November EMP Meme

ENABLEMEPLZ

meme goes up on the Second Saturday of every month

FOR GAME ADS:

Put an ad up with the characters / crew / pairings / fetish you want for your game under the correct game header. This meme is primarily going to be focused on DWRP games but IJ and LJ games are allowed.

PLEASE NOTE A RULE CHANGE HERE. ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding (no font size > size 4 or 3 "big" tags, no oversized banners (they must be 250px in height or less), no blinking text, no obnoxious table html that doesn't collapse easily, no sparklies, no large pictures). Use all the colors you like, but please remember 3 "big" tags is the limit and that's only for headers or title text rather than for all the text in an ad.

FOR GAME QUESTIONS:

RPers interested in a game can create a header for the game and ask questions about that game that aren't easy to find on faqs, such as the actual pace vs. what's listed/what kind of plots are run/if the game leans more towards plotty or slice of life/if a game leans more towards network or logs, etc. Both anon questions and anon answers are welcome in this section just like in the rest of the meme.

This thread is not for speaking about wank or drama in a game. There are anoncomms that exist for that. This thread is specifically for general questions about a game that rpers want to get perspective on from players already in the game. Answers can be slightly negative (such as saying app response is slow or that the plots are repetitive or similar things) but this should at least be worded politely. Unnecessary vitriol, any mention of personal drama or wank, or mod teams/individual mods/players being singled out, will be either frozen or screened (based on what seems right based on the content).

FOR CHARACTER ADS:

Put up an ad about the characters you are offering. For PSL ads, there is a separate subthread but for character ads for games, post directly to the meme post. Others will comment to you with the games/casts they want you to join.

There is a "Find a Castmate" section, where you can talk about a cast you play in at a game, and try to lure people to join it. Not all games post to the meme or have a "wanted" section, so players that want to tempt people to their cast on their own can use this section for it. Please format this the same as the PSL section, where you post your character's canons in your subject. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find a Castmate" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. When listing who's currently in a cast, please do this in sentence form (with commas) rather than in list form.

There is a "Find Crosscanon" section, where you can talk about a character you play and and desired crosscanon for that character. Please make sure this is not too generalized a search, because just wanting general crosscanon can be accomplished with the other sections of the meme. This is for specific characters or character types you're looking for. In the subject, please list the "Looking for [canon you're looking for]" rather than your character's canon. If looking for a character type, list the character type in as few words as possible. Do not make the subject huge or I'll screen your comment. For the actual text of the ad you must use the "Find Crosscanon" form provided at the bottom of this post so that these ads don't get huge. This section is only for game crosscanon as in the psl section people can list their preferences.

Examples of crosscanon you can search for: You play The Flash from DC Comics and your dream CR is fellow speedster Quicksilver from Marvel. Or you might play a witch and want cr with other witches in general. Or maybe you play a good character messed up by evil parents and want to play against a villain character you know has evil parents, because you know it'd lead to some interesting negative CR.

ABSOLUTELY NO obnoxious coding, with the same rules as the Game Ads Section above.

If you're recommending a game to someone, try to match your suggestion to their needs. It's okay if part of your game rec is copy-pasted (such as what the game's about), but at least some part of the rec must be personalized to their ad. Try not to recommend the same game to every single ad, either. Ad spam that isn't individualized in some way will also be frozen or screened. Keep in mind this needs to be more specific than "this game has easy AC like you're asking for but meets none of your other requirements." Make sure you're advertising games that might click with that specific character, where a few elements fit what they're looking for. You should be thinking about the story reasons of how the character might click with the game.

IN GENERAL:

Don't be a dick. This isn't one of the anoncomms, so any snide comments or unnecessary commentary on the RP plans of others will be frozen or screened.

MOD CONTACT:

If there's trouble, tell me HERE, please!

Important note: IP logging has turned on due to multiple instances past and present of problem players trying to return to the dwrp community via emp after being banned other places, so I'll be IP logging from now on, and will compare notes with the rpa and wg mods (as well as game mods) where appropriate if it seems like someone that has been mass banned. INCENSED, a fantasy horror/adventure game

[personal profile] treasuremap 2021-11-14 03:04 am (UTC)(link)

INCENSED is a panfandom fantasy horror game set in a jungle filled with monsters, valuable relics, and mist, otherwise known as "the incense," that drives anyone who breathes it in mad and warps its victims into savage monsters. Featuring an interactive and collaborative plot that tasks characters with working together to uncover the source of the incense, the game takes inspiration from RPGs including Dungeons and Dragons, Final Fantasy IX, Shadow Hearts and others, as well as films such as Stephen King's The Mist to create elements of survival horror and classic adventure with an ancient Central American twist.

