All Good Things…
The Planet’s Core [Final Boss]
Upon unavoidably stepping on the crystallized grass, they would find it shattering in countless pieces under their steps. And by the crystal they would see a familiar figure that was busy staring at the dying crystal. It looked just like Ramza, but… That wasn’t really him, was it?
no subject
He looks, first to each of the corners of the garden, and then to the center. It's empty. There had been- maybe a glimmer of hope that someone would be waiting for him here when he got here. A selfish hope, because it wasn't truly Ib, but the shadow of her trapped here from a world gone forever.
But his heart wanted to see his daughter one last time before the end.
"Where are the others?" Kaji finally speaks up. He takes another step forwards, crunching crystal. "Igor and Nebilim. Ib, and. Well-" Crunch. "You?" And, more imporantly, Shakyamuni. Her absence is the most disturbing of all. But Kaji is going to keep that card against his chest for now.
no subject
"So, this is the Planet's Core. You've made quite a mess of the place, I see." He prodded the crystallized grass with his foot, shattering it. "Either Shakyamuni showed us an illusion of it before, or there was always an overlap between the Core and the Rift. Which is it, I wonder?"
After all, Shakyamuni had specifically said the garden was inside the Interdimensional Rift. Jade almost hoped it had been nothing but an illusion. If what she'd shown them was the real Core, that... would probably make things more complicated.

The others had theories about where they were and what they were supposed to do. They had questions, and like with every confrontation, they were gonna talk 'em out before anything else happened. Santa yawned.
"Lemme know when it's time to fight."
no subject
Maybe that wasn't his role. Maybe he was just here to hit stuff and give others courage while they did the understanding. But he still would have liked to better comprehend their purpose.
His gaze was drawn to the crystal, but then back to Kaji and Jade. "Does it matter?" Sure, the others they saw in so many visions and extra dimensional trips weren't here but, "We're here now. If they aren't, then maybe it's all what was, or what could have been. That's the point of all of this right? So many cycles and so many possibilities. But when it comes down to it, it's just us, isn't it?"
His eyes settled back on Ramza, or whoever it was controlling him. At this point he couldn't even be sure it was Kalki. But there were a few things he could be sure of. "We're here now. Probably to talk, but also to fight. You know the drill. We don't want to do this, but we will. We're foolish enough to hope and dream and pray. We're dumb enough to fight. We're proud enough to work together." His eyes narrowed, "And we're stubborn enough to take Ramza back with us. As for saving the world? Well we're just hoping for the best."
no subject
Especially not whoever was controlling his son's body.
"You. Can't say I should be glad you didn't hurt him while I was gone, but I sorta am."
no subject
"Is this really the better world you're trying to build, Kalki?" Aang asked. "Because I haven't seen many signs of it."
no subject
They had a job to do. As Heroes of Light, it was their duty. They owed the people of this world that much.
"It doesn't have to be this way, Kalki," Selphie chimed in after Aang.
no subject
Often disregarded, even denied, but always there.
"...the First Crystal. Of course."
It was a mummer only, in part of an answer to Santa before Sephiroth's attention was drawn to the darkness out away from them, contained by fracturing crystal, that this reality was seemingly ready to shatter into. A shudder was repressed by a stern grip to the handle of ever-present Masamune. He knew that darkness, and as he looked around others here for those who would be on the same wavelength, he felt somewhat isolated in that there were so few left who knew what it held in store for them. That feeling of fear that hadn't exactly been his own soon crept like heavy-static across his thoughts.
...all of existence denied and returned to a void by the Calamity.
Himself, Ramza-Kalki, for sure...who else would remember.
Crystal crushed underfoot as Sephiroth made something of a cautious movement to the side, as if to circle some around the center of the room to get a perspective from a better angle. Unlike others, he's not taking the chance at being caught out or used in someway by what otherwise would be compassion; Masamune was already being slowly circled around - Combat Mode Initiated
This war has gone on for long enough. It was time to end it.

