[It's been a long day, but Jester has passed by much of it in a blur of color. She'd been so eager to get started, she'd taken off her bracelet and abandoned it on the table by the door to the painting studio, before launching herself at the largest canvas possible. And, predictably, she's been so sucked into it that the outside world just sort of...ceased to exist for about eleven hours. Fueled by stale donuts and the candies she keeps stashed in her pockets, she fills an entire canvas with her feelings before remembering that there is, in fact, an outside world.

She picks up her bracelet and—oh, oh fuck. Her alarm raises with each successive message from Fjord, and she's packing up her stuff even as she punches the button to call Fjord. The moment he picks up, she's babbling.]

Hey, oh my fucking god I am so sorry! I was in the art studio painting literally all day—

[There's a rattling of brushes as she shoves them into a jar of turpentine, and then quick footsteps and the slamming of a door as she leaves the studio, all beneath her voice:]

I feel so stupid, I left my bracelet by the door and totally forgot about it. I'm so sorry, Fjord!

[ Opening his mouth to reply to the call is pointless when Jester chatters away. The relief Fjord feels smooths over any annoyance or anxiety that was rising in the back of his throat and he sighs, listening to the clattering and fussing with a crooked smile until she's done. ]

There's no need to rush now that we know you're safe. I've left the light on in the front room for you, when you get in.

[Jester's breath comes out in a rush as soon as she's finished talking, and her hurried footsteps don't slow down any.]

No, I really want to get home quick so I can come give you a hug! I feel so terrible that I worried you!

[ He can't say he's not pleased to hear her running home just to find him. ]

I'll be in the living room with something to eat for you. You haven't eaten already, have you? Real food.

Okay, I'll be there in like...twenty minutes. [she giggles, shaking her head even though he can't see it.] No, just stale donuts and candy. See you soon, I love you!

[After they hang up, she lets out a growl of frustration at herself for being such an airhead today. It makes her feel awful to think of Fjord getting more and more worried by the hour, while she was just lollygagging around with a paintbrush all day. She'll have to make it up to him.

True to her word, the door slams open about twenty minutes later, and she drops her bag by the door before her feet carry her quickly into the living room. She finds Fjord and runs over to him, arms wrapped tight around his middle and a quick but heartfelt kiss on the lips.]

I'm so sorry! You were all worried, and I was just sucked into painting. I'm definitely not mad at you, or anything, I promise!

[ Setting a tray of hot buttered toast with some tomatoes on top on a coffee table when the front door bursts open, he straightens and his arms are free just in time to catch the barrelling blue form of Jester for a hug and a kiss. ]

It's alright! I was just wondering, really, where you had run off to.

[ After Aphrodite and Caleb vanished and reappeared recently, he may be on higher alert than usual. He rubs her arms, shivering at the chill she brings indoors. ]

Not that you care, but you're freezing. Let's get you cosied up.

Don't worry, baby, I didn't get kidnapped for sex or anything. [She buries into his neck with a happy sigh, kissing him there.] It's cute that you were all worried about me, you know.

[She pulls back and then puts her hand on her face, patting softly.] Am I? Oops! Ugh, is that for me, it smells so good. [Already gravitating toward the food, but pulling Fjord right with her by the hand!]

I wasn't worried ...

[ Pulled along with her, he swerves to sink down heavily on the couch and tug her along, once Jester has grabbed her food. ]

I thought you'd made some new friends, that's all.

[She settles in against Fjord's chest, plate of toast in her lap. She definitely has paint smeared on her hands and arms and face, but she's pretty sure most of it is dried by now. She munches happily into it, and thinks for a moment how she really has done a lot of growing up, because she eats vegetables all the time now, and actually likes them.

Jester tilts her chin up toward Fjord, the better to see him.]

Oh, no, nothing like that. Well, I did make a friend, and he asked for a painting studio from the Augur. So I went over there right away to check it out, you know, and then I thought, "I'm not doing anything right now!" So I just picked up a brush and started painting. [She wriggles happily, thinking about her huge beautiful canvas.]

I can't wait to show you. It's huge and so pretty!

[ Finally able to relax, Fjord dozes with an arm around Jester and a hand patting absently over her legs where they hang to one side of his lap. He tips his head back on the couch and closes his eyes, yawning. ]

Did you take any pictures?

Oh shoot!

[Jester grumbles, crumbs spilling down her front as she takes another bite of toast.] No, I forgot because I was in such a rush! But if you want, I could show you tomorrow?

Sure, I'm not busy. I'd like to see what you've been up to in your arty hideout.

[ With a kiss to her forehead. ]

Great! I can't wait. Ooh, I can show you the tattoo I did the other day, though—

[She fiddles with her bracelet for a minute, before projecting the image of the hidden-dick circuit board she'd tattooed on Noiz.]

Look at how beautiful it is!

[ Fjord squints, trying to make out what it is he's looking at. In the end he decides to go with a neutral, ]

It's very ... geometric. What is it? Oh! I see a dick.

I have no idea what it means, really. He showed me examples and then I asked if I could hide a dick in it. And he let me!

[Jester's beaming, tail flicking back and forth proudly.] I even learned how to use the tattoo machine! It's way faster than the other way.

Is the machine more dangerous?

[ Sounds like it! ]

I mean...maybe? But it's also less painful and doesn't make you pass out, so. I think it evens out.

Well, I'm glad you're having fun. If it involves permanently marking the idiots on this island with dicks, all the better.

[ He's proud of her, giving her a cuddle. ]

Do you ... think it would be a good idea to make a small mark on us? The Nein, I mean. Just a scratch somewhere so we know we're the same people if we disappear and return.