Characters will arrive in one of four major cities and will be encouraged to join the local guild, also known as coteries: the Eagles, Jaguars, Salamanders, or Vipers. Each coterie has their own area of expertise, and characters will be richly rewarded for working with them. Plots and story events, as well as minor quests, will be centered around traversing the land while surviving the debilitating effects of the incense, slaying monsters, gathering resources, and mapping out the area, with the ultimate goal of locating ancient ruins housing forgotten treasures. Many of these artifacts are valuable and will grant characters abilities upon possessing them, but four of them are special—they're they key to putting an end to the incense once and for all.

A mysterious Western town that's all the talk in underground circles. People go there to make their fortunes in the valuable but taxing dyne mines and are never heard from again. Fortune-seekers, gamblers, people who want to drop off the radar, and those hoping to investigate what's going on all congregate in this small and deadly Western desert town. They find more than they bargained for.

Two rival gangs are vying for control of the dyne mine in the mountain just outside the town. Each night, both gangs put up a Duelist who has agreed to fight for them. They play a dangerous game of Duel Monsters, with the loser agreeing to work for the boss of the winner in the mines. The miners disappear. So does anyone who tries to put a stop to what's happening. As if that wasn't enough, a restless supernatural force sometimes turns harmless card effects real during Duels. This force seems to linger around the cemetery, but it's beginning to permeate through the town the longer the duel gangs fight. What else is it capable of? And will anyone survive its wrath when it reaches full power?

Crash Town is a modern Western panfandom RPG with supernatural overtones. Knowledge of Yu-Gi-Oh! is not required to play! We are just getting set up and figuring out the ropes, and we would love to have you along for the ride!

Now and Then | Character-driven Mystery/Fantasy

[personal profile] nowandthen 2021-11-22 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
NOW AND THEN
❝ Never stop wandering into wonder. ❞
Now and Then is a medium-paced, panfandom RP game set in a fantasy world, with heavy emphasis on investigation and character relations. The game’s plot is heavily character driven and will shape depending on how the player base interacts with the world. Events are planned for each month, alternating with an intensive event one month and a calmer one in the following month. Certain events will have their outcomes- positive or negative- tailored to individuals.

Your characters will be thrown into the world of Lyroa, a beautiful planet with some dark secrets. Players will quickly discover that, despite the planet's beauty, it is dying. Non-native monsters and rifts that seem to extend to other worlds plague Lyroa. Four cities all have intense weather changes between them, despite the fact they all border one another. Not to mention, while there are statues all over the place, it seems to be completely devoid of people. That is... until you showed up.

So, dear hero, what will you do?

Serendipity ☆ A character-focused SOL game with missions, magic, and dream/memory sharing.

[personal profile] serendipitymod 2021-12-04 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)

Serendipity is a panfandom slice-of-life game with a focus on CR and character development, with plenty of opportunities for things to do. In exchange for the granting of their dearest wish, characters are asked to populate a nearly-empty world and create an infrastructure for a populace that is still sleeping in stasis under the Ivory Castle. This world is run by a council formed of the heads of four Houses, each with its own interests and investments. Every second month, characters are invited to vote for initiatives presented by each house that will alter the landscape of the world itself.

Characters will have the opportunity to learn magic, share dreams and memories, and participate in events that will drive and encourage development and exploration of both CR and characters themselves. There will also be missions focused on gathering resources, world building, and safety of the population.

Apps open December 15. ☆ Game opens December 18.

The Rabbit Hole | A Steampunk Wonderland Smut Game

[personal profile] rabbitholemod 2021-11-14 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
❝We’re all mad here.❞
That might be because your nightmares are always lurking about, keen on mingling with your daydreams. But why concern yourself with mere logic in a world where your wildest dreams can take form? It’s your inhibitions that are clearly the problem here, and you’ll find out how quickly they can be stripped away from you—generally beginning with your clothing!

Madness runs riot here in Wonderland, and you’re very much invited to take part. Why, as a matter of fact, you really don’t have much choice, do you?

