[It was as if someone had flipped a switch in Reverein's weather forecast. The month before had been warm, yes, but it was mild. Comfortable, as the summer should be, but the last few recent days have been nothing short of unbearable with today being the worst of them. It's humid, muggy, and Tifa can feel the sweat clinging to her clothes as she shops around the Marketplace for their food as well as the Starflower's for the next week. She has to make several stops for drinks to keep herself hydrated lest she collapse in the middle of the road. She's all on her own too, having left all of the dogs at home with the hopes that they'll stay cooler there than out in the sun.
Though, she may come to regret that when she returns home.]
I'm back... finally.
[Her voice is weary, beat, and she understands why there are no paws tapping against the floor to come and greet her at the door. Though...
It is awfully quiet for a Sunday when everyone is supposed to be home.
[She'll eventually hear some whimpers and one of the corgis trundling towards her. Well. Trying. Melody's paws are having a little difficulty lifting off the floor which make a shlick shlock type of sound as if something had been spilled over it. So she looks more like she's waddling than walking before she barks at Tifa and turns her head towards the living room.
And there....
It looks like some great tragedy has happened.
In the middle of the floor is Eustace lying face down, arms and legs spread out. He's wearing loose clothing, but the completely open back reveals his dark skin glistening from his sweat. His hair is also flat and hanging from his head, completely soaked in water in what was clearly an attempt to keep himself cool. Around him are some of the dogs who hadn't taken refuge down at the base of the tree. Eria herself also looks as if she's melting on the couch, but she's making some attempts in keeping the room cool. Yet even the cool air that is focused on Eustace does little more than give a brief reprieve.]
[She can hear it before she sees it—the sound of Melody struggling to lift her paws from the floor as she whines and waddles her way over, but when she catches sight of the poor pup...]
Melody!? What is it?
[Now she's worried when she turns her head back to the living room, and Tifa makes the mistake of kicking off her shoes first and dropping all the food to the floor before rushing inside...
...
Only to make a face at the way her bare feet stick to the floor, like someone has spilled syrup all over it... and right after she spent a whole morning cleaning it up...!
But that is the least of her concerns right now, and as poor Melody struggles to catch up to Tifa, she scoops the little corgi into her arms to spare her and continues on her very bizarre journey to the living room.]
Eustace!?
[The silence that she's met with is disconcerting, and of course her mind wanders to the worst possible places. He had said he would be home, that it was too hot for him to go out today, and they said their goodbyes when she left for groceries...
Her panic only makes the already suffocatingly humid and hot room spike further when she enters it and—]
Eust...ace...?
[—she finds him face down and lifeless on the floor? Melody only whines as she tries to wriggle free from her arms so that she can go to him, but she keeps a firm hold on her, her eyes now scanning the room.
What in the world...?
There is a considerable rise in temperature as the panic strikes again, and Tifa falls to her knees beside him to try and wake him.]
Are you okay!?
[She makes a face when her hand touches his back and... stays there...
[She barely heard it over Melody's barking as she waddles around Eustace and pushes his head with her paws to try and wake him, and when that steam rises from his body, she thinks she understands. She knew he didn't like the heat, and they had yet to have a day as hot as this one in Reverein, but she didn't know how bad it was...
Bad enough that she swears his soul has drifted away like a hot air balloon...
But also bad enough that she does grow a little worried that he might have suffered from a heat stroke while she was gone, so she tries to move him again, this time with more force. Enough that she hears the skin on his arm pop as it tries to peel away from the floor???? ew???]
Can you get up...?
[Melody shoves her paws against his head again because she wants to be helpful. Grandpa, wake up!!!]
He never would have imagined or planned for such a situation, but...
Here he is. Lying here. Unable to move.
Never before has he been in such a hot and humid situation. He's been to many places in Phantegrade Skydom, include arid, desert like islands. He's trained in hot weather in full uniform precisely because he was naturally more adapted for the cold and he wanted to be prepared for any situation.
He's faced dangerous Primal beasts, went up against countless monsters and trained soldiers, fought against Otherworldly beings and mechanizations from the moon, was the key in obliterating one of the largest automagods ever created and saved the skies—
YET it would be this unworldly heat that would fell him. How he wish he could have been stronger...!
He's sorry, Tifa... Lyria... Eria... His children and grandchildren (dogs)...
(He's fine just dump some water on him or something.)]
Didn't think this would be how you went, to be honest...
[So he's being dramatic and although Tifa does muster a slightly amused grin, she also feels sorry for him. How long has he been like this? And more importantly, how long is long enough for him to get stuck to the floor?
