Snake eggs have a very interesting feel to them. Once I get some more equipment, I should be able to test different properties of the shell. Does this work like the goats did? Will I be able to get more at cost?

Those last two questions would be really good if I intended to let you do anything that'd require us needing a second, third, or God forbid fourth egg.

Which I don't.

Honestly, at this point, my intentions begin and end with "Keep Sherlock from breaking the egg". The second goal, "Get the thing to actually hatch", is a distant, dream-like second, so far off and hazy under all the different ways you could botch this assignment.

Sometimes I feel like getting through the day unscathed is an assignment at this school. I'm erring on the side of a professor leaping out and hurling failing grades at anyone who ends up with egg on their face. Figuratively or literally.

What, exactly, did you mean when you were talking about testing the shell's properties?

[personal profile] 3houseswatson 2013-02-07 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, well, then it's a real shame that absolutely none of that is going to happen!

I know you didn't, but I did. Where are you?
3houseswatson: (What is happening with these lips)

[personal profile] 3houseswatson 2013-02-07 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I'm suing you for custody.

Is anyone milling around? As much as I want to liberate that egg from you, I don't want to get caught either.

"Come and try"? If you enlist Tony to play keep-away with that egg, Sherlock, I swear... things will not be pretty.
3houseswatson: (A lot to take in)

[If the written word could sigh heavily, boy oh boy would it be all over this reply.]

Fine. Knowing your typical Ravenclaw student, they might let me by when I explain that I'm actually trying to salvage this assignment. I'm sure the goat fallout is still fresh in their memories.

I'm on my way. Don't do anything that... you know, actually, just don't do anything.
3houseswatson: (oh. balls.)

[Not really knowing the proper etiquette for dorm trespassing, John settles for giving a small knock as he enters the 6th year dorm.]

You know, when you told me the answer, I was expecting the riddle to be dog-related, not about guessing the names of a bunch of historical wizards' surnames and putting the first letter of each in the right order.

Shows why I'm not in Ravenclaw. I'd get to the door while I was exhausted, have no idea what it's asking of me, and yell obscenities at it until dawn. Possibly while kicking it, depending on circumstances.

[He walks over and peers at the egg. It certainly looks okay, seeming quite comfortably warm beneath the magically-powered lamp, but how long can that last?]

Well... I'm glad it seems fine. I think I'd still prefer to hang onto it most of the time, though.

[He sits at the offered spot, taking in the general clutter. He doesn't comment, however; Sherlock had told him about that, after all, as well as the... unusual sleeping arrangements that involves.]

Slightly off-topic, but you've reminded me. Do you think perhaps we have our test subjects? I'd like to examine their behavior in response to both the Mendelssohn and Berg violin concerti once they've hatched, and I'm curious to see what you might come up with as well.

A domestic bird will still chirp needlessly, and it will coo at its mate or even owner. But yes, considering snakes feel vibrations in their bellies, perhaps certain intervals can be experimented with. I'm curious to see if the tritone being called the "devil's interval" is more than simple superstition.

[personal profile] edle_gestalt 2013-02-07 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, would you mind taking the tritone one then? Admittedly I've started to think of the egg as our little baby. I don't want to ruin its life. I'd like to see if the repeated major third a few times a day produces a more docile child hatchling.
