[Action- in front of Daemoniac Inc. Cancer District]

[Walk through the Cancer Ward, and you will probably spot the large building in the middle of it, a state-of-the-art structure that reflects the technological wizardry of the area. One might marvel at it, and the locals do seem to be doing so as their eyes wander over it, but there is one person who does not seem to be marveling at it at all.]

[You might look over this young man sitting on a chair outside an internet cafe, with his disheveled appearance and general unkempt hair that scream "possibly homeless or worse", but his gaze, strangely enough, never seems to leave the building. Look closer, and you'll see that the knuckles on his hand grasping the cup of water before him are white, he's grasping the thing so tightly. And his stare holds a level of malice that contrasts harshly with his general harmless appearance...]

[This is not the image of a man who is happy about what he is looking at, at all.]

[Sam Erstwhile appears on screen, frowning sadly- while everyone is busy with the hubbub of the tournament coming up, it seems like he'll be the only person who will always be miserable, no matter what.]

Look, um...I hate to ask this, because it's totally unrelated to anything about the tournament, but I felt I really needed a answer to the question as soon as possible.

[He lets out a sigh as he scratches his shaggy head.]

W-what's the best way to get rid of nightmares?

*Ooh look who's on your video feed, Sam! Selphie smiles slightly, shaking her head slowly*

You gotta smile first, for a start! That's the number one rule!

*She might be smiling, but she holds up a finger and wags it like she means serious business*

A-alright...

[He actually seems to take that seriously, and he does his really pathetic attempt of a smile again, but after a while he drops it, shaking his head.]

It's no use.

*Selphie can't help but look amused ~ this guy can be too funny sometimes*

Okay..or failing that, it's always really useful to talk to people about them. Makes it seem less real.

But what if there are some really personal stuff in there? Like, I don't want people to think of me worse if I share it, and they are pretty scary, so...

But...they're nightmares, right? It's not like your brain can help it, and they aren't gonna hurt anyone. I'm not easily scared anyway!

Yes, but...

[A defeated sigh, as if he realizes that it's a foolish effort to argue against her.]

Fine. But maybe somewhere private? I mean, I don't want just anyone to hear about it.

*Aww, and Selphie takes that defeated sigh with a knowing smile, nodding her head gently. She can be serious, and she shows that just for a moment, an honest look in her eye*

*Then she's back to the usual super excitement*

Just say when and where and I'll be there!

O-o-okay.

[A small nod, and he thinks.]

Maybe somewhere in the Capricorn District? I know they have a small forest there.

A forest? Isn't that kinda a creepy place for talking about your nightmares?

*All the same, Selphie smiles and accepts*

Alright. But how will I know what part of the forest to find you in?

No? I thought it would be peaceful, actually...one of my favorite childhood places to be was a forest near a lake when I visited my grandfather, you know.

[A shrug.] I'll just stand at the entrance. And if you can't find me, I'll come find you.

*The look on Selphie's face is one of sheer amusement as she wonders how much he realises that he sounds like a fairy tale*

Alright! That sounds good to me. Just say the word and I'll be there!

[Yeah, a fairy tale with a Lovecraftian horror living at the bottom of said lake SUCH A QUAINT PLACE, REALLY.]

Heh, um, alright...I'm headed there over now.

*All so enchanting! Selphie smiles and gives a nod*

Sure thing! I'll be there soon!

*And, because this is a friend emergency, Selphie's quicker than usual at getting herself out her apartment*

[And he's here, rubbing his arm as he gazes around at anyone who passes by, seeing whether its her or not.]

[When he eventually does see her, he gives her a slight wave.]

You...you came really quickly. I'm surprised.

*Selphie smiles as she heads on over to Sam, glad that she was able to find him*

Hey!

*She pats his arm lightly where he was rubbing it, just a small sign of reassurance*

Well I couldn't just leave you here on your own, could I? Even if you are little red riding hood!

Me? Little red riding hood?

[That does elicit a small laugh from him, though not for the reasons she was probably expecting. No, he's no little red riding hood. At his heart, he's the wolf sitting in bed dressed in human clothes, waiting for visitors to come along and keep him company, and he knows it.]

[But he does give a nod, even appearing bashful as he scratches the back of his head.]

Dunno why you would say that...let's just hope we don't meet any wolves on the way through, alright?

*Selphie really hadn't expected that laugh, not at all, so she finds herself giving her own awkward little laugh. He seemed to be in a better humour though, and that encourages her to smile*

Hmm..you're right. You're not very little and you don't have a cloak!

*Grinning, Selphie turns to face the forest head on*

Alright! Let's go!

Maybe I should get a cloak...some of them look pretty cool, no?

[And he turns to the forest too, giving a determined nod.]

Alright...let's head out.

[He begins to walk, though he doesn't move too far, as he's waiting for Selphie to catch up.]

A cloak...?

*Selphie tilts her head as she looks at him carefully, actually considering for a moment whether or not it would suit him. Then she shakes her head*

Yeah...maybe...maybe not.

*She quickly catches up with him, though her legs are shorter, so she does have to walk a little faster than he does*

So...you wanna tell me bout these nightmares? Or are we just going for a romantic scroll?

Whatever you say...

[He's about to speak when she mentions that, and he's quite taken aback, gazing at her with almost bashful confusion.]

W-w-what? Romantic???

*Selphie stopped walking at once in response to Sam's reaction. She bursts into laughter, shaking her head*

Relax..it's a joke.

*She straightens herself up and smiles*

Don't worry about it.

O-okay...

[He glances away, as if embarrassed.]

Yeah, um, so...nightmares. Right. [He looks over back at her again.] This is your last chance to say "no", if you want...

*Selphie glances at Sam as he glances away, and his apparent embarrassment in turn makes Selphie feel a little embarrassed. So that leaves her looking away when he looks back at her*

No, I'm ready.

*She does turn to him then, and gives a definite nod*

[He lets out a sigh, and there's a pause as he tries to figure out how to begin.]

Well, um...in order to understand it a bit better, I need to tell you about my life back home. There, I-I worked for this man. Um, who was kind of a big deal because he owned a company which was really big and owned a whole lot of other companies and...you get the idea. He was really mysterious, though...like, he never showed his face to the world and just stayed in his office, like 24/7.

[He visibly deflates.]

And...well, he kind of ruined my life.

*Selphie listens carefully, only occasionally glancing at Sam, knowing that it might be easier for him to speak his mind that way*
