April Event and Intro Log
Move off the common paths and onto 'shortcuts' or less frequented areas of the vast campus and things are quite different. Here, the plants grow just as experience with this chaotic and often dangerous school would lead you to expect. Broad-leafed stalks stretch upwards, petals unfolding to reveal long jets of fire instead of a sensible stamen. Bushes have large toothy mouths, and viciously swallow anyone who comes near (though they are still just bushes, and the victims end up on the their other side just a few scratches worse for wear). A tree grows quills instead of needles; another sprouts paper airplanes instead of leaves. An extremely aggressive pitcher-plant wanders the pathways, mugging students at knifepoint. It's a jungle out there.
Uh-huh. A pack of bullies with more spell experience than wisdom has banded together to take delight in the suffering of others. They overtly pick on the small, the meek, and those with less magical skill; they torment the larger, the bold, and the powerful in secret. Worse, they are the clever sorts of bullies, who go out of their way not to get caught and not to do anything that can't be played off or explained away. Maybe you attracted their attention by looking weak enough to pick on. Or strong enough to need to be taken down a notch. Or weird enough that you were the Other and thus lesser. Or pretty/handsome enough that you needed to look less attractive so they would look more so. They are pretty good at justifying picking on anyone, really. Are they pestering you by magical tripping or property destruction? Playing keep-away with your class books? Better be careful how you respond; their fathers might hear about it.
Now, to their credit, the assembled people aren't heartless. If a ship truly looks to be in trouble, or if it's smashed to the ground or into a dock, the people of Anastara don't hesitate to help those on board to safety or ensure that they don't go down with their ship. But mostly it's watching the chaos. It IS quite a show...
This month, the team has developed a Sundering Glyph designed to detect any influence of the magic on you. Painted on your arm, it will shine with a bright light when a Sundering effect attempts to influence you. They explain that they believe the Sundered are still subject to either the spell that brought them here or new ones, because they have detected remnants of Sundering magic in the wake of students who have mysteriously disappeared. They ask only that you report back when it lights up. Problem: when the Glyph erupts, either because of the Glyph itself or the spell it has detected... those who bear it find themselves no longer where they started. Perhaps they find themselves in a classroom late at night. Or the wrong dormitory. Or in the Great Hall in their nightshirt. Or for the utterly lowbrow amongst you, a restroom occupied by the wrong gender. Whatever the case: sorry.

[Not even a whole week, and Isa's already 900% done with this place, and impressive record, really.
Being new means that Isa isn't totally used to the layout of the school just yet, and which paths are safe and which ones are just... not worth the trouble.
So it's just his luck when he wanders off the beaten path and into maw of an aggressive bush, into the vines of some particularly grabby plant, or some other plant that seems straight out of Wonderland.]
Bullies, of course
[The bullies call him a freak, try slinging insults based on his bright blue hair and the x-shaped scar on his face, but the thing that really sets the bullies off is that all their insults are met with nothing more than stoic disinterest as Isa pushes past them.
The real trouble starts when they take out their frustration on not being able to rile up Isa on the first vulnerable looking person that passes by.]
Research of the Sundered
[Isa was just going about his day when the glyph started glowing and dumped him unceremoniously on the floor in some other room halfway across the school.
He levels an unamused look at the first person who comes by, hopefully he didn't end up somewhere inconvenient or embarrassing.]
Wildcard
[ Have another idea? Go for it or plot with me at
research
[A boy with brown hair and blue eyes offers the man a smile, almost as though he had been expecting him- or maybe it's just normal]
I don't think I've seen you yet. What House are you in?
no subject
Eiather...
I didn't interrupt you, did I?
no subject
[Eleven brightens, and looking him over, does in fact recognize the coat]
..Do you know Xion and Axel by any chance?
no subject
[Yes, he does ever so slightly emphasize the name Lea, forgive him for not being totally on board with still using the name "Axel"]
I'm Isa.
no subject
My name is Eleven. I'd like to think of them as friends as well, but Xion doesn't seem so sure. It's nice to meet you.
no subject
Likewise.
And be patient with Xion... She's sensitive and hasn't had an easy life.
no subject
[He'd heard a great deal about that, and his heart goes out to her. He hopes to help her, but she doesn't have any of that for herself and can't seem to conceptualize it. But that's all right, he'll show her one day]
How are you settling in? I see you've met the researchers already. Do you need help finding anything?

