Snake eggs have a very interesting feel to them. Once I get some more equipment, I should be able to test different properties of the shell. Does this work like the goats did? Will I be able to get more at cost?

Which I don't.

What, exactly, did you mean when you were talking about testing the shell's properties?

You really think I opted for this "assignment" for the chance to hatch a baby snake?

I know you didn't, but I did. Where are you?

"Come and try"? If you enlist Tony to play keep-away with that egg, Sherlock, I swear... things will not be pretty.

Fine. Knowing your typical Ravenclaw student, they might let me by when I explain that I'm actually trying to salvage this assignment. I'm sure the goat fallout is still fresh in their memories.
I'm on my way. Don't do anything that... you know, actually, just don't do anything.

And do be quick about it, John. This is immensely dull.

You know, when you told me the answer, I was expecting the riddle to be dog-related, not about guessing the names of a bunch of historical wizards' surnames and putting the first letter of each in the right order.

[He hops up. Yay, John is in his territory ^_^ ... Actually, he could have picked up a bit. He scoots some books and supplies off his trunk to make a place for John to sit if he likes. His bed has more parchments and books on it with the snake egg on a table under a heating lamp next to a cauldron bubbling away.]
There, see, the egg's just fine.
[Action]
[He walks over and peers at the egg. It certainly looks okay, seeming quite comfortably warm beneath the magically-powered lamp, but how long can that last?]
Well... I'm glad it seems fine. I think I'd still prefer to hang onto it most of the time, though.
[He sits at the offered spot, taking in the general clutter. He doesn't comment, however; Sherlock had told him about that, after all, as well as the... unusual sleeping arrangements that involves.]
