event: portal four | the mountain

The fourth portal, as might be expected, can be found atop the hill known as Makeout Point. The other side of the portal isn't altogether that much different from the side you're entering from, save for the thicker trees and somewhat darker lighting.
The other side of the portal is significantly colder than the Mayfield side; frost covers the ground, and although it's not quite freezing, you'll want to bundle up. A glance at the sky reveals what you might have been dreading: glitch holes, in varying size, litter the skyline. The sun is hidden behind a set of thick clouds, creating a melancholy atmosphere.
The landscape around you is relatively flat, and you can't see too far beyond the forest ahead of you. It isn't until you turn around, facing the portal that you entered from, that you see the rising slope of the ground. The mountain rises high, higher than you can see from its base. There's a rough, primitive path heading up its slope, and for now simply hiking will be sufficient. As you get further, however, simply walking won't be enough: you're going to have to climb...
Somewhere, closer than you might prefer, a single wolf howls, and is shortly joined by more.
Better get moving.

As she steps through the portal, she's grateful that her armor keeps her pretty warm - it's cold, even for this time of year. Pulling her hood over her head, she takes a moment to get a good look at her surroundings. Forest on one side, mountain on the other, frost on the ground, holes in the sky. Welp.]
Sundermount this certainly is not. [Despite everything else, her voice is upbeat and cheerful, though her mouth twists into a frown when she hears the wolves howling.] Ah, and I see we aren't alone.

[Gah, it was cold. And Corran was wrapped up in these Jedi robes that barely blocked out the wind. The only thing good going for him was the stormtrooper chestplate which kept the core of his body comfy, at least.]
There are ways of warding them off without bringing them any harm.

But do you mind if I stick around? For some reason, wandering around alone doesn't exactly seem like a good idea.

[She shakes her head.] I get the feeling there's more than just wolves waiting for us out there, so the more the merrier, I say.

Thanks for that then. I'll owe you one later.

Oh, don't worry about it; it's for my benefit, too. [She waves a dismissive hand at him.] I'm Hawke, by the way.

[Apparently, yes, it was.]
[He ends up staggering after her, cursing as cold slices through his coat, chills his hands, and makes him hunch double. Perfect. Just bloody perfect. Exactly where he wanted to be right now.]
You have the worst ideas in the history of bad ideas. Have I ever mentioned that?

This sort of reminds him of the old days, following the Commander (or Champion, in this case), into parts unknown. Ah yes, the sounds of the local wildlife and Anders' bitching were already bringing back memories.
And of course there are wolves. Maker, he'd really love a bow right now. He shifts the bag and reaches for the hatchet he pilfered from the Fire Station. ]
Please, Anders, be a little louder. I don't think the wolves heard you.

[She pats both men on their shoulders before stepping forward, toward the mountain path.]
Nowhere to go but up, I suppose. Come along, you two; it'll be just like old times.

[At least the town returned one of his staffs, a while back. So he has something to use as a walking stick.]
[He makes a face, but follows after Hawke, doing just that. Though he does glance back, just in case those wolves make an appearance.]
"Just like old times", is it? Somehow, that's not particularly reassuring.

[Heh heh heh. Is this going to be a long hike up that mountain?
Yes. Yes, it is. Especially for Nathaniel.]

[Since there is still the little bit of jealousy there, and this way, he gets to stay nearer to Hawke. Neener neener. Though, more seriously, she's much more likely to get herself into trouble than either of them.]
[He trudges along behind her, half wondering when some Dalish Horror or ancient Abomination is going to leap out at them. Or when they'll run into Mayfield's version of the Deep Roads. All possibilities seem likely.]
... Yes. Do so. I'm not certain Howe we'll survive without due warning.
[This is for the wolf comment, you jerk.]

Then he's trying really, really hard to kill them with a glare. ]
Are we really doing this?
no subject
[By "this," Nathaniel means hiking, right? :'D She looks over her shoulder and calls out to him with an innocent, sing-song tone of voice, before flashing a bright smile at both of them. Oh, this is going to be fun~]
Howe else are we going to get up this blighted mountain?

let me know if this is a problem
[Oh and howling...]
And when there are wild animals about?
it's fine!
yaay
Well, we should be careful on how we tread then. I think most people do not like being eaten, I would assume it hurts.
