[VIDEO] 9 April [SEELIE] A Call to Arms [OPEN]
[ The video is aimed largely past the speaker, to the twichting-writhing forms of three snake-like horned-creatures, the crackles of electricity still racing across their scales as they move. The locket is likely proper up on a rock or tree somewhere, as the speaker is turned to face the worms, his arms up and tattoos glowing electricity crackles from his hands. He is standing on land near a small river-stream near farmsteads. ]
Attention.
I am Kaldur’ahm, recently brought here with the rest of you. I was exploring the rivers and streams nearby and found that several had been blocked by these creatures, and that they were attacking the farms homesteads.
[ One of the worms seems to recover from the temporary paralysis, and lunges towards Kaldur, who leaps away and grasps two devices firmly in his hands. He jumps up again slams downwards on its tail with a water-formed spiked mace, inadvertently severing part of the tip from the worm. He bats the rest of the worm back further away and continues. ]
I am requesting assistance. Several of the civilians have been bitten, and are displaying signs of being in a critical condition due to the creature’s venom. I have been attempting to combat these worms for a few hours, and they grow more resistant to my electric paralyzation with each attempt I try.
[ The severed tail-end starts wriggling violently, and he forms a sledgehammer to knock it back several yards, closer to the still-paralyzed worms. ]
They are quick to regenerate from severed pieces, like echinoderms.
I need those who can help me combat these creatures and those who can help transport the injured to the castle, as well as individuals to help care for those injured by the worms.
{{ooc: The four first comments titled as "Alpha Squad", "Beta Squad", "Gamma Squad" and "Support Team" are for the 'action' part. (Where I will also attempt to GM as worms if people so desire). Feel free to answer the comm itself before immediately jumping into action, or to handwave being assigned to the team you are on and head straight for the action, as well as forming your own little threadlines!
They are more for organization purposes and keeping your squad-mates straight than anything else, and any number of threads can be started below the heading!
NOTE: IC'ly, the Squad assignations are happening on the spot.}}

SUPPORT TEAM
thranduil • castle proper
[ They who leave the castle to fight alongside those in need do so under the watchful eye of the Elvenking, right up until the last of them ride out. It's then that he imprints his own Art, akin to a Shutting Spell, on the grand gatehouse of the castle proper and its portcullis, cementing them in place; nothing will shift them, destroy them or gain entry to those ill-equipped to bear arms within the stronghold's walls. On occasion, when he receives notices via the lockets from those outside, the gates are opened to admit the wounded. They seal with finality each time they close.
He can be found sending those who need weapons to the armoury and arranging the guards atop the outer battlements into a better defensive position where they might keep watch, his crown of leaves left behind in his chambers within the Keep. There is a tent erected in the bailey (at his command via the servants) and within it are no chairs but a table and a large map of the Drabwurld with small figurines placed on it, markers that cite worm-attacks. All in all, he moves swiftly from here to there, as one who has run his own fortress is prone to do. If anyone needs to contact the castle and report in, whether by locket or otherwise, he isn't opposed to being the one that networks the worsening situation. ]
B. locked to legolas
[ He calls his son once the first wave of the injured have returned, tracking his way from the bailey to the infirmary as he uses his inherent Arts to send those who have had the good fortune to already be treated by the healers into a restful sleep. ]
Mas le man cerig?

The worms sounded interesting in and of themselves but more importantly when he'd heard of the lives being lost, he'd wanted to go and help. Given that not only could he neither swing a sword and his riding skills were rusty, at best, it had been impressed upon him at some point along the way, that he would be a liability, not an asset.
This had not sat well but after he'd landed on his ass when his horse, wound up by the activity in the courtyard, had sidestepped out from beneath his attempts to mount for the third time, Charles had been forced to accept it. Making a mental note to brush up on his riding skills, the telepath had brushed off his bruised dignity and watched as the others rode out.
He'd caught sight of Thranduil's tall form making for what looked to be a make shift command center and without hesitation began to work his way in that direction. Should he have waited for a proper invitation before barreling into the Elvenking's tent? Possibly but never let it be said that his own arrogance couldn't carry Xavier straight into a situation without so much as a 'by your leave'.
Pushing aside the flap, he stepped in without hesitation, eyes going almost immediately towards the table, the map and the figurines.]
Do we have representation of each team?
no subject
We do. The squads that have left have already reported their positions. [ His attention swerves with a flicker of eyes to Charles. ] You will be invaluable in noting their progress for us, if the strain is not too great on your mind.
[ How does telepathy affect humans, even. ]
These are their last known locations.

This is not a good situation (no shit, John, he thinks to himself, it's giant goddamn worms). The native forces may be trained but a majority of the new arrivals are not. And John wants to be out there, because he knows he can help -- but the last time civilians were left unattended, his CO killed them all.
And so he stays behind, stalking the battlements, looking out for signs of incoming -- either wounded or worms. He checks on the healers, on Thranduil; most of the time it is no more than passing him in the hallways, a quick nod, but this time, in the tent, he stops. ]
Sir. [ Quick, brief; Reaper doesn't have time to waste on greetings. That he's made it to Staff Sergeant has absolutely nothing to do with his willingness to kiss ass and everything to do with his actions on the field. ] Have you located an area where we can move the civilians and the wounded, if it becomes necessary?
no subject
The Keep is now under my protection, there are rooms enough to spare in the royal suites which stand high enough off the ground-level that the injured will be safe in the event of an emergency. [ His attention finally ticks up. ] The gates will not be breached while my magic lies upon them, yet the battlements are armed and lie outside the reach of my Arts. I would have you command the guards there, if you would take direction.
[ Valar knows he hasn't seen hide nor hair of the so-called High-King and High-Queen when it comes to defending Caer Glaem. It fast became apparent after Kaldur’ahm's message that the Shard-holders themselves were to be charged with every element of action. There are maps in Thranduil's head too, of sorts, and one pours out onto the table where others can see while the other is of the castle and his placement of their forces within it. Grisly as the reason is to put John at the front-line of the bailey's defence, it's realistic. ]
There is no knowing if the beasts will have smarts enough to follow the scent of blood from the wounded to the castle.