Plants
Like now, for example. Why even have all this aggressive plants out in the open where students could stumble on them? Did they intend to encourage the student's magical abilities by putting semi-lethal things on the grounds to force them to use their skills or face serious harm? He thought that was the Organization's way of doing things.
Regardless of the reasoning though, Lea had come looking for his friend and found him walking down a somewhat secluded path... and apparently unaware of the knife-wielding pitcher plant that was approaching behind him.]
Isa, watch out behind you!
no subject
[He looks back at Lea's voice only to see...
Well...
Exactly what Lea described. He manages to dodge it when it lunges for him, but makes it pretty mad, because it's apparently out for blood, or something.]
What nonsense is this?
no subject
Knew this had to be good for something...
[The plant didn't seem too damaged by the attack, but it was successfully distracted from attacking Isa... by turning its stabby wrath on Lea instead.]
I'd heard there was some crazy plant mugging people on the back paths. Guess we found it.
[Lea dodged an attempt by the plant to stab him.]
Uh... any ideas how we take care of this without proper weapons?
no subject
[Easier said than done, of course.]
We need to wear it down.
no subject
How'd it even get a knife anyway?
[Lea deflected a glancing blow from the knife with his textbook, dodging to one side and aiming a swift kick at the bottom of the plant's pitcher-shaped body.]
And seriously, you're a plant! What are you even going to do with all the stuff you've been stealing, huh?
[Yes, Lea is yelling at a plant. Clever distraction, or just typical lea? You decide.]
no subject
[That kick did seem to set the plant off kilter.]
...Lea, I think you're on to something!
no subject
[Lea noticed that the kick seemed to have an effect, the plant's next swipe with the knife being significantly sloppier and easier to dodge.]
I think you're right... I'll distract it, you give it another good kick! If we disorient it enough, maybe it'll drop the knife.
no subject
[Still, Lea's plan sounds like it could work.]
Keep that book ready just in case it needs a good whack afterwards.
[Well, distract away, Lea.]

Plants
So she just smiles at the... Newcomer, seeming rather upbeat for someone in their situation.]
So, this is fun, huh?
no subject
You've got a strange definition of the word "fun".
[They fall through the other side of the bush, no worse for wear except for some minor scratches and some leaves sticking in Isa's long hair.]
no subject
[The deadpan expression doesn't seem to deter her. She's more focused on the leaves in his hair, anyway. She gestures to her own hair.]
You've kind of got a mess going on there.
no subject
Are... homicidal plants... common around here?
[Because this is the second time in as many days that he's been attacked by a plant.]
no subject
[She gets to her feet before elaborating on that.]
I've only been here a month or so, and I haven't seen anything like this until recently. But the weather was pretty miserable for the last few weeks, so it could be that this is how it's going to be until fall.
no subject
[Isa also gets to his feet.]
...
I should probably introduce myself, my name's Isa.
no subject
[She offers her hand.]
I'm Kamala. Nice to meet you, Isa.
Bullies of course - Because I can't resist with that starter.
Because V is more than willing to get both mad AND even.
So when the first insult comes about how weird V's familiar looks - at the moment like a poorly dyed canary with a fake beak, V's head tilted slightly. "Come again?"
"I think they're making fun of us, boss," Willard said.
"Really? I didn't suspect they could possibly be as stupid as they looked," V remarked. Which was when the first of them tried to throw a frustrated punch....
