001 | [voice]
[After finding her clothes and things, Christine is tiptoeing through the ship, expecting an enemy around every corner. But when she comes to the hatch that leads out, she feels a rush of relief. Slipping outside, she takes in her surroundings, and then tries the communicator in her hand -- one that looks so much like one from the Enterprise that she assumes she can reach her ship.]
Chapel to Enterprise. I'm at an unknown location. I was captured and placed in some sort of stasis pod. Requesting you beam me up immediately.
[She waits, and nothing happens. Nor is there any response from the transporter team. Uh oh.]
Enterprise, come in?
[More silence. Sighing, she begins to move away from the crashed ship, wondering if there's something about it that's blocking her signal. She looks curiously at the domed city in the distance, and the landscape surrounding her. Then she speaks to herself.]
Where am I?

So since he's awake and catches the attempted communication and all, he replies.]
Your pardon, miss. But I'm afraid you quite likely very far from home. This planet is called Verdana, and no one yet who's arrived has heard of it. Are you all right?

[He pauses, tilts his head at her with a little smile, and adds,]
The name is Randolph Lyall, by the way. How do you do.
I'm Christine Chapel, and I've been better.
[But still, this is better than being the only person here, besides those still in those pods.]
Thank you, though. Do you happen to know how long I might have been in that pod?
[His voice is a little apologetic, but he does have some (possible) good news.]
But considering we all come from vastly different places and times, and even universes, it's quite possible we will be returned to where and when we were taken from.
I see. How do we go about getting returned?
[He remembers now where he's heard of the Enterprise.]
You do not happen to know a Doctor Leonard McCoy, do you?
I do.
[And now she actually smiles.]
I'm the one who's really in charge of his medbay back home, but don't you go telling him I said that.
[Lyall chuckles at that.]
I believe I know better than to say such a thing to Doctor McCoy, so I'll take that advice. So you are a doctor, as well? You would be welcome here: there is a hospital, if, according to Doctor McCoy, a primitive one.
And if you do come to work at the hospital, I suppose you will have to put up with me. I handle most of the scheduling and supply acquisition and patient organization and such.
[He never knew so much about hospitals until that blasted plague when he had to literally take over... ah well. At least he's being useful.]
[She recognizes his duties as things she's performed herself. That makes her smile.]
I know about all that stuff, so if you ever need a hand, let me know?
[And she will try very hard not to take over and do it all herself. Really.]
[Good luck. He's not a werewolf Beta for nothing, and he has the key to his office, these days, not Pepper. And this is the work he likes best here, for the most part, since the work he'd want most he couldn't do here. There aren't many political and governmental investigations to run in a post-apocalyptic world.]
Has anyone directed you to the Flop yet? Or are you heading for the hospital first?
[Which is better than most of the city, really.]
[Christine likes to think she can easily decipher his moods, from surly, to cranky, to grumpy and beyond.]
Oh, well, this is a lot of information, but I guess I may as well stay there until I can think clearer about my future.
[That was a joke, if a potentially hard to see one. Lyall does have a sense of humor. Sometimes.]
If you wish to drop by my office once Doctor McCoy is finished with you, for any gaps in your knowledge he might have forgotten to fill in, I should be here until about noon, and I will be back again tomorrow morning, early.
I'll admit, the change in mood can be subtle. I swear I almost saw him smile once.
[It's possible she's joking too, but it would be plausible if she wasn't.]
Thank you. I'll probably stop in to see you, regardless if Dr. McCoy's instructions are lacking.
[He isn't wearing his hat indoors, so he can't tip it, but he does incline his head with a polite smile.]