She considered the fading crystal. "Friends, perhaps we should make haste, as I am not convinced allowing this Kalki to persist in what she is doing will be to our advantage." Talk was well and good in its place, but things did not look good, and Tazendra concluded that the last five years were what had changed the garden as well as the world outside.
no subject
Kalki-Ramza stared at the Crystal, not turning to reply to the questions addressed to them.
"You broke the cycle, but another cycle continues. Existence is naught but a cycle. Universes are born, they die and then they are born anew. The melodies change, shift and the new universes born are different from their predecessors. Yet, there are only so many configuration for universes to be reborn as. Sooner or later, melodies will be the same, universes will return to a similar configuration. The lives you lived, you live again. The pain and death you went through, you live again. You will live your failures again. Your successes. Your regrets. But ultimately, all of your actions doomed to mean nothing."
A pause.
"Once the Crystal dead, the Calamity will be free. It will destroy and absorb all worlds, put all and any cycles to an end. Then I will use all of this power to create a new world where we will be free of this never-ending cycle of life and death. A world where we shall be eternal."
Then finally, they turned to look at the gathered Heroes of Light.
"What do you offer? Acceptance of living through meaningless cycles? Dreams, hopes, and values to make the unbearable bearable?"

"People just want to live their damn lives in peace. They want to live. Why is that always so much to ask for?!"

Ere long, a voice echoes around them. One they might recognize as Shakyamuni's if they have spoken with her before.
"Kalki is not only one of our facet but also one of your kind. Her desires are that of past Heroes of Light - of all living consciousness - who wish for an end to cycles and hope for a different kind of existence. But your fight against her reflects the desires of those consciousnesses who would continue with this world and better it in spite of the pain rather than negate it. She is avatar of ours, but you are avatars of yours."
The ground shakes very slightly and the aura grows oppressing-- Listening into the distance, it sounds as though faint and ethereal screams can be heard. Thousands, millions, billions of voices? It was hard to tell, the noise is too faint and the cacophony too grand to be understood.
"By having merged with Narayana, Kalki gained all of its strengths and resistance. But Narayana gained all of her weaknesses. This is no coincidence. For so many shattered consciousnesses to find wholeness, we shall need your melodies. We cannot die yet perhaps we may find rest. This, too, is no coincidence."
A pause.
"Neither side is right nor wrong. But if your will to live in our world exceeds her will to exist in another... Defeat us now and give birth to a new beginning."

