Maglor July catchall
⌛ Who: Maglor & whoever!
⌛ What: Maglor got a music box that broadcasts his thoughts. He doesn't know this. Yet. Also just general July things.
⌛ When: all though July
⌛ Where: all over
⌛ Warnings: depending on who tags him and what they ask, topics may delve dark
Music Box: Thoughts Edition
See, here's the thing about Maglor. His thoughts are noisy. His family could have mentioned how 99% of the time he was composing in his youth - this has not, in fact, gotten any better as he's gotten older - it's just that the 1% not dedicated to music got LOUD.
So it's a toss up if the music box tunes in to his thoughts if one is going to get a sudden jangle of whatever composition he's working on at the moment (it might sound like a cacophony of noise, or something very close to the most perfect symphony you've ever heard, depending) or just random rambling streams of thoughts.
He's surprisingly paternal, if you listen to his thoughts. There's a lot of worrying over... pretty much everyone.
Music Box: Memories Edition
The memories that the box picks vary - you might run into him staring fondly at the image of a large, noisy family doing all sorts of things from playing to crafting to fighting to just existing, to brilliant great light sources that happen to look a bit like trees, to beautiful cities that look like paintings, to much darker memories - lonely shores, fire and war, long tiring nights guarding those behind him, all the way to softly sad memories - dark haired twins in a cold castle.
He'll talk about any of them, if asked, but probably won't notice any watchers to discuss them without being prompted.
Soul Artifact
".............we don't have to do this, if you don't want to."
He's very not sure if he WANTS to know what his soul artifact is. But this is what they've been asked to do so...
(It's a harp. Just a harp. His shoulders will drop in relief when it is revealed - clearly, he was expecting something else. But when the strings are touched... Something like grief will cross his face. )
Trial of Promise
"You cannot leave until you..." He reads out slowly, in the dim cave his glow is striking, especially since there's no other source of light barring the words on the wall.
"...Ah." He sighs, unhappily.
Trial of Devotion
He eyes the mountain and wonders aloud, "Do you think they mind if we cheat? I wonder if I can put them to sleep?"
Alternatively, he could just fight his way up. The odds are better than many times in his past.
"What do you think?"
Trial of Love
He waits only until the rules are announced before stating, very calmly; "That's fine. I'll just break mine."
What is such pain after all, compared to all the pain he has already had in his life?
He'll immediately move to smash the harp on any available surface unless stopped.

Soul artifact
Of course he didn't really want to do this at all. Knowing his soul was broken and actually seeing proof of it were two different things. But if he has to see it he'd rather have his brother with him than anyone else.
(His artefact is not what he'd expected. He's not sure wether or not he should be worried about what it means... It's a mask, just a mask...)
omg that mask
Maglor smiles weakly. No one knows him so well as his brother, after all. He wouldn't want to subject Elrond to this, let alone a stranger.
"Which... which of us should go first? And ... which name do you think they mean?"
Suddenly, the elven habit of naming everything multiple ways becomes a problem.
I thought it would fit him.
"Would you mind if I went first?" Any delay to having his soul bared was a welcome distraction, "I'm...not sure. Maybe all of them?"
That would of course be slightly awkward for them, who had so very many names. It would be a mouthful to have to rattle of every single one of them.
it really really does!
"We might as well try with all of them... but at once or one at a time?"
At least Maglor doesn't have that many....
no subject
He takes a deep breath and places his hand on his brothers chest, all the while feeling both awkward and apprehensive.
"Makalaure!" He calls out with some force, trying to will it to work.
no subject
He waits, but nothing happens and he grimaces, feeling awkward.
"This is so odd."
no subject
Nothing to do but try again.
"Kanafinwe!" This time he tries to put some power into his voice, maybe that will help?
no subject
"No luck." He says gloomily.
no subject
"Third times the charm they say..." Not that he held a lot of hope for success, "Maglor!"
no subject
"They do." He agrees, and this time there's a glow, although it peters out just before Maedhros can grab at anything.
"Oh! That... alright, I think... I think that's it. It must be... the name we think of ourselves by."
And he hasn't been Makalaure since ... probably Alqualonde, and he doesn't much like being Kanafinwe.
"Try that again, because I think that's the right way to do it."
Now they know, Maglor is sure it will be easy - no one else knows him so well as his brother, after all.
no subject
"What the...!" He had been prepared for another failure. The combination of unexpected success and the sight of his brothers chest lighting up stuns him long enough that he completely forgets to grab for the artifact.
"That was...not what I was expecting. But I suppose it makes sense, why would our souls react to name we don't really consider us anymore."
He feels a little bit foolish not thinking of that before he started, he might have saved himself from loking like an idiot.
"Maglor!" This time he makes sure to grab for the light in his brothers chest, pulling out whatever might be there.
no subject
"Oh!" He murmurs. "That feels... very very odd." Not Bad, as he has yet to find a kizuna effect that feels bad (then again, he hasn't been afflicted by any of the shapeshifting yet either). Just odd.
He's almost afraid to look, and visibly relaxes when it's revealed to be a harp.
"A harp? As if I need another!"
It's a weak joke, but he's too relieved to care.
no subject
He pauses for a bit when Maglor reacts to the sensation, loking intently for any sign of pain or distress. "If it hurts, please tell me." He says before continuing.
He's not sure what he'd been expecting, but he wasn't very surprised by the harp when he finaly had it in his hand.
"Well, it certainly fits you."
He absentmindedly lets his fingers experementaly run over the harpstrings.
no subject
"Mm, that's true... whoa!"
That first strum sends an actual sword flying out, Maglor paling and lunging forwards to stop the vibrations with his hands.
"Um."
no subject
"Yes, it should have been obvious it would be some kind of musical... sweet Eru!" He almost dropps the artifact in shock. That had not been what he'd expected.
"...ok. Let's not do that again."
no subject
"But yes, let's... not. Maybe we should put it down in the corner?"
no subject
"That is probably a good idea."
And now for what he was dreading. "Do you want to try now. It should be easier now that we know wich name is more likely to work."
no subject
He answers sadly but nods, taking a deep breath and putting it aside.
"We can, if you're up to it?"
no subject
It might be what most people would remember him by, but to Maedhros his brother would always be remembered for the comfort his songs brought him at the lowest points of his life.
"I am," he said. Trying to make it sound like he believed it. "I'd rather get it done sooner rather than later."
no subject
He nods, awkwardly reaching out to his brother.
"Alright. Um. Maedhros?"
Maybe don't sound like you're asking a question, Maglor.
no subject
He gives a reassuring smile and steels himself.
"Ah! You were right, that does feel...wierd."
The light coming out of his chest is also a bit disconcerting for him.
no subject
Maglor checks - it didn't hurt him, but he worries for his brother.
"Should I keep going?"
no subject
It was an entirely unique feeling, he wasn't even sure how to explain it. But painful, he knew, was not the right word to describe it as.
"Yes. No reason to stop halfway through."
no subject
Maglor nods, and braces himself.
"Maedhros." Firmer this time, and he goes to grab, which... it still sounds really weird in his head, but... it's... working?
no subject
He'd made up his mind to at least try to stop hiding such things from his brother.
The feeling of something being pulled from inside him was odd, it wasn't even a physical feeling exactly. When it was over and the artifact was in his brothers hands he couldn't help but feel a little aprehensive. A mask... What did it say of him that his soul manifested in that way.
"That...was not what I was expecting."
