor's mood.

[He isn't wearing his hat indoors, so he can't tip it, but he does incline his head with a polite smile.]