She heads to the tent, unsure of what to do, and when she enters she is drawn to the large map in the middle. It's a bit funny, a war map is such a stereotype and this fits perfectly. Her eyes scope out the land and the markings made and then up at the man(?) pacing the tent.]
Seems like you've done this sort of thing before.

My people live within the sanctuary of my Halls in Eryn Lasgalen. A castle in the open air is not so different as one would think, my lady.

In the Great Greenwood, we should reach the river within half a day's ride and the journey has been peaceful so far. You should see this forest, father, it truly resembles home... sans the creatures that live here, but they too are fair.
[ Completely unaware of what's going on at the stronghold. ]

Homesteads in Glaschu have been attacked by great serpents, limbless dragons. You are to return north with your company immediately and lend aid to the coteries of warriors already defending the land; fire is the weakness of the creatures, we believe. The gates to Caer Glaem are shut by my magic. If you must enter, inform me first so that I might open them for you.
Be careful.

[tho of course those worm things don't even compare to the titans he and his friends fight back home.] Are there any tacticians available to talk to?
no subject
You may speak with John Grimm, a soldier whom I have charged with the fortification of the castle in the absence of so many others. If he has no job of great import to give you, you may lend your ears to the reports of those who return. Already, we know that fire is a detriment to the beasts.
[ A nod. ]
If you own the skill to slay them, a fine-tuning of the process would not go amiss.

[ He has just finished speaking to Kaldur. Thranduil, he recalls from having seen his post to the network earlier, is a king. A king who had been asking for information and counsel, as a good king should.
Kevin hesitates. What he's going to say is Tactics 101, and something he would have assumed a king would know except... ]
Are there knights enough in the castle? Because the attack to the north could be a feint. A strategem to draw out the best fighters and leave the stronghold unguarded.
[ Except.
Kevin has just spent the last two days in the company of Legolas, who has spent a good chunk of their journey talking gibberish to trees. And the horses. Fellow's not right in the head. So if the prince is odd, what does that say about the king...? ]
Video
[ Until the High-King and High-Queen make themselves known, at least. ]
There are attacks ranging across both Glaschu and Dorchadas, the Unseelie have unwittingly confirmed as much across the lockets. Whether it is a feint or not, I would prefer to keep competent soldiers close to the castle and will not permit them to leave through the gatehouse while my Arts hold it shut.
[ Lockdown is in effect, until the wounded require admittance. So there are knights at the stronghold, whether they want to be in on the action or not; this Elf has put his foot down on so much impetuous folly. ]

john "reaper" grimm | various
[ John's no healer. They call him Reaper and for good reason, and not just the pun on his last name. But he was born into a family of scientists, and his biology prowess had always been better than his sister's, at least. When the first injuries come in, he goes down (ignores the memories of detachable tongues and a slow change, of blood that was no longer human, of victims becoming the same). He has no real desire to test and see if the poison the creatures have is something C24 will protect him from, but he does want to know how it works. ]
Can't believe I'm saying this, but I wish I had a microscope.
B: battlements
[ When he isn't watching the injured, John's watching everything else. There are fighters still left inside, or so he hopes -- these worms are deadly, and it would be stupid to have everyone out fighting them when there are civilians and wounded and healers left behind. It's why he hasn't gone out, despite the urge to finish things, to help; he may very well be needed here more than he is already.
And so he walks, keeping an eye on the guards and on the area outside of the castle, waiting for news -- good or bad, though he doesn't think to lay odds on which it will be. ]
voice.
[ Kaldur's voice is urgent, a quick update to home base to relay information. ]
Fire has been shown to at least halt some of the creatures regenerative properties when it cauterizes pre-inflicted wounds. We are exploring avenues to see if this leads to a way of possibly eliminating them entirely.
I will keep you posted.

Noted. Do they seem to fear fire at all?

Celebrían | primarily with the wounded
The she-elf has her hair in a messy braid and pinned up to keep it out of the way, part of her dress tied up so she doesn't trip while working. It isn't hard to get her attention but she's not likely to be in one place for long unless she's treating someone.]

[The young dwarf is hauled, protesting and reluctant, towards the healers. His voice is hoarse, the bruising across his neck and what little is visible across his chest making it apparent that the worms attempted to strangle him.
The real issue, however, is the nasty bite on his cheek. It's difficult to tell whether he's been poisoned or not, and while the wound is fairly shallow, it looks bad, dripping blood onto his tunic.
Fili and Bilbo both steer Kili to the nearest, unoccupied healer, and he slumps in defeat.]
It's not that bad, honest, I don't know why I'm even here...
no subject
'Not that bad.' [She repeats with a soft sigh, taking a piece of cloth and wetting it, gently wiping away the blood so she can get a better look at the bite.]
Clearly your companions disagree.

Galadriel | with the wounded
When she's not making demands, if you listen carefully enough, you might hear her singing softly as she works- a song of healing, slow, lilting, and lovely. There's a power to the song and to her voice, but it's something more felt than directly observed, like the tension in the air before a storm.]

There is no great enchanted river here, but he spells him asleep with a touch as easily as any Woodelf has learned to do to outsiders on marchwarden duty.
A soft mallet straight to the senses because Mirkwood doesn't fuck around, yo.Effective and not unkind, but it isn't a pretty song by far. ]no subject
