Event: Healing Waters
"Good morning passengers, it is day twenty three of the month of Grasshopper. All passengers of the Voidtrecker Express require rest. Next stop Jema’grethy Island. All passengers prepare to disembark."
It is a very strange morning message that rings through the train on the morning of day twenty three but as the passengers of the Voidtrecker Express wake their screens glow with the colour of the void and a holographic screen pops up for them to read.
World #2554098133741: A world once inhabited by an ancient civilisation and now preserved as a historical site, nature reserve and well-being retreat. It is famous for its relaxing hot springs, calming atmosphere and beautiful beaches.
It is a popular void-traveller destination, particularly among void missionaries as a place to rest and recuperate after difficult missions.
The Voidtrecker Express will spend three days here, arriving today and leaving on day twenty six of the month of Grasshopper. The dressing carriage is open for your convenience.
It is time for a holiday it seems!
Preparation
For those who go to explore the dressing carriage they will find a variety of beachwear and wetsuits. One cupboard has a pile of tents and groundsheets in all four team colours.
One cabinet is exclusively filled with beach towels, in a kaleidoscope of colours, designs and patterns. Another is filled with different shapes and sizes of plain towel dressing gowns. There is even a cabinet with buckets, spades and small rock-pooling nets.
It seems they are in for quite an adventure.
Arrival
"Shortly arriving on World #2554098133741. Exit from void in ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one."
The train lurches and rattles as it leaves the void they will get a glimpse of silver-purple sky and a beautiful ocean below.
However some passengers might be a little more than distracted, one staring at that table for a second too long, another seeming lost in thought for a couple of seconds, a longer than normal pause in a sentence. They see a vision, a glimpse of a life that is not their own. Not all at once, but here and there as the train descends to the island.
But then it is gone and things are back to normal. Just in time, as they come to land.
Jema’grethy Island
The train has landed on a grassy ridge, overlooking a beautiful beach of white sand and the ocean beyond. It is warm, but not too hot, a cool ocean breeze cutting through the heat making it pleasant. Behind them is a grassy plain, changing to forest in the distance. There is the sound of birdsong in the purple sky. To the west the land is more craggy, the silhouette of a fortress in the distance. In a word, it is idylic. A sense of peace permeates the island.
A little more worrying is the volcano-like structure in the north. But even a quick glance will show it is not a typical volcano. There is no smoke and the liquid slowly running down it in rivulets is pink and blue.
Exploring the passengers will find beautiful beaches, ragged cliffs to walk and caves to explore. Where it is more craggy the beaches are made of pebbles- perfect for rock pooling.
The place has no people, but it is clearly maintained. The eastern beaches have racks of shallow boats, both canoes and one- or two-person sailing dinghies. There is also a small building in which scuba gear is stored, along with several waterproofed manuals and instructional literature.
Ruins of ancient houses are scattered across the island, but the main settlement is built into a rocky section in the north-west that has been secured with ropes and stairways cut into the cliffs, perfect for scrambles and hikes.
There are no living quarters, but there are sheltered sections with basic toilet facilities marked as camping grounds in five different sections of the island - by the hot springs, within the ruined fortress, beside the harbour, on the eastern beaches, and on the northern face of the mountain.
Hot Springs
To the west are the hot springs. They have both outdoor and indoor areas; the indoor areas being wooden loghouse saunas, changing rooms and storage sheds, whilst the outdoor areas are a tiered series of pools spilling down the side of the mountain and shaded by brightly flowering trees. The waters are hot, mineral-rich and soothing.
Perfect for overly stressed, world weary Void heroes...

