[GP] Shoot that poison arrow

None of the guests noticed when the spiky-haired man-child in jeans and purple t-shirt, wrists wrapped in cheap leather and metal bracelets, arrived at the Madonna Inn a few hours before midnight on February 13. That, in itself, wasn't all that surprising. Eros, otherwise known as Danny Valentine, had millennia of experience doing his job without being spotted.

What was surprising was that the dude at the front desk did see him. Tall and Nondescript waved him over and then gave him a room number 'in case you wanted to rest'. But Danny didn't.

Want to, or rest. He spent the time before the clock struck midnight polishing his love gun. Not like that. He'd find a girl to spend his nameday with. He always did. No, this little beauty was made by Hephaestus himself. It shot love darts that disappeared on contact.

At midnight, kitted out with more love darts than there were people in this pink and gold monstrosity, Danny left his room and shot the first person he saw--and didn't wait to see what would happen.

No point getting a slow start. He had a lot of work to do.

Ignis - for Yasmeen, Vax, and OTA - in the kitchens, naturally

[personal profile] st_eadfast 2017-02-14 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
When one lived one's life relying on the four senses other than sight, one became sensitive to atmosphere, but it still took a few hours before Ignis realized that something was very different about the hotel. Perhaps it was because he had, as usual, woken up at or before dawn and made his way to the kitchens to prepare for everyone else to wake up wanting breakfast. Or wake up wanting lunch. Or what have you. But as the other residents of the Inn started to wake up and move around, Ignis noticed that the sounds were quite a bit different. Thumps in different places, moans and noises rather than quiet conversation-buzz. Bluntly rather fleshy noises.

It was... disconcerting. Not embarrassing, no - while his own life had always been too busy and separate to allow distraction, he'd spent enough time with others whose lives and personalities allowed for such to have learned how to politely ignore. Still, it was private lives apparently being played out in public areas, and 'disconcerting' was a good word.

Still, the habits he'd learned as a youth stood him in good stead again. Walk around the couples, politely ignore the goings-on, make small adjustments to ensure their lives would be easier during the times they came up for air. Sandwiches, cut vegetables, and cut fruit suitable to be eaten quickly or left for 'later'. Soup that could be reheated without damaging the flavor. And plenty of coffee, though that was largely for him, because that was one pleasure he could have.

Vax both knew the rather quiet, bespectacled man who had taken to working in the kitchen, and didn't, in that way that you came to know the various shopkeepers in your home town. It was his own shit manners really, their little pink purgatory small enough that he ought to have exchanged better than barest pleasantries with one of the very few here who seemed concerned with keeping people fed in something other than chicken. He should've asked the fellow's name by now, at least.

But today of all days, he thought a bit grimly against the aggressive cacophony of heart shapes and babies wielding bows about the space, was not the day to get overly chummy.

He was going to have a bite, and then get out again, before anything had the opportunity to get weird as it had with Angua.

"Pardon, friend," he directed at the chef. "Someone's beat me to the last of those sandwiches you had going. Any chance there's more back there?"

The voice was familiar-ish - one of the many residents Ignis had heard but not spoken to particularly, for a certainty. Not that the list of those Ignis had particularly spoken to was especially long, of course - when one spent the better part of a decade in total solitude, living among others again clearly took a longer adjustment than was entirely polite.

Ah well. It was hardly important, this was not a personal conversation. He turned his head enough to be facing the voice, as it was more polite to 'look' where you were speaking than not. "Certainly. If you've a request, I'll prepare it directly. The pantries are well-stocked, so I daresay most reasonable requests can be accommodated."

Vax gave a him a friendly little jot of a smile - he had a handsome voice, this one, and it occurred to him he couldn't remember having heard it before. What a waste. Hand him a book of heraldry, and he'd make it -

The half-elf felt a strange shiver of all too delightful sensation prickle along the side of his neck, so that he cocked his head slightly around it to look at the trim, meticulous fellow in an altogether different manner entirely. The proud styling of his soft, dark hair, the sheer pretty masculinity of those aristocratic features... How in all the realms had he not truly looked at him before? He stared outright, and was hopelessly grateful for the opportunity. Vax'ildan couldn't think of anyone having captured his interest so completely since the Briarwoods. And at that moment, he couldn't begin to see what what could possibly be wrong with that.

