It's the most wonderful time of the year~
WHO: Anna and Kristoff (also Sven :3)
WHERE: Maurtia Falls and the somewhat nearby Poconos
WHEN: December 27th
WHAT: Anna has a Christmas surprise for the ice harvesting duo!
WARNINGS: Fluff. Shameless fluff.
Dress warmly! Like, Arendelle in winter warm! Anna had texted the night before their mysterious gift in the guise of an open ended venture. And don't be late!
Anna had told Kristoff that he, and his reindeer companion, needed to be ready to go at 6:00 AM sharp. At precisely that time the princess appeared on the doorstep to his house, practically bouncing as she waited on the porch. It was early and she was reasonable, certainly Kristoff's roommates wouldn't appreciate being woken up by the sound of an insistent early morning doorbell. Instead, when it was 6:05 AM, she would gently knock on the door if Kristoff hadn't made an appearance.
The sing song sound of Anna's voice drifted through crisp, yet still oddly warm, winter morning in Heropa while she waited. Whatever the tune was, it was forever cheery and upbeat.

"Well. Good morning," he started, sounding mildly impressed. He shrugged his bag (containing his warmer clothes and maybe a Christmas present or two) further up onto his shoulder and stepped out onto the stoop, locking the door behind him. He then started off towards the side of the house, where he'd managed to set up his reindeer. "C'mon. Let's drag poor Sven out of bed."
Not all that difficult a task, really. With Anna's presence and an offered carrot for breakfast, they were all ready to go. Now it was just a matter or what they were meant to do, exactly. Might as well start there, right?
"So... What're we doing, exactly?"

As such, she'd come prepared and had Sven's Christmas present in hand when they rounded the house. The princess had tugged a plastic bag with a stick-on bow out from her oversized shoulder bag, holding it out for both Sven and Kristoff's inspection. Organic, hybrid, purple carrots.
"I saw these and I thought they were the perfect Christmas present!" Anna tugged one out and held it for Sven to consider trying. "What do you think?"
Once that was done, she turned back to Kristoff with a glittering, and possibly mischievious, gaze.
"Well, we're headed to Maurtia Falls. It's, um, north of here. But we can use the Porter thing!" Truth be told, the Porter was strange and unfathomable to Anna and she'd never used it for personal reasons until earlier that month. But. Those trips, culminating in this one, were worth it! "I got permission for Sven to come through too so it's all settled. Also cold. Up there I mean. So when we arrive we can break out jackets and boots and all that. Ready to go?"

Kristoff grimaced at the carrots, because... "What? What's wrong with them?" It wasn't as if he thought Anna would buy bad carrots. They just looked funny. Sven even looked a little skeptical as Kristoff took the bag and opened it, right up until the (former?) ice harvester took an experimental bite of the first carrot he'd pulled out. The final verdict was a shrug and a smile as he passed the root vegetable to his animal friend, who gleefully started munching away. The first one finished, the beast paused to nuzzle at Anna in enthusiastic thanks before turning to beg for another treat. With a mock look of disapproval, Kristoff handed one over.
"Yeah," he answered her question as he shrugged his bag off of his shoulder, depositing the bag of carrots inside. More for later, you know. He seemed to check through his things, but he paused in zipping the bag back up. "Um... Do you want your present now or later?"

Maybe just a bit of a princess huff in there because that's sort of Anna's deal. She's clearly rather pleased when both Kristoff and Sven approve. The reindeer is given several affectionate pets as an additional reward. In spite of her mannerisms, Anna really is easy to please. That much is evident by the surprised blinking and suddenly shy smile she has when Kristoff mentions a gift.
Glancing down, she hopes that the flush in her cheeks is attributed to that pesky solar absorption and nothing more. Attempting to contain herself, though she looks eager in spite of efforts to the contrary, Anna shrugs.
"You didn't have to! But. Since you did. Now? I mean. If you want. But later is okay too!"
It's not so much that she expected Kristoff to get her a gift, or that she didn't. Christmas wasn't so much a thing back home and couple that with living like an agorophobic thanks to Elsa's hidden powers? Accepting gifts is something new. Moreover, she knows Kristoff is a man of limited means so that he'd do something like that for her is incredibly touching. Rather than articulately express any of this though, Anna just grins sort of stupidly.