Dreams only ever present you with the illusion of one, anyway.
Fall into the rabbit hole.
The Rabbit Hole is a surreal panfandom fantasy smut game set in a raunchy steampunk version of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. Quite the mouthful, isn’t it? In Wonderland, characters are encouraged to lose themselves in their desires and even discover new ones. Despite the game’s lighthearted nature, however, it will contain some dark/horror themes, because after all, for every dream, there is a nightmare.

premisegame details/faqreserves
test drive meme

The show must go on…

The Drift Fleet was renowned across the galaxy as the intergalactic reality show to follow. For centuries people have been taken away from their homes, pulled from multiple universes and from multiple times, and watched like a bug under glass for the amusement of faceless aliens. But what was entertainment for some was hope to another - for one race desperately needing help, The Drift Fleet was an answered prayer. For you it will be the start of a whole new adventure.

Welcome to Agra 10.

Where is this planet? Well, no one is quite sure of that, yet. When you arrive, you encounter a glowing orb that harmlessly downloads information directly into your mind. What you learn from it is this:

This planet is now home for you. Centuries have passed since anyone has been able to live here, though. Agra 10 is a dying world thanks to inexplicable and debilitating energy storms that have destroyed everything in their paths, including the Agrii people. Once, this proud race of millions had a thriving world full of advanced and sophisticated technology. The storms cut that number down to hundreds, huddled together in the heart of their capital, Temba.

That is where you are now.

The Agrii are now gone and Temba is the most intact area left (which says a lot about the rest of the planet). The orb is a Data Point left by the departing aliens to tell their story. But how did you get here? Why are you here? What are you supposed to be doing?

That is all for you to discover. The Agrii’s hope and your own survival is now in your hands. This isn’t a show anymore. It’s not a game.

It’s a Revival.

No, but really. What is this game?

The Revival Project is a jamjar game that picks up after The Drift Fleet concludes. While it is a spin-off game, it is only loosely connected to the plot there and anyone can join regardless of their presence in The Drift Fleet. NO prior knowledge of The Drift Fleet is necessary to play.

From what you’ve discovered so far, your character has been brought to Agra 10, a destroyed planet that has been abandoned for centuries. You will soon learn that your mission here is to rebuild the capital city and the rest of this once-proud world. The Agrii, who remain off-world, have found that outsiders are somehow partially immune to the energy storms that massacred their population. Because of this, they will continue to find the best helpers from every universe to bring here. Lucky you are among those chosen.

In addition to rebuilding the planet, there is another task you must undertake. After all of the chaos that has splintered them for decades, the Agrii no longer fully understand what it means to be part of a community. Watching The Drift Fleet was the only lesson they had to help them relearn how to function as a cohesive society once more. So while you work together and even (eventually) travel to distant worlds, know that you have fans watching and learning from your every move. And don’t be surprised if they even reach out (although their English leaves much to be desired).

TRP is structured as a slice-of-life, adventure, and survival game where you have the opportunity to pick whichever of those elements you wish and avoid those that you do not. Whichever path your character travels here is entirely up to you.

As the game progresses, events will uncover larger and perhaps surprising truths about your new home and the race that brought you here. Not all is what it seems. There will be plenty of opportunity to take advantage of the setting; how you do so is yours to decide.

So, as the Agrii would say: Whale Comb, he rows!

Welcome to The Revival Project!

MILLIWAYS BAR: A Panfandom RPG Set At The End Of The Universe

[personal profile] emergency_potato 2021-11-14 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[community profile] milliways_bar is a medium-fast paced, community-based, prose-based panfandom jamjar game, set within the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Universe.

Characters are allowed to move freely from their world to the titular Bar At The End Of The Universe through doors - which on their side of the door might be anything from a porthole to a hole in the ground, and from there can either willingly move back and forth between worlds, stay upstairs at the Bar's inn or be "Bound" or trapped at Milliways without an escape hatch back for any length of time.

Feel free to ask any questions you have, and you may also peruse our cast list. You can also check our our FAQ

In addition to the list below, community members talked about some characters they'd love to see here, and the game is welcoming to any character.

Presently, the game is having a rolling app period, so apps are open for the entire month.

