August 29 | Afternoon | Action
Jack was wary as he entered Good Spirits and approached the bar. Sword and pistols and ammunition were a constant for him, now: he was always well armed. Some of the Kincorans had gotten his pity and aid; others he would kill without hesitation to protect the Lucetians who had captured his loyalties.
Today, though, he had discovered the lack of transporter, and his fears centered around his boat. A decision had to be made.

It didn't matter that they'd recently nearly-quarrelled over his drinking. It didn't even really matter that they'd been quarrelling semi-frequently. She was at work and she was on her feet and somehow that was more tiring than it had ever been, before.
She sat the mug -- it was one of the few clean ones left in the place -- on a coaster.

"I've got a full house. I can't just walk out, mid-shift. Not this time."
Not like usual.

What had happened during the Festival had made Jack jittery when it came to unexpected change. He was waiting for the hammer to fall, and this influx of Kincorans -- well, so far nothing doing, but his paranoia didn't care about that.
And her power had ebbed again.
"To the sea."

He should have killed the man. Should have killed killed
Daddy...no. Please.
"Just in case," he added in gentler tones. "In case anyone's wanting revenge."
no subject
No. Can't was the wrong word. "I could be needed. Here. Vampires, or..."
Her voice also dropped. Buffy planted one hand on the bar and she leaned forward.
no subject
She could; she wouldn't.
"I knew you wouldn't. Hero and such. Maybe possibly I need you. Maybe possibly I should have ---"
Killed.
no subject
I won't stop you. Buffy watched him. Waited.

His boat was out there, unprotected. He could better protect his woman out there.
His. His woman. The bar told the tale sure enough, what with all the carvings saying the same.

Buffy pushed off the surface and grabbed at her bar rag. Even she could see that her approach was wrong. She deflated by a small measure or two. "I'll be fine. I'll pinky swear it, if you want me to."
no subject
Jack leaned closer, over the bar. "I want a hugging-oath. You? Hugging me. Only that will do."
Buffy Summers would never forgive him for kidnapping her. He would never forgive himself for letting her come to possible harm. At least she wouldn't be as vicious as Angelica was when it came down to it. At least she didn't have a doll.
At least she didn't have a voodoo doll.

But Buffy nodded. "Lemme just fill a few more of these drink orders? First?"

Everyone had scoffed at his soul-saving mission, save for a few. Yotsuba still seemed to believe in him, for one. Truly, though...it didn't seem to be working. It wasn't erasing anything. It wasn't winning her back. This became apparent with each passing day to Jack Sparrow -- with each cold night, save for those few where she accepted his affection.
He nodded at her and wondered how little affection she would grudge him in this particular hug. Then he considered how violent it might get before the end.

But after a good twenty minutes, she found enough downtime to slip from behind her bar and come up behind the pirate. She placed a hand tentatively on his elbow -- it was easier than speaking loudly over this din.
"Hey."
no subject
He didn't like the way two Kincorans in particular were looking at him.
no subject
Just maybe not the one he wanted, she thought -- thinking she knew the question to begin with.
no subject
Always a gamble, these days.

"Use your words, hun."

Outside, Annielove?"