The presence of an entity can clearly be felt, but nothing can be seen or heard all around the Heroes of Light. In the meantime, the entity doesn't appear to be attacking them.
Re: 2/2
He shifts into a defensive stance, not really knowing what to expect since there's no one else in the space with them. "Does anyone else hear the lady's voice telling us to fight her?"
no subject
"Shakyamuni?" Jade didn't immediately stand up. He felt the ground beneath his feet, finding it disconcertingly fleshy... almost alive. The distant screams, the fact they were hearing an Avatar's voice -- this could only mean...
"I see." He straightened and surveyed the others with him. Jaune, K'pandolu, Sheena, Chiaki, everyone who had turned to dust before their eyes mere moments ago. Sparks must have disappeared just as he did. "I don't mean to alarm anyone, but I believe we have been swallowed by the Calamity."
He might as well been declaring his dismay over spilling a drink for all the gravity in his tone.
"This may be just what we needed. If we defeat the Calamity while it's weakened by its merging with Kalki, then perhaps..." Looking over his comrades once more, Jade proceeded to cast Curaga on Jaune and K'pandolu.
no subject
Nodding to the others, she casts Curaga on Sheena just in case her Limit Break didn't fully do the job. And then, closing her eyes and concentrating, she activates Void Vision for the group.
"Reveal your true form, Calamity from the Skies! This cycle of death and despair ends today!"
no subject
"Uh. What. What happened."
Once Jade mentions the Calamity, Sparks grimaced.
"That's not good news. ...Or maybe it is. We can fight this stupidity from the inside out."
Hoping Kalki could hear, Sparks spoke loudly to the air around them as he got ready to unleash his limit break, Right the Outlaw Wrongs.
"You think a little vaporization is gonna stop me? I'm from Earth!"
Whatever Chiaki's Void Vision showed them, Sparks was ready to leap forward and pummel it with a flurry of superpowered punches.
no subject
"Well, looks like option two," Sheena muttered as Shakyamuni spoke--the voice coming from out of nowhere. Katana in hand, she started to rise as she felt healing magic fill her and once on her feet, turned to Chiaki.
"Thanks."
Weapon still down, Sheena glanced at their surroundings before settling her gaze on Jade. "Kalki made a mistake, didn't she? She didn't have all the information she should have, did she?"
That there might be a chance of another party being involved in all of this.
no subject
She glanced at Sheena, ears flicking. "I wonder if she could have," she said. "Whatever she saw- I wonder if it was the whole picture." They'd likely never know, and she prepared to cast Cura on Sparks once his limit break was done, the better to try to keep him safe. Though-
"If it… they? need our melodies- should we be singing?" she wondered.
no subject
As void vision was used, slowly the area around them was revealed. The ground appeared to be made of flesh as far as the eye could see, yet not pulsing, as if it were all dead. Pillars of the very flesh making up this entity were scattered around and soon a gigantic creature's shape was revealed. Likely not the Calamity itself, but a makeshift avatar made so the Heroes would be able to face it.
Shakyamuni's voice could be heard echoing around once more.
"Hope for eternity is the very sentiment that brought about the creation of the Calamity. Hope is what led to the senseless sacrifices of all who came before you. Hope for a better world is the core idea that drives Kalki's every actions. When unrestrained, hope leads to denial of reality and rejection of all. Ere long it becomes a pretense to ignore pain and stall growth. It is thus become as negative of a notion as despair is."
Eventually the use of void vision revealed the creature, an entity taller and more terrifying than Kalki now standing in front of the Heroes of Light. The head bore a semblance to Shakyamuni's face, would she have been made of flesh. There were no eyes to be seen or mouth, only a gaping void where they should have been. Veins were running over the left eye's void and its hair looked as though it was made of veins as well, falling besides its form and merging into the ground.
The trunk of the entity seemed to be made of dead corpses: ones whose faces might have been vaguely familiar to the Heroes. Namely those of Narasimha, Mograma, Varaha, Kalki, Prajapati, Kurma and an unidentified one that looked like a familiar-looking old man... The left arm was made of the Sage's corpse whereas the right one was made of the Leader of Narayana's Cult corpse. Their eyes were all closed, save for those of Narasimha and the Cult's Leader that were gaping void. The trunk seemed to grow from the ground itself and ere long an attack befell the Heroes of Light.
>Mega Death
Kill all targets.
The use of Mega Death is automatic and not a deliberate action. It will kill any Hero of Light not protected from death. The protection from Carbuncle and Savior of World will immunize the Heroes to this move (if used in Carbuncle's case). Reraise works after this move as well.

"It's true. Hope can lead to suffering just as despair does." He remembered a young boy, a young man, treading on the remains of the dead to create a science that would nearly destroy his world -- all in the vain hope of bringing his beloved teacher back to life. The blood on his hands... Much of it had been spilled out of hope, twisted though it was. A refusal to accept the cruel truth.
Van, all of them... had acted out of hope for a better world, even if it meant murdering millions. Or was it despair -- the belief that their future was doomed -- that had driven them to rebellion? Perhaps there was little difference.
"Our worlds -- our universe is imperfect. People are blinded by hope and despair. We fail to learn from our mistakes time and time again. That is reality." He smiled. "But that's fine, isn't it? Cleaning up the messes we make is a good enough reason to keep living."