Interest Check: Magitech/Steampunk-Inspired Resistance/Rebellion Game

(Anonymous) 2021-11-14 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
I've been tossing this idea around in my mind for about a year and mentioned it on rpanons a few times through my refining process, and thought I'd bring it here since I'm thinking I might actually pull the trigger on it in the not too distant future.

Basically it would be set in a world where there are a species of magical creature or corrupted mages (haven't decided yet) who extend their lives and reproduce by basically hollowing out peoples' minds and bodies and replacing them. Characters are brought into the game by these creatures, then promptly rescued by a rebel force, brought back to their base camp and asked to join the rebellion for a chance at getting back to their own worlds.

My plan was to post missions every month or every second month (still deciding on this) that can vary from fighting to espionage, sabotage, and reconnaissance, to making propaganda and recruiting, to rescuing new arrivals, and anything else that might pop up in a rebellion. Missions would be handled in a D&D-lite kind of style where I lay out the rough trajectory of how things would go and players can either plot the details out for themselves, or I can offer to interject at various thread intervals with curveballs or direction if players feel more comfortable being hand-held. (I know this sounds very high-effort, my plan is to not play a character in the game and rather handle it more like a GM, which sounds like fun to me rather than work.)

As for other mechanics, I'm waffling on AC either being 10 comments that have to come from mission-related threads, or 15 comments with 10 having to come from mission-related threads. Player cap would be in the 35-40 range, one character per player to start. Players could turn in completed mission threads for points that they could use to get additional character slots or other rewards. Powers would be automatically suppressed but there would be the option to immediately regain powers but with an IC plot-related incentive to keep them suppressed. The TDM would be a magical construct/spell where prospective kidnappees are tested for compatibility to be used for continuing the species before actually kidnapping them.

Would anyone be interested in this? Any thoughts or feedback?

Hmmm, I would be interested in this, especially if you plan to take to GMing only since it definitely seems like it will be a lot of mod involvement necessary to make it work.

Re: Interest Check: Magitech/Steampunk-Inspired Resistance/Rebellion Game

(Anonymous) 2021-11-15 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
The idea of a steampunk styled game is very appealing to me but I'm afraid the rest sounds like a very generic mission-based game like many of the ones we already have. What about your game would make it feel steampunk?

(Anonymous) 2021-11-16 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
tbqh I would be very very very into this if the activity requirement were a ... lot smaller/check-in based/not count based but just 'here is a thread or two I'm in'. I find that comment count requirements are stick instead of carrot for keeping games moving and are more conducive to rp feeling like work/causing burnout.

Interest Check: Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds-based panfandom "Crash Town" game

[personal profile] insaneladybug 2021-11-14 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It suddenly occurred to me that the Crash Town arc from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds could make an intriguing backdrop for a panfandom game. In Crash Town, which is styled like an Old West town, two rival gangs are fighting for control of a valuable mine. They have Duel Monsters card games every night with the prospective laborers battling it out. Whoever loses goes to work for the boss of the winner. One gang is full of bullies and loves striking fear in people's hearts. There are disturbing rumors about what happens in their part of the mine. The other gang ... well, they're much more enigmatic and mysterious. Are they just greedy too, or are they the town's protectors, pushing back against a totalitarian takeover the only way they can? There would be Duelists, gang members, townspeople, miners.... It's a place where people come to escape their pasts, hope to make a fortune, or try to exercise power. Characters could come from the same or different fandoms for various reasons. Since I'd be trying to keep the game in line with canon, the dusk duel system would not be overthrown unless eventually we did a version of the actual Crash Town arc from 5Ds. After that the game could go into rebuilding the town and characters from other fandoms could continue to show up ... but that would be far in the future.

Would anyone be interested in such a set-up? One wouldn't have to be familiar with 5Ds or Yu-Gi-Oh! in general to play. I don't think we would be playing out any card duels move for move.

Interest Check • Mystery/Investigation focused Fantasy RPG

(Anonymous) 2021-11-16 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I know the premise might not be too unique and exciting, but I want to make a game that’s focused on character-driven storytelling and encouraging CR in the comms. My idea was to have a world where characters are plopped into it without really knowing why and both having to try and figure that out, while also discovering there’s something wrong with the world they’ve been put in. As in the “oh there’s tears in space and monsters that aren’t local to this place” sort of strange.

There’s still some kinks and such I need to work on, and this probably won’t be a game I open immediately, but I’d like to hear thoughts/opinions before I start really committing to it.