She reaches out instead to brush her fingers through his hair to check how hot he is, and is surprised when it springs back into place with more volume than it had before she disturbed it.
Shiva's tits, this really is bad.]
Eustace, can you at least get up off the floor so I can get you some water?
[But before he can even answer, she gets up and leaves him there to grab some, and making sure to put extra ice in.
And when she returns to his side, he will feel the sharp cold of an ice cube on his bared back...
[There's just another muffled sound of exhaustion, which would be a no. All he wants to do is just lie here. But the feel of that ice cube on his back actually helps a little...
...
For the five seconds it lasted before it started to melt into a puddle.
[She kind of expected that, so when it melts into her hand, she isn't so surprised and just wipes it off on his back, making another face at how it all feels...
Husband, she feels for you and understands your plight, but you cannot stay here, and especially not like this.
...
...]
I'm sorry.
[She meant for him to drink this but if he can't even lift his head up to do that...
With a sigh, Tifa is just going to dribble the ice cold water over the back of his head...]
[There's just a small sigh at feeling the cool water flow over his head. Considering how he already had a shower, a bath, and probably dunked his face in the sink and possibly used a bucket, a glass it like a drop in a desert.]
Tifa looks to Eria—who is still currently melting on the couch—for help.]
Is there anything you can do?
[It's a desperate plea, because no matter how hard Tifa might try, she'd end up just melting the few cubes they have in the tray if she were to try making more...
As Melody now sits on Eustace's back and barks at him.]
[Oh no... Eria, you were her last line of defense against the heat.]
This is worst than I thought...
[Tifa pushes herself up from the floor and looks around at the scene in front of her again. It isn't much of one, but with Eustace lying face-down on the floor with a puddle of water beneath him, Eria dying on the couch, and Melody digging her paws into Eustace's back, it leaves her at a complete loss.]
Eustace... [She tries one more time.] We only have one tray of ice in the freezer and you know I can't do anything with that...
[She can make fire and heat, but how helpful is that here??? If anything, she has no idea how much worse she's making it with her constant worrying.]
It's only now that Eustace makes an attempt to move, his hand twitching as if trying to move. Of course...it's sticky, but the water also helped to loosen things some so slowly....... VEEERRRYYY slowly he manages to roll himself over...onto his back.
[Tifa winces, her teeth gritting at the sound of his skin unpeeling itself from the sticky floor (she still hasn't figured out why it's like this), and she moves to help him just as he is able to roll himself onto his back.
Her hand is cool from the glass of water, and she presses that same palm to his forehead, pushing his dampened hair back.]
[Well... 'patheticness' is all very subjective, isn't it...?
Tifa hardly thinks this is that, but it is a bit... pitiful to watch her husband—her strong pillar of a husband who she looks to for strength when she can't find it within herself—being taken out so badly by the heat. She expected it to be bad, but this...?
What is she supposed to do?
She gives him a sheepish smile.]
Well, I can't really do anything for you on the floor like this...
[Still, in spite of that, she doesn't think much of it yet as she leans over him with another lopsided smile and even a laugh. Her ponytail falls over her shoulder to tickle his nose, and with her now free hand after setting the glass down, she runs it through his hair combing it back again to keep his forehead cool.]
[Eria barely looks up from where she's laying on the couch, and Tifa hears a low, lamenting whine from her.]
Alright...
[Her voice falls away the longer she stares down at him, and it's only now that she can see just how much volume and floof that his hair has gained just from her brushing her fingers through it. It's... bigger than she's ever seen it before, like a cloud, or a shaggy dog after it's shaken the water from its fur...
...
Her eyes go wide, and she tears her eyes away before she can either laugh or sigh.]
Um, l-let me just...
[Tifa pulls on her other hand, but it doesn't budge. So, she pulls again.
[It's definitely for the best, and she's not going to tell him a thing... Hopefully by the time he actually manages to get up and go to a mirror, that floof will have died down a little. Okay, no. A lot. Tifa didn't think it would get that bad.
Except as Eustace rolls onto his side with his help like he's a giant egg, Tifa's hand goes with him, until there's a sharp peeling noise when she tries to tear it off like a bandaid...
And rips it away like one, the force of it sending her reeling backwards.]
🧊
Though, she may come to regret that when she returns home.]
I'm back... finally.

Woman.
Your husband is melting.
Is this really the time to worry about cleaning??? Gonna need it to get rid of whatever is making this floor sticky to begin with!!!
Speaking of, at her attempt he will also try...

Only to not be able to move either. This results in him falling back so rip her hand.]
