Day #333...Dreary

I didn't venture out today - because the sky looked worse than the picture above - dreary, white, with bare trees, melting piss stained snow, garbage on the streets, and a kind of dreariness that seeps into one's soul.
Otherwise known as February in New York.
Me: It's dreary. The sky looks white like a bad egg, and the trees are bare.
Mother: It's the same here.
ME: Not raining or anything, and cold.
Mother: Same here.
So February in Hilton Head has a lot in common with February in New York, without the piss-stained snow of course. Piss-stained because of dog-walkers. At least I hope its the dog walkers. Possibly cats, although they get embarrassed and like it to be hidden.

New York vs. The Corona Virus
I'm listening to the Governor's briefing on FB as I'm writing this. It aired earlier - I missed it. He describes the deployment of the vaccine, and how it is being distributed. (It gave me a headache. Complicated is an understatement. I won't even try to explain it to you.)
Now, they are discussing how they are handling the subways. And that they are slowly re-open the night time service of the subways. It's now closing at 2AM and opens at 4AM, as opposed to closing at 1 AM and opening at 5 AM.
They are trying to reopening concert, sports, and restaurant venues. So to support that they are changing it to 2-4 for the cleaning window - on Feb 22.
Although the virus can't necessarily be caught/transmitted via surfaces - it's still on surfaces. And to make people feel safe - cleaning helps.
They are also trying to get the police force for the subways and railroad to about 4000, right now they have 2500, an additional 500 takes it up to 3000.
[That I could follow.]
The Governor is also getting beaten up on the nursing homes (Mother pre-warned me on this one] - but seriously he's been beaten up on for the last..300 days. So I've lost interest. I honestly don't care. I know I should, but I'm exhausted, I can only care about so much. Anyhow - apparently NY had 34%, and is number 34 of all the States with high nursing home deaths. Since COVID prays on nursing homes - they vaccinated everyone in the nursing homes first. I'd provide his clarification but it's kind of like the vaccine information...it gave me a headache. Also it's repetitive and nothing we haven't listened to for the past 11 months now. I'd think the reporters would be bored of it by now. But no.
Oh, and the Governor wants to legalize marijuana. I have no issues with it.
It's a money-maker, it's not dangerous, and it's not as bad as alcohol or tobacco.
Family
Mother called - apparently Father has not slid backwards and is getting better. He can walk without help. He's back to where he was before Mother went into the hospital. And he was lucid today and okay. She told him he couldn't come home because of her, not him. She can't assist him at the moment. She goes to the doctor tomorrow.
The Vaccine
More people are getting it. I keep seeing FB posts. Most of my British fandom friends seem to have gotten it - now. They've gotten the Astrzenca - and the latest has not reported any side-effects. Outside of a sore arm.
She (Rahael) also said that they were very nice. Explained the efficiency of the vaccine against others. And, she's scared of needles (so am I) but he was very kind about it and she barely noticed.
I talked to mother about it - she told me from what she's read about NYC, I'm better off waiting. People who are high risk or most vulnerable are struggling to get vaccinated. A woman with sicle cell anemia had troubles getting it. And someone with cancer couldn't get it. The system is a maze and hard to get an appointment in.

Misc
I've been watching All Creatures Great and Small - I read the books as a kid. It's very good and comforting in its way. I'm tired of watching assholes, so watching shows that do not feature assholes.

Date: 2021-02-16 03:29 am (UTC)I read the books when I was kid way back in the 1970s. But I enjoyed them quite a bit. Remember them being favorites along with Richard Adams Watership Down. I was into any book about animals back then.