He sucked in a long breath, savoring it, and exhaled to gently slide one of his hands over one that the chef had placed on the counter space between them. His fingers pushed a soft stroke into the gesture, not twining their fingers so much folding his hand over the other loosely. "You know what it is, that I'd really like?" His voice had gone a touch lower, though still quite easy and casual, his soft smile in the words. He'd not truly flirted with a man after his dear Gilmore, and he suddenly felt all that he'd been missing in that.

"Ah...." Ignis was slightly taken aback. Not because the tone was unfamiliar, because it wasn't; he'd heard it many times, from Prompto to whatever current crush, from various girls and women to Gladio, from Iris to Noctis, or Noctis when speaking of Lunafreya. No, the tone itself was very familiar, that warm smiling tone. Put simply, it had never been directed at him, of all people.

"I... don't?" The words were honest enough and close enough to a question to almost make him cringe, more so because their not-quite-joined hands were also making Ignis wish he had anything... clever, maybe, to say. Certainly an observation that the other man had an extremely pleasant voice would be out of place, likewise anything along the lines of suddenly being rather pleased that the practical decision to eschew gloves in this kitchen was now allowing him to really feel....

Nonsense. He tried for something brisk and ended up... somewhere else. "Something that can be prepared one-handed, I expect, as you've captured the other."

The little quip earned him a wide smile, Vax silently beaming rather than replying in words. Beautiful, modest and clever. Of course he was. And Vax might've said so, he might've said what it was he wanted, or tried to be witty in return. But there was no room in him left for words at all. He ached for more, the lust grabbing him roughly, and he couldn't have stopped himself if he tried.

Vax'ildan's fingers pushed up the chef's arm, greedily stroking all the way up the man's shoulder against his shirt, then to brace the back of his neck with the grip of one hand. He shifted and slid in a movement following the touch that should have, would have been awkward, if he wasn't an acrobat - he flowed up onto the surface of the kitchen counter on his knees, sending a few dishes clanking and tumbling to shatter as he went. He loomed somewhat over the other man now, as his free hand easily lifted the chef's glasses clear from his face, and he bent down to capture the softness of that plush mouth under his own. Gentle, but desperately urgent, Vax made to ply the chef apart and taste him in the kiss like a man starved for it.

It was probably a measure of his surprise, part of Ignis thought, that he didn't react to the shattering dishes. A man climbing onto the counter should have earned more of a reaction even than that, and taking his glasses as well... really, he should have stopped the whole thing as soon as that warm hand started up his arm. Should have stepped away, reestablished the impersonal (did either of them even know the other's name?), should have....

But of course, Ignis didn't do any of that. Instead, he marveled at the grace that could move a body from beside him to before and above him with, as far as he could tell, only a gentle brace to the back of Ignis's neck as an anchor. And he responded almost embarrassingly quickly to the mouth on his, moving to taste the other man in return as his own hand slid and found a resting-place on... yes, that was definitely a man's waist.

Warm, and willing, pliant and returning such touches, he was utterly delightful, deserving of the whisper-soft moan - if not for the protective restrictions of his armor, the other would have seen the full extent of Vax'ildan's bliss. And then their clothes were suddenly a hateful problem that needed fixing. Talented thieving fingers had no trouble in both holding one arm of the glasses and plucking open the first few of the chef's shirt buttons, making short work of...

Then the compulsion abruptly faded. The arousal itself pointedly didn't, but it wasn't the all-consuming craving it had just been. His body still agreed that this all felt like a wonderful idea, the sex. Vax's mind, however, woke to reason once more as if splashed with a bucket of cold water. What the fuck was he doing?!

He withdrew from the kiss, careful, but with a purposeful break of their mouths, the line of his body shifting back. "Holy...fucking... What am I doing?" He really didn't know if the question was for himself or the fellow he'd just attacked.

Thinking about anything other than how to get back to the sudden but shockingly welcome intimacy felt monumentally difficult, but Ignis was used to discipline and forced his mind into gear at the question. Whether or not it was actually addressed to him, the question itself was meaningful in one specific way: the other had not been in his right mind during the brief interlude. Had he been, there would be no need to ask what he was doing, he would already know.

