the lantern burns firm and easy [ OPEN MINGLE ]
Who: ANYONE AND EVERYONE
What: Denny is officially open!
When: Anytime after June 21st and...onward, go nuts?
Where: Denny
Warnings: Y'all will have to warn for yourselves 'cause this is a mingle
[Feel free to use this as a catch-all for whatever your character might conceivably be doing here. Are they loitering outside? Delivering supplies/food? Helping improve the place because god it certainly needs it? Cooking? Socializing? Eating? Just wanting to booze it up? GO WILD.]
[There are nominal rules but if you don't get caught you don't have to deal with them, so you do you]

[This may have been his idea, but that doesn't mean he's any good at actually using it to socialize now that it's actually up and working.]
[Mostly, though? He's keeping an ear out. Listening. Keeping careful track of any altercations that might be taking place.]
[For his own reasons.]

[He steps back, hastily. He was aware that cats were on this island, but he hasn't actually engaged any of them - with the exception of ESP Kitty, and also Brian's kitten. This one is definitely not a kitten, and also has the general appearance of a ragged stray.]
What're you doing back here, huh? [It's said under his breath, with the apparent expectation that she won't actually answer.]
no subject
Catching my dinner.
[She withdraws her paw, hops onto the pile, and slinks to the other side in hopes that the lizard hasn't already made a hasty escape out the back.]
The warmth of this place draws prey out of the marsh--makes for better hunting than I expected.
no subject
[So instead he leans back, hands in his pockets, and watches her go.]
Well, you're welcome to them. Probably best if we don't let anything get into the food.
no subject
That wouldn't do, would it?
[This is by far the most casual conversation she's had with a Twolegs. As long as she doesn't think too hard about it, she can imagine him as another cat. A cat that really really needs a nap from the looks of his eyes.]
If I'm being honest, I'm tempted to move my nest to this part of the forest. I've had my fill of the beach.
no subject
[That being said, he has no idea where the rules regarding talking cats go. Can they all talk? Why just this one? Should he just not think about it?]
Might be a good idea. The beach has flooded before. Storyteller says it won't happen again, but I wouldn't chance it.
no subject
I wouldn't trust anything that rabbit says.
[She gives up on the lizard for now and turns to look up at Tim. He's one of the most normal-looking Twolegs she's seen. So does that make him unusual then?]
This is a doomed place, a flood is the least of my worries. For now I will appreciate good hunting.
[She sniffs in his direction in attempts to learn more about him. Smoke--but not normal smoke. She's smelled it before, perhaps back at Carrionplace.]

[Maybe it's different for a cat - being talked to by what is, ostensibly, prey for said cat. He tilts his head to one side. Feels like maybe he should sit down, or...or crouch or something, so that he's not looking down at her, but it feels like hunkering down might come across as condescending.]
What makes you say that? That it's...doomed?

I am cut off from StarClan here. Every night I have asked them for guidance and the stars stay silent.
no subject
[Guidance sounds like prayer and that sounds vaguely like some kind of religion, maybe.]
no subject
StarClan are my ancestors. They give me visions to better guide my own Clan...but I have no Clan here. Perhaps that's why they won't speak to me. I've never heard of StarClan talking to a rogue.
[For a long moment she stares into space the way cats do.]
I saw a horrible thing with the body of a cow and the head of a Twolegs. This place is doomed.
[It was Foster. Nobody is surprised.]

Well, we are pretty isolated. It's kinda like its whole other world. The constellations - the arrangement of the stars and everything - they're all different here too.
[Plus the sun is a giant flaming bird, for some fucking reason, which is considerably different than it being this literal celestial body.]
[...and boy, that description sounds familiar.]
Did he kinda have huge, hairy arms, and smiled a bunch?
no subject
Yes! Yes! He spoke nothing but lies and foolishness and knew the name of my Clan's most hated traitor! If I weren't so removed from my home I would think he crawled straight out of the Dark Forest! But even that is worlds away now!
no subject
[If that's what he's parsing here, then...damn, that's a hell of a coincidence, isn't it? He did mention that he wasn't "new" to this, which implied that he was someplace else before ending up here, but lord.]
no subject
I cannot imagine it was a lucky guess. He said Tigerstar--who I misheard him say as Tigerclaw at first. Tigerstar of Fireclan...there's no such clan! Not unless something terrible happened after I...
no subject
Sometimes there's...there are different...developments. Things that happen once you're away from home. People get to be different than they were, and sometimes - sometimes they get to be way different, I guess.
no subject
[Yellowfang wrinkles up her already scrunchy face. She eventually stops scratching up the fire wood. Tim seems sensible. If the Clan's worst enemy could go on and change, so could she. She wasn't dead yet. Not here anyway.]
Perhaps I'm wrong. It isn't this forest that's doomed, but my own. There's nothing I can do about it right now.
no subject
[What it might mean, if he disappears for good.]
There's no way to tell. I guess you could ask the Storyteller, but...yeah. [They can agree there, at least.] It's hard to know what you're gonna get, with them.
no subject
[A somber moment passes.]
Do me a favor, Twolegs, and give this wood pile a kick. I want to see if that lizard is still hiding inside.
no subject
[He almost lapses into a fit of coughing, and hastily glances away with his eyes watering.]
Any luck?
no subject
[She waits. And waits.]
Resilient little mite, isn't it? It doesn't want to die any more than we do.
no subject
[Tim nudges at the wood pile again, hoping that additional movement might spur the thing out into the open.]
You won't go hungry, right? You've got plenty of food to catch around here or anything?
no subject
[That gets a weak, raspy little laugh out of her.]
There are more creatures in a circle of fifty fox-lengths in this marsh than you can imagine.
no subject
[Hey man, he doesn't know if mana pools take care of cats too.]
The mana pools are what people used when they first showed up and couldn't really get all the food we needed right away.