It started off simply enough. The box contained a simple chain and pendant, displaying a small depiction of a crocus. He tried not to watch her open it too closely, continuing to shift idly through his pack. It was probably self-explanatory, but in order to help provide a lead-up... "I thought, you know, since crocuses are part of Arendelle's sigil, and that's... Well, I guess it's basically a symbol for your family, right? And it was pretty."
The tougher part, though... He handed her another box, smaller, lips pressed together in nerves but trying to quirk into an easy smile. "And this is just... If you want, it'll fit on the chain, too."
The second box contained a pendant shaped like an antler, which was the closest thing Kristoff could figure to a simple symbol that could represent him, having never had a family sigil or anything like that. That one, he'd rather wait for a reaction to, rather than trying to sputter out an explanation. As anticlimactic as it might be, it was both an attempt at a confession and a question. To say he liked Anna was an understatement, though he was a little frightened of finding the correct words, and... Well. If she felt similarly, he was of the opinion that they ought to start doing something about it. That, and Karen had warned him that she might lose interest if he failed to act completely.
So. There you go. Action. For his part, Kristoff was still avoiding looking too closely at her, instead watching Sven's hooves as the deer shuffled, both awaiting either approval or denial.

"Ohhhh," Anna breathes softly. She even manages to tear up. "I haven't had one since I left mine with Wandering Oaken."
Delicate fingers brush over the shape of the leaves and petals in the center, tracing them reverently.
"I love it!" she gushes, throwing her slender frame at Kristoff bodily in an enthusiastic hug before he even has the chance to give her the second part of the gift. Anna doesn't really move off him, only barely so her feet are on the ground and they can both breathe, to open the second. The symbolism isn't lost on her and she blushes but wraps her arms back around him. This time the hug is more timid and punctuated with the shyest of kisses on the cheek. "Perfect. Help me put them on?"
no subject
Then there was the second hug, easier to physically handle, and... He'd never been kissed before, even on the cheek, at least if one didn't count his long-dead parents or Bulda. He wasn't at all sure of what to do with it, but he could feel his face go at least slightly red, and his gaze might have lingered on her lips a beat too long while she asked her question.
He snapped out of it, though, smiling quick and nervous. "Y-yeah," he answered. "Of course." And he took the necklace from her carefully, taking a try or two at fastening the thing before he actually managed it. Beside him, Sven snorted in amusement, and Kristoff frowned at his longtime friend over Anna's shoulder. He did managed it eventually, though.
"There you go."

At their second touch, Anna blushed as well in spite of being the instigator. She was nervous, for a scant moment, that perhaps Kristoff hadn't intended anything at all with the additional charm and she was being presumptuous. Fortunately, it appeared that the object of her affections didn't mind the timid kiss in the least.
After slipping the antler charm onto the chain, she handed it off to Kristoff and spun around so he could clasp the necklace.
"Perfect," she murmured, a hand coming up to fiddle with the charms. It was an old habit that resurfaced instantly with a familiar weight around the princess' neck. "Thank you."
Anna's eyes settled on Kristoff, his face and more specifically his lips too for a long moment. Silence hung between them until Anna was certain her flush could no longer be blamed on her solar power. Glancing away she giggled, just a bit shrill, and cleared her throat.
"Right. We should be on our way! There's still the whole day to go!" In spite of the awkward, Anna does manage to summon up the gumption to take Kristoff's hand and lead him around to the front of the house. "We could take my scooter if Sven can keep up? Otherwise, it's not a terribly long walk to the Porter and at least it's nice out?"
no subject
When the question of the scooter came up, Kristoff didn't have to think long on an answer. "I think walking would be better. Even in winter, it's pretty warm for Sven, and I don't know if he should run if it's not necessary. He'll get too hot."
She was right in that it wasn't too long of a walk, though, and they could accomplish it hand-in-hand, which was sort of nice. That, plus the added bonus of his not having to balance awkwardly on Anna's weird little vehicle of choice.

The weather was lovely and Anna savored it before they moved on. She did love winter but the pleasant breeze and cheery sun were nice and had to be left behind for a more wintery excursion.
"It won't be this warm for long," Anna promised the reindeer the longer they walked. "You're going to love the Poconos!"
Apparently that was a place. Or a thing. Maybe both.