It was, in all, less harmful than the delusions that had ended in Noct flinging Prompto - a dear friend - off a moving train. True, there was some little pain to Ignis himself, it was an old pain that could be crushed down and ignored quite easily. He'd known better, or should have, and gone ahead anyway. For reasons that would bear considering, however unimportant in practical terms they were likely to be.

Regretfully, he traced the other's arm just to reach the hand that yes, still had his shades, take them back, and slide them back on, covering his eyes and a portion of old scars once again. Thus re-armored, he attempted lightness. "Breaking dishes, climbing on my counter, and borrowing glasses, among other things."

All of which was awful behavior to begin with - but nothing compared to the real dick move perpetrated here. Vax actually stared at him for a beat, marveling at the relatively unfazed reaction. He might've chuckled, if he wasn't currently rattled.

Vax'ildan slowly extracted himself from the man's personal space, looking especially pale as he slid back down off of the counter. "I... Sorry doesn't begin to cover it," he tried feebly. "I don't know how it happened." He knew more or less what had happened, having seen others go at it all day, but still not the how of the thing. "Gods, but I am sorry. I'm not usually a raving sex maniac. I don't even know your fucking name," he admitted.

Not knowing what else to do to try and make it right, Vax started to collect in his hands the bits and shards of the dishware he'd broken in his...enthusiasm.

"No apologies required." Really, they were only a reminder of the various unrealities involved in the whole thing. "The last time I experienced someone being compelled to act against their actual will, a dear friend ended up flung off a moving train, captured, and tortured." And it had been, all things considered, the purest good fortune that they'd recovered Prompto alive if not precisely unharmed. Ignis paired the explanation with casually redoing the buttons on his shirt that had been... undone. More armor, returning to the straightforward (and empty) normal becoming easier and easier moment by moment.

"This is decidedly not that, my name is Ignis," and his head turned at the distinctive shower of clinks of ceramic bits being gathered, "and you'll drop those, please. I've a broom somewhere around here, and adding your blood to broken glass would only call for a mop as well."

Maybe he hadn't tried to kill Ignis, but still. Though now that Vax considered it, Ignis hadn't exactly tried to fend him off either.

"You're cool as a cucumber, aren't you Ignis?" He twisted a wry smile at the man in spite of it all, obliging to let the shards fall to the floor and clearing the counter of the other stray bits similarly. "...And a fine kisser, for what it's worth," he tried to make light of the spectacle, rather than letting the guilt of it weigh on him too heavily in mixed company. He could do Ignis that much, at least.

"Neither, in truth." Though the compliment, however little it meant as anything other than playing along, was secretly, stupidly warming. "I'm simply practical." Ignis shrugged slightly and moved to fetch the broom he'd mentioned, as well as some items to clean off the countertop in case food needed to rest there again. "I should have realized something was wrong from the start, given everything. In that light, it's far more appropriate I apologize to you. And, incidentally-"

Ignis called one of his daggers to the hand not gripping a broom as he passed the other man's presence, held it up, then dropped it back into the armory quickly enough to be demonstration, not threat. "I assure you that if I'd had any objections you would be feeling them in your spleen."

Enhanced senses warned Yasmeen of a distinct change in the air she breathed even before her path took her into the public areas of the hotel. Once it did, she could've done without her regular senses if it meant she didn't have to see another bare baby behind.

She'd have u-turned back to her quarters or headed straight out, but she and Raleigh had been up most of the night burning calories and she needed fuel. With luck, the kitchen itself wouldn't be decorated and she could spare her eyes before they developed an acute case of pink-blindness.

The blind man she'd heard called 'Ignis' was in the kitchen, much as she'd hoped. "Is there coffee that isn't pink?" she asked, approaching as she did so he could judge her location by the movement of her voice.

It was one of the pleasant things about the Inn, added to 'the sun actually rises' and 'no daemons so far', the general politeness of the residents. Most people had, Ignis thought, learned quickly to speak or make some kind of noise when approaching him. He preferred to ignore his deficiency as much as possible, and his current housemates - so to speak - respected that.

"I can't judge the color, but there is indeed coffee." Most likely it was dark enough to be nearly black even in a spoon, because in the absence of complaints Ignis made the kind of coffee he himself liked. Without waiting to be asked, he retrieved a mug (with the ease granted by several hours of rote memorization followed by six weeks of making this kitchen his territory), poured coffee into it, and offered it in the woman's direction.

