WHERE: De Chima Housing
WHEN: backdated a bit
WHAT: Poe looks for one person and finds another
WARNINGS: none anticipated
Poe had been going to the Rogue One house as often as possible since he'd returned, to check on Cassian and the others. It wasn't as often as he liked - as work had him on base most days quite late, and so it was all he could do to go home and pass out.
But he still made an effort.
The first time he'd noticed Cassian was gone was when he went to the house after Kay and Bodhi had left for Odin's island, and not found anyone at home. He'd tried to send Cassian a message to see where he was, but got a notification to say that the number was no longer in service. He knew what that meant.
He tried not to worry about it, for a few days. He'd come back, after all, there was no reason that Cassian wouldn't. But a few days passed and Cassian's number still didn't connect.
He wasn't entirely sure why he had to go check the house one more time. Something about the possibility of Cassian coming in under a different name, or a different number, but there was a chance that he could show up without Poe knowing. He hadn't told Bodhi or Kaytoo about Cassian being missing (knew that Kaytoo must have had an idea, thanks to the trackers), but the longer it went the more he felt responsible for doing so.
So.
One last attempt.
He let himself into the house with very little fanfare - he'd had a set of keys for a while and often walked in like it was his own house, anyway. Today, a small, round, white and orange droid rolled in behind him, burbling in binary and asking if Poe wanted him to scan for Cassian.
"It's alright, buddy, I've got it." He closed the door behind him and stepped further into the house, calling out as he did so. "Hey, Cass, want to pull a miracle on me and tell me that you're back?"

Jyn stepped out of her room to investigate the intrusion. She didn't recognize him or his companion. Perhaps the duo were her roommates' friends. They must be a pretty close friends to have such easy access to their place. Still, that fact didn't make her any less apprehensive. She instinctually readied herself for a scuffle even though she didn't think she really needed to.
"Hello?" Jyn called out to the stranger from her doorway. She intended to answer his question, but the thought of missing Cassian by mere days was still difficult for her to accept. Of all people, he would have been the person she'd be happiest to see again. So she refrained from denying Cassian's presence. The man would find his answer eventually without her help.

He couldn't help the overwhelming relief that flooded his system. Jyn was back. Jyn was back, which meant that when Cassian returned, he'd be alright, and it meant Cassian would return, and all the planning and the planting trees and the building a house would be worth it, because then all his friends would be here, and safe, stuck in a time away from time.
A peace.
So he grinned at her, with full and complete recognition, and despite the fact that she'd groaned at him for hugging her last time, he was already crossing the floor, arms out to do it again.

Unable to decide either way, she stood silently and awkwardly held out her arms to embrace him back. If Bodhi trusted him, surely he'd be someone she could trust as well.

"Force, it's good to see you." He let go, though his hands remained on her shoulders and he gave her a once-over, up and down, taking her in. Yeah. Okay. Not dead, not dying, not disintegrating-- Okay, okay.
"Up and down so many times I was worried you wouldn't show up again. You okay? Do Kay and Bodhi know you're here? Did Cassian come back with you?"
no subject
"Bodhi and Kay know I'm here, yes. Cassian did not come with me."
She shrugged his hands off her shoulders and took a small step back and out of his reach.
"Listen, um..."
She scratched her ear anxiously.
"...I'm afraid I don't remember you."
It was a simpler response than "I've been hearing about how much I don't remember and am tired of explaining over and over again. Whatever I had done before is no longer relevant."

He'd heard about it. When Kylo Ren had gone and left, he'd changed somehow and he'd heard about other imPorts coming and going and forgetting everything in between. His lips thinned to a line, a slightly glazed look coming to his face.
"... Right. So that- was probably- pretty awkward." He took another step back and then raised a hand to rub through his hair, looking at the ground. "Well, shit. Uh. Do you remember anything about Earth, or are you just...?" He trailed off, but he didn't actually have to wait for her answer.
He could see it for himself.
He let out a long breath.
"... Right, sorry." He put out a hand. "Commander Poe Dameron, Black Squadron Leader, Resistance - 34 ABY." Which probably didn't mean anything to her either, and he made a bit of a face and then added; "34 years after your mission on Scarif. ... Good to meet you. Again."
