This post is not about The Coyote Road but about a young woman's blog about bringing up Charlie, a ten day old orphan that she rescued when his parents were both shot for killing sheep (in Wyoming). He's now probably about a year old--her blog has a six month lag--you can see Charlie growing from an adorable baby to a handsome young coyote. If you want to find out what Charlie is doing in "real time" you can subscribe to the daily email for $5 a month and get daily photos of Charlie and Eli the cat.

I have seen this -- sooooooo cute! Gramercy says he has enough adventure with his dog and that we do n't actually need a coyote.

Oh Please, Ellen, do not encourage her.

By the way, El showed me this blog, which is both unbearably cute and painful to look at, because in the back of my mind I'm pretty sure things are not going to work out well for Charlie.

I thought it was cute too. I did a lot of research for a story about the differences between coyotes and wolves once, though, and a coyote in the house makes me nervous.

Although coyotes and wolves share a lot of similarities, that have critical behaviorial differences, at least in the wild. Coyotes have done a much better job of adapting to man's encroachment on their environment, and coyotes are darned tricky and exceptionally efficient killers. I live in Grand Junction, on the edge of the Colorado National Monument, (http://birdpepperstudioarts.com/mixed_media.html -- the city in the background is GJ). People with dogs and cats who live near the park know that they can't leave their animals out at night unless the yard is VERY securely fenced. A single coyote can kill a much bigger German Shepherd or Rottweiler without a problem Cats, of course, are a single bite. Not only will they kill dogs, but they will trick them out of the yard by playing with them through the fence until the innocent (and stupid) dog digs under the fence or squeezes through a crack.

I love the website and her affection for the coyote. Things may work out, but I wouldn't trust him.

That's the cutest thing I've seen all weekend! AWW.

I love the Charlie-and-cat relationship.