Yasmeen moved forward and glanced suspiciously into the cup. "Not pink," she pronounced it and breathed an audible, if ironic sigh of relief. She took the mug from him with a brief twinge in her shoulder, probably from last night. But when she inhaled, it wasn't coffee she scented.

It was him.

The sharp pain in her shoulder subsided as she set the coffee down again and moved toward him single-mindedly. It had been too long since she'd been with someone who wasn't Raleigh, and he was irresistible. Why that should be, she didn't question, nor his desire for her, only slid a hand up his arm to let him know she was coming and pressed in close.

The hand sliding up his arm evoked none of the thrill he'd felt when Vax had done the same, none of the desire to continue, and when her body pressed against hiss all Ignis could think of was how to step away and explain her mistake.

Except he'd been leaning against the counter, and just moving would either bring her with him or risk dumping her on the floor. And on top of that... quite probably she was out of her senses the same way Vax had been. It would pass quickly enough, and he had no idea what happened if the bespelled one was thwarted.

So he kept still.

No sooner had she begun than she felt him stiffen beneath her hand, and not in the way she was accustomed to a man stiffening at her touch. Even so, her body continued toward his, pressed close and she inhaled along the line of his jaw. She didn't kiss his mouth but instead dragged her lips and tongue along that path--

And stopped. Dead. Released from whatever had possessed her. She shuddered violently at the thought that the bugs had somehow triggered a mating heat, and would have turned and fled had she not come fully aware of pressing her attentions on a man who wanted no part of her...no part of women, quite probably.

Quickly stepping back, she offered a sincere and trembling, "My apologies," and dug her claws into her own palms. "I would never...I should not have... It won't happen again."

He'd needed no apology from Vax, and indeed did not need one from this woman. Neither had been in their right minds, as neither would have looked twice in them. He was uninjured, thoroughly unharmed in fact, save for some little confirmation of self-discovery. Which was not harmful, however useless the knowledge that in at least his limited number of test cases he had no interest in women was likely to remain.

Still, this apology felt different, somehow, so rather than dismissing it, he simply replied, "Apology accepted. This sort of thing appears to be going around today." If two people had latched on to him, how much worse must it be for more appealing folk?

"It should not have happened," Yasmeen repeated, shaken still but rapidly recovering herself. She wouldn't soon forget that feeling of compulsion or the guilt of pushing herself on him. "I kidnapped my dearest friend to spare him marrying a woman for duty. Please know I regret, deeply, any distress that caused you."

Her palms were bleeding, she noticed when she lifted the coffee mug. It didn't matter. They'd heal.

"Distress? No." Not distress, exactly. It had been over too quickly for that, and he hadn't exactly realized his disinterest before. There was clearly a difference between lack of opportunity and lack of desire. As educational as Vax had been, in a different way.

A faint coppery scent he recognized as blood hit the air, and he frowned slightly before going for one of the first-aid kits he'd stashed around the room. Blood in a kitchen was always worrying, if only due to the possibility of contamination.

The tension in Yasmeen's shoulders relaxed enough for her to unclench her free hand. But what was he... ah, some kind of medical kit. It was unnecessary, but if he needed the moment to compose himself, she would hardly begrudge him after what she'd done.

"This has happened to you already today?" As conversation went, it was flawed, but she didn't chatter at the best of times and this was hardly that.

"Indeed, you're the second. The poor fellow before you was nearly as apologetic, after." 'Nearly' only because he hadn't actually sliced himself somehow, and the woman clearly had. Ignis offered the first-aid kit to her. "Would you wrap whatever's bleeding, please? My sense of smell isn't nearly good enough to clean only affected spots, I'd have to scrub the entire area to be sure."

"Perhaps he lacked the experience of being forced to satisfy the whim of someone he didn't desire," Yasmeen replied, for once unguarded in her response. He impressed her with his observational skill and his calm demeanor.

"In any event, she needn't worry about the bleeding. It's stopped already and I didn't drip anywhere but the coffee cup." Nevertheless, she took the kit from him and wiped the mug down with an alcohol pad that she hoped would denature the nanites in her blood.

"Perhaps so. Still, none of us are injured, and neither of the two of you was forced to continue the unwanted contact." There was no need, at present, to doubt her word about the blood, so Ignis just nodded. "Do you need more coffee, then?" If what she'd had had ended up bloodied.