Lightning | OTA
Getting herself ready is bad enough - what does she pack for a holiday? The train's arrived in Jema’grethy airspace, and now she's seen the island, she's on her bed, legs folded under her and gaze narrowed down at her half-full rucksack. Clothing, sure. Knife, absolutely. Megalixir? She tucks it into the inner pocket.
"Normally I'd just ask Sarai," she mutters, not sure whether Rieper's listening or not. "You'd think they'd give us a break from these stupid disappearances for the holid--"
Her sentence trails off, eyes going blank, attention turned inwards. Outwardly, she just sways for a moment. But that moment is... stalking across a pier, the patrol routes of a dozen guards fixed in her mind, the feeling of a body going limp against her, her hands tightly wound with cord. It's surety, competence, but it's totally alien. Excellent work, 47.
"--the hell?"
Beach
It's hard to relax. But there's a familiarity to pacing the beaches, one eye on the sea, keeping an eye on swimmers and sunbathers. Used to be a joke that the Bodhum security regiment were more lifeguards than soldiers... she remembers not punching the guy who jeered it at her. She regrets that now. World had gone to hell soon after, why had she bothered restraining herself? Guy'd probably died in the Purge.
The familiarity is, in this instance, a positive thing. Even if it's just feeling the tension bleed out of her shoulders as she grumbles at someone to drink water before they keel over, or even when she attempts to evade another beach sports draft.
Exploring
Just because you're paranoid... well, everyone knows the saying. And Light won't be satisfied until she's checked the majority of the island. She's learned her lesson from the last mission, though - she'll grab a partner from the group before she heads out.
"Want to check out those caves below the western cliffs," she says, or, "Think I'll take a look at the campsite on the mountain, before we set anything up."
If the routes she takes are picturesque, and tailored to her partner's fitness level... well. That's her own business.
Camp
The rolling set of the camps on Terra have given her the ability to set up and take down the standard tents in her sleep. Actually, she's fairly sure she did that at least once near the end of that hellish week. So she doesn't really think about it, just carries three of the larger tents over to the harbour campsite, and starts assembling.
By the evening, interspersing trips back to the train with her other activities and the efforts of other campers, there's a bonfire blazing merrily in the centre of a staggered circle of tents, and she's sat on a log bench dragged over from the pile at the edge of the campsite.
When you sit, or approach, she just glances over, too relaxed to do much more than ask, "How'd your day in paradise go?"
Wildcard
[ you know the drill! pick your own thread, or come talk to me on discord or at
evading beach sports draft?!!!!?
Does Tidus know what kind of sports Light would prefer? He's going to find out, with whatever suspicions he had about this entire trip thrown into the sea with a blitzball in his possession. A blitzball hidden currently out of sight, and Tidus dressed in the offered beachwear. Because hey, why not?
(Beach beach beach beach!!)
It's easy to find her. He swears, unless it's just a coincidence, he's seen her strolling the same stretch of sand, and he's been around on the sand long enough to wonder. And the water, mostly the water, but the thing is, he hasn't yet caught her doing much of interest. Which is more reason than Tidus ever needs to approach her, but is why he does then, a wide smile on his face. Maybe even cheerier than usual??
"Light, what's up! Waiting for a giant octopus to come outta the sea?"
no subject
"No."
Is she rejecting the octopus theory? Or shutting him down early? Why not both. "But I wouldn't be surprised."
no subject
"Then what's wrong? You look like you got nothing to do!"
He throws his hands up behind his head. Just making casual friendly conversation,
absolutely nothing telling in his voice!

