I assume you have all educated yourselves on what Philemon's intentions and goals are for this city in his latest charade, or you would not be wasting your time humoring that ludicrous and insipid excuse for literature.

Now, what about Nyarlathotep? Have any of you figured out anything about his plans for this city, or are you more concerned with petty child's play?

I missed meeting the guy while we were in the Tower, but if his goal is wanton destruction, I imagine he's got a hand in pitting the Government and the Anoli against each other. And the books aren't that much of a waste of time. They're very quick reads.

He wishes for destruction so I'm sure "wanton" falls well under that category.

Curtness of text and story aside, most people treat them with the attention an avatar of Satan deserves.

It is possible to get too hung up on them, I guess. Anyway, you seem to know these guys. What exactly is Nyarlathotep after? Death and destruction specifically, or is he more of a make everyone alive and miserable type of monster?

In the most simplistic view, he wants to destroy humanity. In a more complicated term, he wants us to destroy ourselves to prove a point-- I suppose you could call him something like the Thanatos drive. That is, the desire of humanity to seek their demise.

Definitely sounds like someone who'd manipulate a bunch of anarchists. And who knows, maybe the ones they're rebelling against. Some of the government's responses haven't made much sense either...but that's pretty normal for a large organization.

You think Nyarlathotep has a hand in the government as well?
It's not inconceivable, but it's a hefty assertion to make.
What have they done that doesn't make sense?

Their plan to draw out the Anoli at the stadium was...well, maybe we shouldn't talk about this over the network.

...I see. Is there anything safer you'd prefer?

Let's see if private filters are safe enough. I can handle myself if I make anyone angry. The government intentionally used the tournament to provoke the Anoli into showing their hand, with pretty much the results you'd expect. From what I've been able to gather, nearly 300 people in total died - not nearly as many as could have, but far more than needed to.

Don't worry. I can assure you, I can handle myself as well.

Hm. No, now that you bring this up, it's entirely possible Nyarlathotep is lurking there was well, unless everyone's completely overreacting.
Doing something like that in an area full of civilians is just asking for a backlash.

It was a sacrifice of a few for the sake of the many. A perfectly feasible choice for the government of a big city like this, but at the same time, not the right one.

Feasible-- but incredibly foolish. I'm amazed they didn't predict a kind of scandal like this getting out.
If they're trying to be risk-takers, it wasn't a very smart one to try out.

I agree. Foolish, but not unreasonable. The question is, whose idea was it?

I'm not sure where to begin on that. Discovering the root of the problem might get us a step in the right direction though.
I would guess it'd need some kind of high clearance-- the chief of police, maybe? Or a captain? Some higher up with militaryesque authority?

The little bit of direction us "Visitors" was from the mayor herself. Maybe we should ask her?

It's a bit odd since this isn't a civil affair, though given the importance of it, I suppose it wasn't surprising.
Yes-- I think asking her about it would be best course of action.
