149 Howls: Visitors

So, it's one of those weekends again.

Um... if there's anyone from home... I know it's a long shot, there never is, but if there is... I've missed you. So much.

Anyway...

For anyone else, I'll be either at the shop or in the garage.

[Ignore the bruised face. They're fading. She's alright. She's even smiling a bit.]

These weekends happen often?

[Mercy didn't miss much - and certainly not bruises on a young girl's face. Not a chance in the world.]

Couple times a year. People come in from all over.

Don't worry. You'll probably be back home at the end of the weekend.

Hey. You far? I'm about to grab some lunch. You look like you might be hungry.

So I hear. No one from my home, though. I think it's just me.

[Which isn't cool, honestly. She misses Dante and a small part of her misses Vergil, even if he did use her and mislead her. It's kind of hard to hate someone after they saved your life.]

Uh...really? I mean, okay sure since I have no money here. That's very nice of you.

I'm the only one from my home, too.

I always hope... [She's quiet for a moment.]

Anyway... yeah, definitely. Girl's gotta eat, right? It's nice not to eat alone.

Where are you? I can come get you.

Hope is a good thing to have. It keeps us going.

I'm...that's a good question.

[Kat turns the device to face her surroundings, spinning slowly in place. Her voice comes over the speaker again.] Recognize anything?

Sometimes it's a good thing to have sometimes it just...

[She shrugs.]

It's hard.

[She watches what the girl's sending her and nods.]

Yep, I do. I'm maybe ten minutes away. I'll head right over.

It's hard to hold onto. I know.

[She's been there a few times.]

Okay. I'm Kat, by the way.

Mercedes. But most people call me Mercy.

I'll be there in a couple of minutes, Kat.

Mercy. Okay. See you in a bit.

[She's just hoping this isn't a bad idea. She'll be waiting in front of a book store, hands in her pockets.]

Mercy saw Kat and flipped off her device, sticking it into her back pocket.]

Hey, Kat. Nice to meet you in person. Hungry?

[Kat looked up at Mercy, waving and smiling slightly.] A bit, yeah. This is really nice of you. Which I already said but it bears repeating.

[Mercy shrugged. She was being as low key as she could, not wanting to frighten the girl.]

My first day here a friend helped me out. Only fair to pass it along.

What do you want? Hot meal? Sub? There are a ton of little places around here. We can grab a bite or if you're more comfortable hanging out here we can get something to go and sit out by the fountain.

Is there anywhere I can get something vegetarian? I'm a bit picky. [Kat admits this a bit sheepishly. Her preferences come from her potions and what she uses in them. It's gross. Best to not ask.]

Absolutely. There's a little cafe, just down the road that does some great vegetarian food.

[She nods in that direction and starts walking.]

So, I hope the City didn't pull you from anything important. Looks like you might have been having a rough time.

[Yeah, she hadn't forgotten those bruises - not that she was one to push.]

Sounds good. [Kat walked beside Mercy, eyes traveling over the people and the buildings as they went. Her eyes darted towards Mercy for a minute, steps slowing a little.]

Had. It was a couple weeks ago. [A shrug, one shoulder raising a bit more than the other.] We had some problems back home with someone [some thing] trying to control everyone. It had to get messy before it was finished.

[And even then, she's not sure it's finished. Vergil was still alive and Kat worried he would be worse than Mundus.]

[Mercy nodded.]

I've been there. Sometimes things get messy and you just have to do the best you can.

[She stopped at a doorway.]

You doing okay, though?

[Kat goes from looking around to looking at Mercy, still smiling as she nods once.]

I'm fine. I promise. Thank you for your concern, though. I appreciate it.

Okay.

[Mercy nodded and gave her a smile.]

I just hate to see someone all bruised up, but if you're good... Let's eat.

[She held the door for her.]