the awkward cabin moment
He was indeed listening to Lightning as they packed. With only the two of them it was easy to move around even in the tiny cabin. However, it seemed a little empty somehow. They hardly ever all four ended up squeezed in here together except in the mornings but somehow it felt like something was missing from the equation anyway. If he was lucky it was a false gut feeling and the Thunderstorms would return eventually. It was simpler with the four of them in here, already acquainted and familiar with each other's habits and requirements. Getting new roommates would just be a pain in other words.
He glanced up at Lightning when she cut off suddenly, a small frown on his face. He didn't have time to ask what was wrong before it hit him, too. His eyes dilated as he watched an unfamiliar scene play out in front of him as if he were suddenly transported somewhere else. He took it all in and noted everything down. But what caught his attention most was the feeling of it all, the emotions that were most certainly not his own and yet somehow flitted through his own consciousness as if they had occurred to him in that moment.
There was something almost familiar about that sensation and yet not quite the same. It was the most striking part of the whole experience for him though.
He came back to himself and blinked, heard Lightning's surprised response, looked around the cabin calmly despite it all. He looked back at her once he'd assessed everything was exactly as they'd left it.
"That was you."
rip
But they weren't there, and she just blinked slowly at him, brow furrowing.
"I saw..." You. She sits back, taking her hand away from her backpack. Deliberately casual. He didn't see what she just saw, then, because she was nowhere to be found there. Now she was thinking about it, her body had been all wrong. Heavier, held with a care that felt foreign now. A guy's body. She casts her mind around, trying to chase something concrete she could ask.
Ah. "Tyson Williams mean anything to you?"
no subject
But those thoughts were first instinct. The way he had been trained and the way he usually dealt with problems that arose in the field. He could get away with it out there in the wide world--his world--because he would move to the next job, the next city, within a matter of days if not hours and no one ever found him. No one was capable of tracking him or even connecting the dots from one murder to the next. He was too good.
They weren't set in stone. He didn't always have to resort to such methods. Now was not the time to do so either. He had to run through alternate options first. He had to--
Stop thinking like an assassin. His brain froze over the realization. Scanned backwards and found the root of the issue.
Lightning knew of a target only a handful of people knew he had taken out. A job that had been personal rather than professional. Lightning was also someone whom had earned his rather hard-to-garner trust. She was a permanent fixture on the train and he roomed with her. He was at an impasse with the facts. His professional side went in one direction while his personal side split off into another. That was...rare, to say the least.
"A CEO of a private company," he finally said after a brief pause. The thoughts in his head only took a few seconds to process but felt like an eternity of debate. He took this slow, felt for the right direction to take rather than barging ahead with one option over the other. Kept his options open in other words. "He's no longer among the living."

He was startled out of his thoughts a bit by the question and he tilted his head at her.
"It was very productive. Yours?"
no subject
The fire popped, catching on a log that gave off a burst of a warm, woodsy smell, and she glanced back at it for a moment.
"Don't think we've met. I'm Light."
no subject
It was possible she might find that comforting, or not, he wasn't exactly trying to be.
"We haven't. Senku." He responded, and he'd take a seat. Not terribly close to Lightning, he learned that lesson real quick with Enna that day, so he was out of her reach.
He was content enough to stretch out on the ground, the two tools he'd made clattering a bit as he sat down. "The fire caught my attention. It would be warmer than just sleeping out there somewhere."

exploring
"I can be coming with you." She isn't one for sitting still, even as gripping as her book is. She would rather be active and really she is very confused at why they have been allowed on a world for three days with no mission.

"Thought we'd take the cliff route. We'll use the grav-con to freefall. Easier than climbing up, right?" She keeps her voice casual, but has one eye on the girl, just in case her plan is off and she needs to reassess. But she doesn't think it is.

She's ready and raring to go.

beach now with less jittery inigo maybe??
And it's also a very handy vantage point to spot Lightning all by herself on the beach. Although it may not be initially very clear that she's his target when Inigo runs out of the water and across the sand, it probably becomes increasingly clear the closer he gets. He widely smiles when he's in front of her.
"Aren't you going to go out there? The water is great!"
heck yeah less jitters
no subject
"Of course!"
He's not rude enough to tell her to go have fun and then just not do it herself, okay. Besides, it might be fun to head into the water together?
(And he may feel a tad more secure that he won't stupidly get swept away by the water and drown when she's near, okay, Lightning's dependable.)
"Come on!" He's already taking a few steps in the direction of the water. "I can feel the water calling us! You hear it?" He puts his hands next to his mouth, making his voice more faint on purpose to make it seem ~mysterious~. "Lightniiiing, Lightniiing!"

He walks over to her, grinning from ear to ear. "Nice to be off the train for a bit, huh?"

"You can say that again. Feels like I'm waiting for the blade to fall, though..."
exploring;
She's still dressed somewhere between battle ready and up for a swim, hoodie over her swimsuit but at least wearing shoes and with dry hair. "Ah, I'll need to grab something out of my bag on the beach before we go, just in case. But do you mind the company?"
no subject
"I'll walk with you, and we'll head out from there," she offers.

At least, to hear Wen Qing gripe about it. But she figured they all deserved some slack, from what she'd heard. So she just murmured a 'good', before his turning the question back on her made her snort.
"I didn't get a choice," she complained, a token protest with her tone still so relaxed. "Apparently I'm not allowed to be a buzzkill."
